Day 6

Greg was tired. After days of non stop fighting and killing he had finally been drained. But he seem elated that he had saved one of his company and whistled happy as he cleaned the blade he had been using. He took a rest for a second closing his eyes.

He passed out instantly from fatigue.

I smiled lightly and took the blade away from him finishing his work.

I took this time to go talk to Kaylin. She probably had more answers than the Master Sergeant would give me. I took a quick glance at Sam who was reading one of the books that we had found in the store, she nodded at me slightly then went back to her reading .

“Hello John!” she said cheerfully and turned to face me. Her dark blue eyes were ringed with fatigue lines and they were dirty.

“What’s up?” I asked and leaned onto the side of a wall

She shrugged. “Nothing, just cleaning the blood off this thing.” She hit her uniform. “Don’t want to be infected do I?”

I grinned. “So what are you guys doing here anyway, I mean your whole unit...?”

She sat down and sighed. “The regiment went here because we are exchanging units for awhile, some lucky British cadet unit is safe and sound in America right now….”

I sat down by her. “Do you think anyone else from your unit survived…”

She sighed. “Besides Greg, No. He led as many as he could away and I was hiding with the rest but they all died except me. If it wasn’t for Greg…I would have joined them.”

I nodded. "How do you think he does it?"

"What?"

"How do you think he kills that easily?" I asked.

She looked at the floor. "He's always been a special case, ever since I met him during school he would not hesitate to do anything dangerous...and he messed up quite a few people...and I guess its just what he does."

She giggled slightly. "But he's really a big softy. I would know..."

I raised an eyebrow. "How so..?"

She kept giggling. "Secret..."

"Come on tell me!" I asked playfully.

"Well..." She crossed her legs and looked at me.

"Please..." I gave her the puppy face.

"Fine fine. He likes me."

I held back laughter. After all that he did and how hard he acted he had a little soft spot by the name of Kaylin Pierce.

Plenty of teasing chances now.. I thought.

She started blushing a little bit. "Look dont you have better things to do then pick on me..." She wiped a strand of her brunette hair back. "Were sorta in the middle of an epidemic..."

I chuckled. "Well, you dont seem like the Marine type. Why are you wearing the uniform?"

She frowned. "Mom made me choose a program to do during summer and Greg said he could get me a high rank in this one...so I did and he was able to give me his officers bars after I passed a few tests. He is my NCO."

I burst out laughing. "Class A lover there! He gave up a lot for you!"

She slapped my leg lightly and smiled. "Thats not even the start of what he has done for me ok...He's sweet"

I looked at her not laughing anymore dectecting her tone of voice. "You dont feel for him dont you?"

She sighed and glared coldly at me. "Look go away I have to clean this stuff off. Go do something helpful rather than interrogating me for weaknesses on my Sergeant."

I frowned. "Well sorry" then got up pushing my way through the forest of clothes the store had. Time to talk to Sam I guessed.

Greg rolled over. His body was hurting but that did not bother him one bit. He had to plan. Plan how the hell he was going to lead everyone to saftey.

He got up letting his eyes adjust to the darkness of the cellar. He sat there thinking for a minute hoping something would come to mind but not a single logical or possible escape plan came up.

He slid off his uniform, too many holes and rips to be useful now he thought. After digging through a few boxes he found a pair of suitable jeans and a black shirt.

He got to his feet and walked to a door that was marked "EXIT" then walked through it to the parking structure.

Greg sort of felt sorry for dicthing everyone but he could not risk them by bringing them with him on his search for weapons and supplies.

Besides, he worked best alone.
