Tric.
Disclaimer: I sadly do not own the Jonas brothers or anyone you find familiar. But anyone new to you is my own character.
Tric is an all girl band of 4 sisters, Hayden (21), Tara (19), and Peyton and Melody (who are fraternal twins and 16). When they’re put on tour with the Jonas Brothers, things could get interesting.
Chapter One: Come Together
“What I like about you, that’s what I like about you,” Peyton Taylor’s Janis Joplin-esque voice filled the recording studio as the song ended.
“Girls, that was great,” Max Crawford’s voice filled the studio and the four girls behind the glass looked up to see their manager smiling at them, “I’ve got some news.”
“Do share,” Tara Taylor said, blinking her gray eyes as her voice sounded bored.
“We got you a tour.”
“WHAT?!” Peyton and her twin, Melody, shrieked at the same time, “SERIOUSLY?!”
Max grinned, “Seriously! You’re touring with someone who should make you happy,Melly,”
“Who? Who?” Faith’s bright blue eyes lit up.
“The Jonas Brothers.”
Melody’s face broke into a wide smile and Hayden, the eldest in the group and the second eldest in the family, said, “Isn’t one of them like, my age?”
“And aren’t you engaged, Hayden?” Tara asked, raising her dark eyebrows.
“Technicality.” Hayden waved her hand.
“I don’t think Shay would be too happy to hear you referring to your devotion to each other as a technicality,” Peyton said, not looking up from her guitar.
“Oh, be quiet, Pey.” Hayden said, rolling her blue eyes.
“So girls, is that all good?”
“YES!” Melody practically shrieked.
“Thanks, Uncle Max,” Peyton called over the PA system. Max wasn’t actually their uncle, but he had been a friend of the girls' mother, and he told them to just call him ‘Uncle Max’ or just ‘Max’, because ‘Mr. Crawford’ was his father.
“You’re welcome.” Max smiled, “I already called Evan to get her to run it past your dad, and if everything goes well, you’ll be getting onto the bus tomorrow morning.”
Tara snorted, “Dad’s so not gonna go for this.”
“Probably not,” Peyton agreed.
Melody looked as though she was going to burst into tears. She loved the Jonas Brothers and touring with them was a like a dream for her.
“He’ll let us go though,” Hayden said, “He has to. This is going to be a huge boost for our careers,” She said seriously.
“Don’t worry ladies, if your father doesn’t approve, I’ll try to convince him.” Max grinned.
“All right, Uncle Max, we’re trusting you,” Peyton said before putting down her guitar and walking towards the door, her sisters following her.
“No.”
“But, Dad,”
“I said, no, Peyton. You’re not going on tour for six months.” Michael Taylor said in a stern voice. Obviously all his years as a Marine had worked well towards him not going against his will, on anything.
“Daddy, please,” Melody pleaded, her blue eyes wide, “This would be amazing for the band and us, it would teach us responsibility and—”
“Melody, I already said no to your sister, what makes you think I’m going to say yes to you?” Michael asked.
“Dad, they’re both right,” Tara piped up, “It would teach them responsibility, and Hayden would be looking after us.”
“Yeah, Dad, I’ll take good care of them, make sure they don’t get into trouble,” Hayden said, “And we’ll call home every day. Promise.”
“Girls,”
“Please, Daddy,” Peyton pleaded. This caught Michael’s attention, because Peyton rarely called him Daddy and she was always the tougher of the twins.
“Girls,” Michael sounded as though he was going to say no again, when 23-year-old Evan intervened, “Dad, I think it might be a good idea.”
Michael looked expectantly at Evan, who continued, “It’s like when you sent me to boarding school when I was sixteen, it’ll be a really good growing experience for the girls, especially Peyton and Melody.”
“Yeah!!” The twins exclaimed.
“Please, Dad,” Hayden said, “Tara and I are old enough to go alone, but there really isn’t much of a band without the lead singer and the bass player.”
