Chapter One: Little Surprises
Lilly Truscott stood in line at the cafeteria of her high school. As she was collecting food, piling it one by one on her red tray, she peered over a crowd of kids, all from different cliques, searching for one person only.
“Looking for someone?” asked the voice of 15-year-old Oliver Oken.
“Miley! Where is she, I am going to kill her!?” Lilly groaned. As she did, she nearly dropped half the contents on her tray.
“Whoa, easy with the food there woman!”
“You try balancing it!”
“What are you, stocking up for hibernation? Or graduation?”
“Shut up. I’m a teenage girl, I need food.”
“You may be a teenage girl, but you eat like a full-grown pig.”
“That was rude!”
“But it was true!”
“Oliver!”
“What?! Do you know it is unhealthy to eat so much? Imagine what it could do to your thighs! And let’s not even get on to the subject of that booty!”
“Who cares, I’ll burn it all off at football.”
“Now that is asking an impossible task of the football.”
“I’m not eating that much!”
“Sure! I just hope you find a way to get that all out of your body before it digests. I suggest bingeing and purging.”
“No thanks. I tried it already.” Oliver’s face looked shocked, and Lilly knew it would shut him up.
“Look, all I’m saying is, no guy is going to want to date you once he finds out you’re going to eat the entire contents of his fridge.”
“Yes, but you will always love me.” Oliver blushed at this, but Lilly was too preoccupied with grabbing a jelly donut to notice.
“I hate to interrupt your little love fest, but I have the best news!” Miley popped (whoops, almost wrote pooped there) out of nowhere.
Lilly almost dropped her tray again. “Crap, Miley! You scared me!”
Miley dragged her from the lunch line. “Let’s go find a table and I’ll tell you the great news.”
She started peering at tables as though she were shopping for a TV, looking at three major aspects (the features: who sat there, the location: its was never good to sit in the middle of the cafeteria, nor was it good to sit in the corners, and the size: it was always best to sit near a lot of people, which usually meant a bigger table, because it made you look like you actually had friends). Finally, they found a table occupied with many random people they barely knew.
“Okay, sit down! You’ll faint when I tell you this!” Miley looked hyper, and she was practically bouncing up and down in her seat. Lilly and Oliver rolled their eyes simultaneously.
“No, I’m serious, it’s so exciting – “
“Get to the point,” Lilly said. Oliver nodded in agreement.
“Guess what just happened to Hannah?” Miley asked.
“She jumped off a bridge?” Lilly said, annoyed that Miley was taking so long, depriving her of food.
“No. Not even close actually. You’re looking at Hannah Montana, proud new star of her own reality show!” Miley threw her hands up in the air. “Is that cool or what?”
“Miley, are you crazy?” Lilly whispered.
“Yeah, seriously. Do you want the whole world to know your secret?” Oliver added.
“Look, guys. The contract says they won’t turn on the cameras until I’m ready. That means I can dress up as Hannah Montana and do all the regular things, and they won’t bug me as Miley. Heck, they don’t even know I’m Miley!”
“What about us?” Lilly asked. “What if we happen to come over to your house, and the cameras catch us as Lilly and Oliver?”
“So you’ll just have to wear your costumes every time you come around. Besides, most of the shooting will be at premieres, concerts, or in the recording studio. They’re interested in Hannah’s life, not Miley’s. They’re not so concerned about what Hannah does at home. They say they want this show to be different. All other shows are about the drama that goes on at home. They want this show to be about Hannah’s life in the public. Something new and fresh,” Miley declared.
“This is never going to work,” Lilly said. “It’s hard enough balancing your double life now. Imagine what it’s going to be like when the cameras are rolling.”
“Yeah, and what if you choke on screen and say something wrong?” Oliver demanded.
“Look, I don’t get nervous. Everything will be fine. I’ve had plenty of experience acting. Remember the zombie stuff? And that film?”
“That’s because there was a script. You didn't have to improvise, you actually had lines that you were supposed to say,” Lilly argued.
Miley sighed at her friends.
“Guys, trust me. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. Pop Star Exposed: The Real Life of Hannah Montana is going to be a huge hit! Besides, I already signed the contract. Now there's no going back.”
Lilly and Oliver gaped at Miley.
“You’re crazy,” Lilly said. Yes, it was a rude thing to say, but at the moment, it was completely true. She had a freaking double life. It was hard enough trying to balance what with school and concerts and such. Now she had to add cameras and people following her too.
Sometimes, Lilly thought, Miley just didn't think before she did things.
“Say what you want, but one day you’ll thank me for this,” Miley declared, poking her straw through the hole of the orange juice carton and taking a long sip. "This show is going to be the best freaking thing ever!"
AN: There, a new story. I probably shouldn't have started this, because I've got 4 other stories that are incomplete, and its kinda crappy. I wrote most of this a while back, though, so I decided to post it. I can't promise anything, because I'm busy with the other stories. I hope I'll be able to finish it eventually, though, although I'm not entirely sure about the plot line. I'm thinking of making Jake appear in this story, just to cause some drama. Hmm, should I be so evil?
