SA: After abandoning a lot of my other stories, I give you, MY FIRST TWILIGHT FANFICTION!!
Jinx: An organized rebellion against the Volturi?
SA: Yes! I thought it would be a great idea! Trust me, I’m really liking this fic and the characters so far. Though I know I won’t be able to fully finish it until I read “Breaking Dawn.” (Hopefully nothing in here will be invalidated. I’m keeping as far away from Forks, WA as I can here. As a result, this story takes place in Minnesota. (YES!!)) Hey Eiji! Do the disclaimer!!
Eiji: Me? Okay. Silver Affection doesn’t own Twilight. But she does own these characters, so please don’t steal them!
SA: (Squeals) Banana Fish RULES!! I’m on volume 3 and I’m in love with it already! So Ei-chan, you’re up next!!
Eiji: Me?
Moonrise
By: Silver Affection
Prologue
A Moonless Night
Cloaked by the encroaching moonless night, three shadowed figures swept across the forest floor, unnoticed by all except the stars, the trees, and the new moon.
“Ester, how much longer do we hafta travel?” the blond-haired teenage boy muttered. “They’re not following us anymore, I can smell it.”
The younger teenager, also male, spoke up. “And we haven’t fed for hours! There aren’t any animals in these woods to feed on either…”
The oldest member of the group, a long red-haired female, sighed, turning to her younger companions. “You heard what father said. We must get to the Underground Coven and relay his dying message.” She fingered the slip of paper in her hands that none of them had looked at ever since they had left their home.
“So then why are we out in the middle of nowhere instead of in Duluth or St. Paul?” the youngest said. “Why would such a huge organization of our kind be hidden this deep in the forest?”
“Because they don’t want the Volturi to find them,” the older teenage boy snorted.
“Ashton, this is serious,” Ester snapped. “If the Volturi find us now, they will kill us. We have to get to the Underground Coven as fast as we can. It’s our only hope for survival now.”
Ashton, the older boy with scruffy blond hair and gorgeous green eyes who looked like he could be a teenage movie star, sighed angrily. “I hate those Volturi bastards. They killed him…!”
“I know, I know,” Ester whispered sadly. “But losing our cool about it isn’t going to help any. We have to remember what father would have wanted. Killing, especially for revenge, is wrong. We feed on animals only to survive, and we will not desire revenge on the Volturi because of this, have I made myself clear? The best thing we can do is try and help stop them so that their reign of terror can be abolished forever.”
“You’re not Anne, Ester,” the younger teen shook his head sadly.
Ester sighed. “I know, Julian. But I have to try to at least save the two of you. If I can’t, then I feel like I’ve failed our parents and their kindness and ideals.”
Ashton sighed. “I understand how you feel, Ester. But there is one thing I’d like to know. What did father do to piss off the Volturi so much?”
“It has to do with this ‘Underground Coven’,” Julian responded. “There’s no other reason they would hate father so much. He never revealed our truth to the humans.”
Ester nodded. “I agree.”
At that moment, Ashton froze. “I can smell them closing in,” he reported.
Julian looked worried. “What if they don’t believe us?”
Ester got in front of her two younger brothers as a sleek, haunting female with long black hair emerged from the trees, flanked by a large muscular man with short blonde hair. There was nothing human about them. Yes, these were the denizens of the night. The bloodsuckers. What humans called vampires.
“State your business. This is our coven’s turf,” the female said aggressively.
“We are here on the behalf of Arlen Cole,” Ester spoke up. “We are his adopted children and what is left of his coven. We bring a message for the Underground Coven from him.”
The blond stepped in upon seemingly recognizing them. “Yes! Roanoke has been expecting you. As long as you cooperate, none of you will be harmed. I am sure that the Underground Coven would readily accept the children of Arlen.” He then bowed unexpectedly. “Thank you for coming to us.”
The woman slowly relaxed slightly, although not quite letting her guard down. “Fine. Follow us. We will take you to Roanoke and the heart of the Underground Coven’s operations. But if you turn out to be spies for the Volturi, I will not hesitate to kill you where you stand.”
Ester bowed her head in respect. “Thank you. We will cooperate.”
The blond gave her a nod of his head and then turned to dart off into the trees.
Ester’s group followed the two newcomers to the banks of one of the many lakes in Minnesota. The lake was illuminated by the starlight, but no moon shone.