Michael let out a low sigh and ran a hand through his steely gray hair, “No drinking, no drugs, no boys, no going anywhere by yourselves and no going anywhere without your phone. Are we clear?”
The four younger girls exchanged looks before swamping their father with hugs.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!!” The four exclaimed.
Peyton broke away from the group hug and then threw her arms around Evan, “Have I ever told you that you happen to rock?”
Evan chuckled, and then shook her head, “Suck up.”
“Where do you think I got it from?” Peyton said in an undertone, “It’s a “growing experience”?”
Evan laughed, “You better get me an amazing present every place you go to make up for that.”
Peyton wrapped her arms around her sister and mumbled into her shoulder, “I promise.”
“Which top do you like better?” Melody asked, holding up a baby blue empire-waist shirt and a pink baby doll shirt.
“The pink,” Peyton replied.
“Why?” Melody asked.
“Because the blue one’s mine,” Peyton said, grabbing the blue top from her sister’s hands and putting it in her own suitcase.
“Oh, aha, right.” Melody grinned.
“Are you two ready to go?”
“Go where?” Peyton asked, wrinkling her nose as Evan entered the room.
“Uncle Max didn’t tell you?”
“Didn’t tell us what?” Melody asked.
“That you’re going to the mall tonight to meet the boys?” Evan said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“We get to meet them?” Melody said breathlessly.
“Yeah, now hurry up, Tara looks like she’s going to flip if she doesn’t get away from Dad.” Evan laughed, leaving the room.
“Wow, we’re meeting them.”
“Mel, oh my god, we’re going on tour with them. Are you going to be this much of a fan girl when we meet them?” Peyton asked, pulling a brush through her hair.
“I am not a fan girl.” Melody said in an indignant tone.
“Uh-huh, right…” Peyton said, shaking her head.
“I don’t appreciate the sarcasm, Peyton.”
“Oh, Melly, I’m sorry,” Peyton said, patting her sister’s arm as she walked out of the room.
Melody wrinkled her eyebrows, and then called after Peyton’s retreating back, “I don’t believe you!!”
“Now, boys, be on your best behavior, okay?”
Kevin, Nick and Joe Jonas rolled their eyes in unison before saying, “Yes, Mom.”
Denise Jonas smiled at them before saying, “Oh, that must be them!”
Up ahead, in the food court, sat a group of five girls. The one who seemed to be the oldest, a tall, thin, blonde, seemed to be advising the other four what to do. One who had jet-black hair was leaning on the table, snapping her gum and looking extremely bored. The girl to her right was a blonde and she seemed to be mesmerized by her shoes. The last two seemed almost identical, almost like twins, except one had dark brown hair and the other had light blonde hair. Both were whispering and they seemed to be arguing about something.
When the brother’s drew closer, the blonde turned around and smiled, walked towards them and shook Mrs. Jonas’ hand.
“Hi, I’m Evan. I know you were expecting our father, but something came up, so I’m here instead.” She said in a sunny voice, smiling brightly.
“Oh, that’s all right, I’m Denise Jonas and these are the boys, of course, Kevin, Joe and Nick, and their younger brother, Frankie.”
“Nice to meet you all.” Joe could tell that this Evan was a regular ray of sunshine, “Well, this is the band, Hayden’s right there,” She pointed to the older of the two remaining blondes, “And beside her is Tara,” The dark-haired girl who still looked bored, “And the twins… Peyton and Melody, could you pay attention?”
The brunette snapped her attention away from the blonde and said, “Oh, sorry, Evan, I didn’t realize you stopped. We were just talking about what the point of a Double Big Mac is,”
“Peyton,” The blonde, Melody, Joe assumed, groaned, shaking her head, while the Jonas brothers laughed a little.
Tara shook her head, laughing, “Wow, kid, you know how to break the ice,”
“I’m just that good,” Peyton nodded, tucking a strand of dark hair behind her ear.
