Broken

Disclaimer- The characters belong to Stephenie Meyer, not me!

A/N- AU Human fanfic. The angst is mostly Bella. Carlisle and Esme are parents to Alice only, everybody else has their own parents. Canon couples, except for Jacob/Angela because my dorky obsession in Twilight is Jake/Angie! Jake is more of a brother to Bella in this fanfic, anyway, he’s never had romantic feelings towards her.

Just so you know, I just can't see the actors from the movie playing the characters in my AH/AU fanfics. That just creeps me out- Real Person fanfic grosses me out, too. My characterization of Stephenie Meyer's characters look different in description, so keep that in mind, too.

Bella's a graduate student in literature and Edward is a pediatric cardiologist- I stole the idea for him from newfoundlove's A Heart's Savior, which is a fantastic Twilight Fanfic, so please check it out and leave her some love in the reviews! I finally figured out how to make single line breaks- here's a hint, Elektra- read the directions!

Warning- this fanfic deals with severe child abuse and has some lemons in it, later on, not in this part. There are some dark themes dealt with in this one. This was personal therapy for me. This is the first time I’ve posted fanfic on . Hope you enjoy, no flames, please.

BPOV

“Dad?” I asked, entering the house, holding a bag full of groceries.

“Hi, Bells!” Charlie yelled. He was in front of the TV, again.

“Hi,” I said, dropping my keys on the kitchen counter, setting down the groceries. “I’m making lunch.”

“Aw, honey, you don’t have to,” he said.

“But, I want to,” I said.

“How’s that roommate of yours, Alice?”

“She’s great,” I said. “She’s getting pretty serious with Jasper. They both say hi.”

“Good!” he cried. I got out the saucepan to brown the ground beef.

“Yes, they’re talking about moving in together,” I said. “Maybe more.”

“Does that mean you’ll be looking for a new roommate?” he asked.

“Eventually,” I said.

“If you ever need help-”

“Dad, forget it,” I said. “I’m not taking another cent from you.” Medical insurance was horrible enough- even Charlie had a hard time getting it, now.

“Honey,” he said. I heard him stand up. I rubbed the lump on my forearm. Charlie’s hand found my shoulder.

Years had passed. Years. And I was still a brimming mess, living in it.

“Bella, you’re my daughter. You should have come here the day Renée died,” he said. “I should have demanded it.”

“It’s the past,” I said.

“Bella, it’s not the past,” he said. “I feel as much responsible as anybody else. I love you. I’m sorry about what happened. I don’t think I can say it enough, honey.” His arms enveloped me.
