RHS Chapter 1: Stolen
Author's notes: AU fic. Not an original plot, and lots of Eiji torture. Read at your own risk! Don't expect an intelligent fic too...sigh
Pairing: FujixEiji
The scene that greeted Momoshiro shocked him and he remained frozen even as his team mates were already safely onboard.
“Drive off now!” Fuji hissed at the driver. His blue eyes were fully opened, revealing the fear, anxiety and worry within. “Go to Inui’s place. QUICK!”
“Hai!” Stepping hard on his accelerator, the spiky haired man sped off into the darkness. There was no time to lose, thought the man as he stole a few glances into his rear mirror. They need help, fast.
Damn it, why won’t the blood stop?! Fuji pressed harder on his partner’s chest, but it was useless. The redhead’s face was losing colour rapidly.
“Hang on, Eiji, please, hang on!” Fuji pulled his friend closer towards himself and a chill ran down his spine as his other hand came into contact with Eiji’s cold and clammy skin.
“Syuusu…” Eiji shivered and coughed as he tried to reassure Fuji, bt he barely managed to utter Fuji’s name before he slipped into unconsciousness.
“Eiji!? Wake up, don’t sleep! Momo, driver faster!”
“Damn, someone is following us!” Momoshiro quickly swerved to his left in an attempt to shake off the pursuers.
Fuji turned and squinted through the car’s back glass. It’s them again. Why can’t they just let them off, especially after what they did to Eiji?
“Lose them, Momo. Eiji can’t wait any longer.” The desperation in Fuji’s voice was apparent. Momoshiro acknowledged the request with a grunt. His attention was now solely on out-manoeuvring the other car and that was his speciality.
Sirens pierced through the night streets as the two cars engaged in a fierce chase. Fuji held Eiji tighter to give him as much warmth as he could. The blood was soaking through his shirt and Fuji tried to ignore the horrible feeling of the warm liquid on his hand as he tried to push harder against the wound to stop the bleeding.
Fuji closed his eyes to calm his raging fears of losing Eiji. If only Eiji didn’t jump over to shield him…If only he listened to Eiji and defied Papa. If only he could choose one more time…
Three months ago…
“The missing jewellery piece is estimated to be worth one million dollars. The police are stumped by the method of theft. Tight security measures were put in place but these measures did not work at all, according to an unnamed source….”
Inui pushed his glasses up and then folded the papers neatly before placing it on the table.
“Well?” A smooth voice that Inui disliked immensely sounded behind him.
“Ken-san, what do you mean by ‘well’?”
The man smirked as he reached for the papers. “It was a good job, wasn’t it? I heard that you helped in the planning.”
“Did I? My job is purely medical in nature.”
“I’m glad you know your place in this organization, Inui-san.” Ken’s face still had the smirk on it, but the threat was apparent. “Not that I am displeased with a job well done, though. Fuji and Kikumaru work well together, don’t you think?”
“Yes.”
“Maybe they work too well together. I always found their closeness a little, how would I phrase it, uncomfortable.”
“They grew up together and are close friends.”
“Close friends don’t look each other in the eye like that.”
That statement made Inui jump. So Ken already knew their relationship, so why was he still asking?
Ken laughed at Inui’s uncomfortable expression. “Don’t worry, I was just making some casual comments. It’s my duty as a leader to know my members well. Papa always tells us that, you know.”
“What do you want from me, Ken-san?”
“Nothing, nothing at all. You think too much, Inui-san. I was just having a friendly chat with you.” The man placed the papers back on the table and walked away.
Inui sighed when he made sure the man was gone. Ken was trouble. He was made the leader of their team when their previous leader failed in their assignment and was caught by the police. It was difficult working with their new leader. He seemed to have an unusual interest in Fuji and when spurned, the fondness turned into spite. Yet, Ken did not dare to do anything to the genius. Fuji was the most valued member in the team, and possibly one of the best in their organization. There was no way a shrewd man like Ken would risk losing Papa’s favour by driving away one of the best members.
The team had always been close prior to Ken’s arrival. Fuji, Eiji, Momoshiro and Inui came from the same orphanage and were recruited into RHS when they were barely five years old. They only met Papa twice; once when they were recruited, and once when their leader was arrested four months ago.
Their previous leader was also from the same orphanage, and his arrest and death came as a shock to the entire team. Papa had looked grieved when he told them the news, but everyone knew why their friend and leader died. Perhaps it was that point in time when they realized that RHS wasn’t what they thought it was.
“Inui! Thinking about some odd concoction again?”
The warm greeting jolted Inui out from his thoughts. He looked up and saw Fuji and Eiji smiling at him.
“Ah, welcome back. Your success is advertised in today’s papers.” Inui greeted them both and passed them the newspapers.
“Oh, that’s fast!” Eiji took the papers from him and eagerly flipped the papers. He quickly found what he wanted. “Hehe, those idiots are stumped, aren’t they?”
Fuji smiled at his friends. “They are no match for our technology and charms. How easily we got the job for the security installations.”
“Feeding the cameras with pre-recording images as we took the centre piece of the room. That invention was a stroke of genius, Syuusuke.” The redhead grinned as he recalled their strategy.
“We wouldn’t have done it without you manoeuvring through that crazy network of infra-red traps. I would have preferred to hack into the system to disable that, but since you prefer some exercise, I left it on. Still, Inui was the one who came up with this idea.” Fuji’s eyes opened a little more to express his gratitude. “Thanks, Inui.”
“These are the times when data comes in useful. I spent years researching the methods of security installations and 86 percent of the time…”
Eiji covered his ears and pouted. “No more data please, Inui. I have already heard this a hundred times!”
Fuji chuckled at Inui’s look of displeasure but his face turned serious. “Did Ken say anything?”
Inui turned to the brown haired man. “He said good job, but I wonder if he meant it.”
“He can’t wait for us to fail, but I can’t see how he will benefit if his team screws up.” Fuji let out a sigh. It was partly his fault for offending the leader, but Fuji couldn’t tolerate his advances and leering looks. Ken didn’t say anything outright, but he retaliated with sneaky moves like taking up difficult jobs from the Headquarters and assigning them to Fuji and Eiji.
“Enough about him. Here are your drinks for these two weeks.” Inui pointed to fourteen bottles of coloured liquid to the side. “Make sure you drink them to maintain your stamina and body condition.”
“Could you try improve on the taste? It still tastes yucky.” Eiji took one of them and then shook it hard.
“What are you doing, Eiji?” Inui raised his brows at the action.
“Checking your seals. Some of the bottles you gave me the other time seemed to be leaking a little at the top. Did you use inferior seals or something? You pocketed the money?!”
“Don’t be ridiculous.” Inui was slightly offended at the accusation, not so much on the money, but on the seals. It was impossible for the seals to be leaking as he was always meticulous when sealing their bottles of energy drinks. Perhaps it was an accident?
“Just joking, don’t be angry,” laughed the redhead as he stuck out his tongue like a child. “Syuusuke, let’s go. I have a feeling that Inui will attack me if I stay any longer.”
Fuji chuckled again as he pulled his chair and stood up and left with Eiji.
Inui watched the pair leave but a worry was forming at the back of his mind. Eiji’s words still bothered him and Inui felt a need to investigate.