Evan shook her head, “Take that as Peyton's ‘hi, nice to meet you’,” She advised, “Oh, and this is Max Crawford, the girls’ manager.”
“Hi, Uncle Max!” Melody and Peyton called at the same time.
“Hey girls,” The man named Max greeted smiling at them, “Well, Evan, Mrs. Jonas, if it’s all right with you, I think we should get the rules down and then share them with the kids when we’re done. But in the mean time, how about they go browsing and get to know each other a little better?”
“Oh, Uncle Max, you don’t have to ask us to go shopping!!” Tara exclaimed, pulling Peyton off the chair she was sitting in.
“Be careful and keep your phones on,” Evan instructed.
“Yes, Mother,” Hayden said, rolling her eyes.
Tara walked past the brothers first and winked at Kevin, the oldest, and she could’ve sworn she made him blush.
“Peyton and Tara, behave yourselves!!” Hannah called.
“So…” Kevin said as the eight kids (all four girls, Kevin, Joe and Nick, and Frankie), walked down the mall, which was practically empty as it was 10:30 on a weeknight. The girls had driven 2 1/2 hours to get far away from Astoria, but they were still in a small town.
“Yeah, this is nice…” Hayden said lamely.
“And awkward.” Peyton and Tara said together, after which, they exchanged grins.
“Do they do that a lot?” Nick asked quietly.
Melody felt all the air in her being get caught up in her throat as the second youngest Jonas talked to her, and then she nodded, “Oh, yeah, Peyton and Tara are either the best of friends, or the worst of enemies.”
“That sounds fun,” Nick said.
“Oh, it is, for the most part. But when they fight, it is so not fun.” Melody said seriously.
Nick grinned and said, “How do you mean?”
“It’s like a World War struck our house when those two aren’t getting along,” Melody said shaking her head, “I pray that you don’t ever have to experience one while we’re on tour. You might have to get therapy.”
“She’s telling the truth,” Hayden said, nodding as she fell back beside them, “It’s actually scary when they fight.”
Nick chuckled and was going to say something when Tara suddenly piped up, “Hey, Hayden, look at that dress,” She and Peyton came back and pulled Hayden by her wrists over to a dress shop that had a beautiful wedding dress in the front window.
“You could wear it to the wedding!!” Peyton exclaimed, her blue eyes wide.
“Guys, I don’t know if it’s even going to happen,” Hayden reminded them.
“Hayden, Shay asked you to marry him and you said yes, what else could you possibly have meant by that?” Peyton asked, raising her eyebrows.
Melody saw the surprise ripple through the Jonas’ as Peyton said this, and Kevin said, “You’re engaged? How old are you?”
Hayden sighed, her blonde bangs puffing up as she did so, “Yep. It’s no big deal.” She paused, “And don’t you know anything? You should never ask how old a lady is!”
“She’s 21,” Tara said, smiling faintly.
“Tara!” Hayden exclaimed.
Tara, Peyton and Melody laughed along with the Jonas brothers, while Hayden pouted.
The silence among them was suddenly broken when the loud noise of ‘Stayin’ Alive’ by the Bee Gees filled the air.
“Oops,” Peyton smiled sheepishly, pulling her cell phone out, “Hello?” She turned away from them and was talking.
“Bet you five bucks that’s Sarge checking up on us,” Tara said, looking at Hayden and Melody.
“Oh, we all know it is,” Melody said, “Why bother wasting your money?”
“Sarge?” Joe repeated, looking a little confused.
“Daddy dearest,” Tara said bitterly.
“Hey, guys, I have to go pick something up, I’ll be back though.” Peyton assured them when she returned.
“You should take someone with you,” Hayden sang out, “Where are you going?”
“Book store,” Peyton said lamely, obviously not wanting a chaperone.
