A Simple Kind of Life
(Sequel to: You Think You Know Me)
By: Kat Hamilton

Disclaimer: I don't own nobody. Hopefully the bad grammar gets that across.

Warning: THIS IS SLASH! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT... FLEE!

Authors Notes:
-As stated in the italics this is a sequel to "You Think You Know Me".
- I will have to deal within the first couple of chapters some very sensitive subject matter. I started writing "You Think You Know Me" before Chris Benoit's death and had him listed as one of Shawn's former one night stands. It's not just because of this that I feel the need to cover Chris' death in the fic but it's also because of Shawn and Adam's friendship with him. So if you don't like it, don't read it.

June 6th 2007

Shawn was slightly shocked to feel a body next to him when he woke up early that morning. He glanced over at the body next to him still fully clothed down to the shoes. Adam's face was buried into a pillow as he slept away. Then he glanced over at the clock. 8:15.

Lisa, Shawn's live-in caretaker grabbed his arm to drag him away from this site. "He just got in around six this morning."

It amazed Shawn that Adam was even there. The Smackdown and ECW tapings were in Orlando, not that far from where he lived and here he was in San Antonio with him. "Guess I'll let him sleep." Lisa got him to his feet and started to lead him out of the room. "Hang on, give me a sec." She nodded and left him alone while he hopped over to Adam's side of the bed. Shawn tucked some of Adam's hair out of his face and he leaned in and placed a light kiss on his forehead.

Adam lazily opened one eye as soon as he pulled away from him. "Hmmm?"

"I'm going to rehab in a little bit. Just thought I'd let you know."

"Hmm... kay." He reached out and grabbed Shawn's hand for a second before passing back out and dropping it. He mumbled something incoherent in his sleep and snuggled into the pillow.

As Shawn got ready his thoughts occasionally wondered to that happy afternoon they had spent together just a week ago...

The Previous Week

Adam leaned in and gave him another kiss, he grabbed his hand and looked him right in the eye. "I love you." It took Shawn several minutes to process this and he just stared at him. "Shawn? You okay?"

He just nodded before embracing him. He took in Adam's scent, he smelled clean but there wasn't a trace of any kind of cologne on him, it was still intoxicating though. "I love you too." When he broke the hug Adam gently pushed him back on the bed and ran his hands down Shawn's arms and then his chest. He let out a sigh as he leaned down just millimeters from his face. Shawn reached up and grabbed a handful of his hair and roughly pulled him in for a kiss. The kiss didn't last for long but Shawn definitely felt the effects of it. There was a bit of a problem though. "Adam..."

"What?"

"I can't do anything. I'm not allowed."

Adam looked down at the cast on his leg and moved to where he was sitting next to Shawn. He pulled some of his hair back away from his neck and whispered into his ear, "that doesn't mean I can't do anything." Then he leaned in and kissed his neck. When Shawn shivered at the touch he repeated his actions this time with a bit more force.

Shawn started to feel frustrated that they'd be limited to making out until he felt a hand slide underneath his pajama bottoms. "Wait- what- what are you-"

"Shh... Just relax."

"Have you done this before?"

"Done what?"

"WHAT YOU'RE ABOUT TO DO!"

"Not with another guy but, I've practiced a lot with myself." Adam chuckled as he saw Shawn blush and kissed him before he-

--And in order to keep this at a T rating and to keep with guidelines... You don't get to see the rest of that. Sorry.--

Unfortunately the afternoon was all that they had, Hunter came over later that night because of the full moon to keep an eye on him. Adam left the house with literally a minute to spare.

In the present...

"Shawn are you ready to be helped out yet?"

Shawn shook his head and looked down at the effects of his fantasizing. "Uh... Almost..." Granted he was supposed to be getting help washing from Lisa but, nowadays, being seen naked by a girl he barely knew kinda bothered him. Lisa had been sworn to secrecy about the two's relationship. She agreed to keep things quiet. "I'm ready."

At rehab Shawn was immediately taken to the back to avoid having him wait with all the other patients, perk to being famous. Although being famous didn't get him out of the actual rehabilitation, something Shawn wasn't fond of. He was always exhausted afterwards and usually spent the next three hours afterwards sleeping it off. And that was something that he didn't want to do with Adam at the house. So at rehab he pushed himself harder in order to get ahead of schedule.

The physical therapist took notice. "We're motivated today aren't we?"

"Yes we are."

"I guess that special lady must be it."

Shawn stopped working the machine and stared at the man. "Huh?"

"Well, ever since last week you've come in here with that dreamy, glazed over look in your eyes. You've always been not paying attention to me while I'm giving you instructions and today you're like an animal in here. I don't like to pry but you barely talk to me. The silence is kinda awkward."

"Oh." He went back to his exercises without another word.

"So am I right? You got a girlfriend?"

"I've got someone."

"So... Did you wanna talk about her at all?"

"I want to finish my exercises so I can go back home." Shawn looked over at Lisa who was snickering. The extra workout took it's toll on Shawn and he felt nearly dead when he was done. "I just wanna go home and pass out."

"But Adam's there." Lisa reminded him as she helped him into the car.

"I know that." When the two made it into the house, the sound of Boston's "Long Time" and the smell of pancakes cooking created them as they entered. Shawn refused help from Lisa as he hobbled into the kitchen. The site in that room took his breath away.

Adam was in nothing but a pair of jeans, standing in front of the stove and singing away. "Yeah. its been such a long time, I think I should be goin', yeah.
And time doesn't wait for me, it keeps on rollin'. There's a long road, I've gotta stay in time with. I've got to keep on chasin' that dream, though I may never find it, I'm always just behind it." He flipped a pancake up the air and let it land on the plate. "Well I'm takin' my time-" He turned and saw Shawn standing there and stopped singing. "How long have you been standing there?"

"Long enough to tell you not to quit your day job."

Adam sat the plate down on the kitchen table and pulled out the seat for Shawn. He grabbed him from under his arm to help him sit down. "I couldn't get back to sleep after you left so I got a shower and cooked breakfast- lunch- yeah lunch."

The radio station ran a quick commercial as they ate before coming back on with Peter Frampton's "Show Me The Way". "I wonder how your feeling. There's ringing in my ears and no one to relate to 'cept the sea. Who can I believe in? I'm kneeling on the floor. There has to be a force. Who do I phone?"

Lisa came into the room. "Shawn, I'm going to the post office for you. I'll be back in a little bit."

"Okay." Shawn looked over at Adam. As soon as his nurse left the room he leaned over and kiss him right on the lips. "I wish I wasn't so tired."

"Tough morning?"

"Yeah, I was pushing myself a little too hard. I just want to get this over with now. It'd be nice if I had a full moon coming up soon."

"What do you have like three weeks?"

Shawn pounded his fist on the table. "I can't wait that long!"

Adam grabbed his hand and kissed it. "Patience is a virtue."

Shawn wanted Patience to kiss his ass.
