Author's note: This is pretty much a redo of my story "Telling Charlie". I didn't really like that one, and a lot of others didn't really like it either, so I decided to rewrite it. I hope you like this one!!
READ + REVIEW!
Bella glowered at the sky. “I’ll get you home.” I brushed the tiny beads of water from her warm cheeks.
“Rain’s not the problem,” she grumbled and glanced at me. “It just means it’s time to go do something that will be very unpleasant and possibly even highly dangerous.” I stared at her, my eyes wide with alarm. “It’s a good thing you’re bulletproof.” She sighed. “I’m going to need that ring. It’s time to tell Charlie.”
I laughed, utterly amused by her serious expression. “Highly dangerous,” I agreed, still laughing. I reached into the pocket of my jeans, smiling as my fingers ran along the diamond encrusted ring. “But at least there’s no need for a side trip.” I took her hand and slid her ring into place on the third finger of her left hand, where it would stay—conceivably for the rest of eternity.
For the first time, she smiled at the sight of the ring. She stretched out her arm and examined her hand. “It does look nice, doesn’t it?”
“It looks much better than nice,” I breathed, wrapping my arms around her middle. “It looks wonderful.” She turned her head and pressed her lips to mine and for once, I didn’t resist. I kissed her back. Kissed her the way she deserved to be kissed. Passionately, lovingly, fervently. I ran my tongue along her bottom lip, smiling as she eagerly opened her mouth allowing me to slip in. I traced every inch of her mouth. God, she tasted so good. My hands slid down to the small of her back, pulling her closer to me. Her fingers knotted in my untidy hair.
She broke the kiss and gasped for air. “Sorry,” I mumbled. “Forgot you still have human limitations.” I smiled teasingly and she smacked my chest lightly.
“Oh shut up,” she growled. “You won’t be able to say that for much longer.” I shrugged.
“You’re right.” I kissed her neck then scooped her easily into my arms. “Well, better get a move on if we’re going to catch Charlie before he calls the FBI on me.” She rolled her eyes and wrapped her arms around my neck and we sped through the forest toward Charlie’s.
“Let me do the talking.” Bella gave me a serious look, the look of death. I stifled a laugh but the corners of my mouth continued to twitch. She narrowed her eyes, annoyed.
“Bella, he’ll be fine,” I reassured her. “His thoughts are surprisingly calm for this time of night. He’s not completely freaking out about where you are.” I flashed my teeth in a smile. Bella’s expression dazed slightly, much to my amusement. It was amazing the affect I had on her. I wrapped my arm around her waist and held her close. “Come on; it’s now or never.”
She pushed the door open and flashed me a warning look, reminding me to keep my mouth shut. I ran my fingers along my lips, as if to zip them, and smiled. She sighed and walked into the living room where Charlie sat in his usual spot on the couch.
“Charile?” Bella said, her voice quivering a bit. I took her hand for support. Charlie looked up at his daughter and shot me a scathing look. ‘I wish he would just leave her alone,’ he thought. I shivered.
“Bella, what is it?” His voice was full of curiosity, but his mind was buzzing with what was to come. I held my breath in anticipation.
Bella took a deep breath before looking her father square in the eye. “Charlie, I have something to tell you.” Charlie collapsed back on the couch and mumbled, “Oh God, here it comes.” Bella narrowed her brown eyes.
“Charlie, if you can’t act maturely then I won’t tell you at all.” I stared at her, surprised at her menacing tone. Charlie was just as shocked as I was. Bella ignored her father’s astonished expression and cleared her throat to continue. “Charlie, Edward and I are getting married.” He gave me a terrifying glare making me wince in discomfort. To my relief, Bella caught the stare and glared right back at him. “Don’t be mad at Edward. I am the one who agreed to marry him. He didn’t make me do that, you know.”
“I know, but just the fact that he actually proposed to you…” He looked away in frustration.
“Dad,” she murmured. That took me by surprise; Bella never called Charlie ‘Dad’. Never. She walked over to sit beside him and took his hand. “Dad, you proposed to Renee when you were Edward’s age.” Charlie winced, his mind flashing through memories of his lost love. I knew then, Bella had won the battle.
“Yes, b-but…” He shifted in his seat, uncomfortably.
“And you really loved her. You would have done anything for her, right? You’d still do anything for her.” Charlie looked directly into his daughter’s eyes and nodded. “Then who’s to say that Edward doesn’t feel the same way about me?” He looked down, everything that had just been dropped on him slowly settling in his brain.
After a moment of silence he sighed and looked back up at Bella. “Your mother’s not going to be happy about this.”
Bella grimaced. “Well, she’s not the one getting married, now is she?” Charlie smiled.
“No, I suppose she isn’t.” He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and kissed her on the forehead. “My little girl’s growing up,” he whispered. “You really love this guy, don’t you?”
“Yes, more than anything.”
Charlie sighed. “Well, I’d be pretty hypocritical if I tried to stop you.” He turned to me, his expression severe. “You will take care of her, right?”
I nodded solemnly. “Yes, sir. You can surely count on—”
He interrupted me. “And you’ll make sure she’s always happy?”
“Yes. I promise I’ll do everything to—”
“And you’ll never hurt her?”
“Never.”
He sighed in defeat. “Good.” He looked back at Bella. “So, when’s this wedding of yours?”
Bella laughed. “Well, I’m not sure.” She turned to me. “What exactly is Alice planning?” I smiled.
“With Alice, you can never be too sure.”