Joe cleared his throat before saying, “I can go,”
Peyton looked surprised and then shrugged, ignoring the teasing look Tara was giving her and then awkwardly walking down the length of the mall with Joe, looking for a book store.
Peyton didn’t say very much at first, Joe didn't talk much either, but Peyton was the one to break the ice, “I like your shoes.”
“What?” Joe was confused.
“Your shoes? I like them,” She said, as if it was completely normal.
Joe looked down at his beat-up black-and-white checked Converse and smiled a little, “Thanks.” He looked at hers, which were hot pink and also Converse, “Yours are pretty nice too.”
Peyton shook her head, “They’re not mine, they’re Melody’s. It’s payback for her borrowing my shirt without asking.”
“Nice,” Joe said, grinning, “Do you and your sisters get along well?”
Peyton shrugged, “For the most part. I get along with Melody and Tara, and Evan, but Hayden and I fight more, I guess.”
“Any reason why?” Joe asked.
“She's really spoiled and could probably get away with anything she wants to. While, I, on the other hand, get in trouble for everything at home.” Peyton said, shrugging, “Do you and your brothers get along?”
Joe nodded, “More or less. We fight but nothing huge.”
“I always wanted a brother,” Peyton sighed.
“You don’t have any?”
Peyton shook her head, “Nope, five girls, one house, lots of fun,” She rolled her eyes.
“Wow, that must be… interesting.” Joe said carefully.
“That’s definitely one way of putting it,” Peyton nodded as they walked into the book store, Peyton walked up to the counter and said, “Hi, I’m Peyton Taylor, I’m here to pick up a book for—”
“Sargent Taylor, of course. He just called in and made sure we still had it,” The woman said kindly, “Here you are, dear, it’s all paid for and everything.”
“Thank you,” Peyton smiled and took the bag from the woman, then she looked at Joe, “I don’t feel like going back to the group.”
“Me neither,” Joe agreed, “Wanna get an ice cream?”
Peyton grinned, “Sounds good.”
“Peyton and Joe,” Tara said, shaking her head, “Cute.”
“Oh please, Tara. You know Peyton won’t go for that,” Melody said in an undertone, making sure Nick didn’t hear them.
“How do you know?” Tara said, “She’s been single ever since—”
Melody silenced her with a look and said, “Prue, don’t force her or anything, okay?”
Tara sighed, finding it hard to believe at that moment, that she was the older sibling. “Fine."
“So are you guys from around here?” Kevin asked, suddenly beside them.
“We’re from Astoria,” Melody replied as she and Nick walked ahead of the group.
“Is that from around here?” Kevin asked, grinning a little.
“Almost three hours away,” Tara said, “Believe me, Evan had a fun time when she had to drive the four of us out here.” She added in an undertone, “Hayden complained the whole time and the twins couldn’t decide on a radio station.”
“What about you?” Kevin asked grinning.
“I cannot wait to move out and get my own car,” Tara grinned.
“Can I ask why you call your dad Sargent?” Joe asked as he and Peyton sat opposite one another in front of the Dairy Queen.
“Marine Corps,” Peyton replied, “He was a sargent, so that’s what my sisters and I call him when we talk about him.”
“That makes sense,” Joe nodded.
Peyton nodded when her cell phone started ringing, playing 'Here Comes the Sun'
“Hi, Mel… okay, we’ll be there.” She hung up the phone and said, “My uncle, Evan and your mom are ready to see us,” She smiled at him as they walked towards the food court, “Thanks for the ice cream.”
“Okay, we’ve come up with the rules, all right?” Max looked at the group, “Hayden and Kevin are in charge, what they say, goes, curfew of 11:00, every night, unless you ask permission, don’t ever go anywhere by yourself, girls, you’re required to call Sarge once a day, boys, at least once a week. No drinking, no drugs, go nowhere without your cell phones. Are we all clear?”
“Yes, sir,” The boys said, and the girls nodded.
This was going to be interesting.
