Digimon Adventure: Girl's Side

Episode Four: Of Soccer and Goggles

Tai let out a yawn as he walked onto the damp playing field. It was nearly empty, except for a few odd coaches like himself. Well, he wasn't a full coach, just a sub, but it was good enough for him. He got to help out the main coach, and take over when he wasn't able to come in, like today.

Tai had taken on this job at the beginning of summer. It was a young teens local soccer team, it had kids ages twelve to fifteen. Tai was the youngest coach, but then again, he had exceptional soccer skills, he was the top player in his school. He wanted to try out for the national team, so he wanted as much experience as he could get. He was graduating, this year would be his last, so he was trying to cram as much in as he could.

He dropped the bag of cones and balls, and began to set up for the drills. They had a game comming up, so they needed to run some drills and play a few practice games, to keep in top shape.

He had finished with the cones, so he decided to help one of the other coaches set up the drinks and snacks tables. There were four coaches on duty today. They weren't actually coaches, Tai just referred to them as that. They were more of helpers. Two helped him out, while the other was a medic in case anyone got hurt. Normally Tai worked on the sidelines, but the real coach couldn't come in so it had become Tai's job.

Soon kids started flocking to the playing field, some were changing into the uniform, while others were practicing. Tai noticed one of the star players, she was alone today. Usually she was with the only other girl on the team, both the best players. Tai laughed when the other girl bounced over, and wrapped her hands around the girls neck, giving her a hug. The first girl, Koji, was blond, and had bright blue eyes. She was quite and only hung around the other girl, Lani. Lani was the opposite of Koji, she was open, and friendly. She was a brunette with green eyes.

Tai turned his attention back to the field, he called the kids out, and soon the field was filled with kids all dressed in blue and black. Tai had a pretty hard time concentrating on the task at hand, his mind kept drifting back to two days ago.

"Tai!" Kari shouted, rushing into the house, "Tai! Come quick!"

Tai came running out of his room, dressed only in a towel. Obviously, he had just stepped out of the shower. He looked at the worried face of his sister, to Amika, and Davis, and the new girl... With a Digimon? "W-What's going on? Why does she have a digimon?" He asked.

"Tai!" Kari shouted, "Look!" She held out the small pink digimon in her arms to Tai. It was Koromon. Koromon was Tai's partner. Tai gasped, and took the small animal in his arms, he clutched onto him for dear life, Koromon yawned as Tai moved him around in his arms. He was okay, just exhausted. A smile of relief spread across Tai's face. "What happened?" he asked, putting aside his earlier questions, this was more important.

"He attacked us," Davis said, "He had some sort of weird collar or something on, and once we destroied it, he was fine, and reverted back to Koromon."

Amika put her hand on Tai's shoulder, trying to comfort her boyfriend. "It's okay Tai. He's fine now, and once he wakes, we can ask him what happened, and get whoever did this!" she said, full of determination.

"Tai..." Kari started, "This is my friend Sierra, she freed Greymon. She is one of the new Digidestined Gennai told us about!" She announced with a cheery tone. They had found the second one, and only needed to find two more.

Sierra smiled shyly, and waved. "I'm Sierra, and this is my partner, Gazimon." Her partner waved too. Sierra was holding him in her arms. He was a bit big for it, but Sierra felt a strong bond with him, and didn't want to let him go. "Oh!" She piped up, "I've got this too." She fished through her pocket and pulled out a D3, just like his sisters, except it was grey in color, not pink.

Tai's game had been a bit sloppy at the start, but he picked up after he realized he had nothing to worry about. He had Koromon with him now; he was with Kari at the moment. Plus, these new Digidestined weren't his problem, he shouldn't have to fret over them, right? Wrong, Tai was Tai, and no matter what, his problem or not, he would still be involved. When Davis had taken over his spot, he was there as much as he could be. He was still a leader, even though he had passed on his throne.

Sure, it was true Koromon was with him, and he should be happy for that alone, but, Koromon had been Greymon, and had been attacking his friends. That he couldn't let just slide. None of the Digidestined would be calm if their digimon had been being controlled. It was like the Digimon Emperor all over again, except that Ken was with them, and continued to prove he was on their side every day.

Tai huffed as he ran down the feild, he had blown his whistle and called a pause, someone had gotten hurt. He ran up and saw the blond girl, the star player; Koji, on the field. There was a bit of blood trickling down her leg from a cut on her knee, and he ankle seemed to be bruising rapidly. Tai swore under his breathe, one of the best players had been injured. "What happened?" He asked.

A shy boy, one of the younger players piped up, "Toya was trying to get the ball from her, and both fell, probably slipped on a kick." Tai nodded, and located Toya. He was sitting on the ground a few feet away, he was able to walk, and just had a few scrapes and lots of grass stains. Tai let out a sigh, it was good that the other player hadn't been injured as well. He grabbed Koji under the arms and lifted her up. She glared at him, but didn't make a fuss.

He helped the younger teen walk over to the benches, where the medic came and took care of her wounds. Tai had set up the rest of the players to do some more drills, then he went back to pay the blond girl a visit. "You doing okay?" He asked, taking a seat next to her.

She chuckled, "It really isn't a big deal, just a sprain. Lucky I didn't break it."

Tai chuckled too, "Yeah," he said, "You'll still be able to play in the match at the end of the month, the medic said it would be all healed by then." Koji's face lit up at Tai's words. He knew that soccer meant alot to the young girl, just like it did to him. The young girl definatly reminded him of Davis.

Later that night, Tai had called Matt to inform him what had happened. Tai knew TK probably hadn't spoke to Matt about any of it yet, so he decided to take it upon himself to fill the older blond in. "So, what do you think is going on, you know, with the Greymon attack and all?"

"Well Tai, we probably have some evil digimon planning something. Especially if we can't get in the digital world."

"Yeah," Tai sighed, "You're probably right, and Amika and that new girl, Sierra have been found too. Well, we knew Amika was a digidestined, but we all thought her fight was over. Guess not ne?"

"Well, I think we still need to stick around for this fight. We helped TK, Kari and the others, we'll help these guys too."

"Of course we will. We're digidestined after all!" Tai laughed, he could hear Matt's laughter ringing in the phone. "I think Davis is kinda bummed though..."

Matt laughed, "Tai, you were bummed too when Davis came along and stole your thunder. He is probably just going through the same thing. Besides, he idolizes you, he wants to be just like you. He is probably more bummed to hear that Amika also got her goggles from you."

"Dude, she was moving away, I was like six, what was I supposed to do?"

"Maybe not give them to her?"

"Heh, how was I supposed to know that they would be a sign of my greatness?"

"Tai, you're full of it."

"I know."

"Anyways, I'm supposed to call TK, I've gotta let you go now."

"Alright. Bye Matt, I love you."

"...Good night, Tai."

Later that night, in an apartment complex where everyone was sleeping except one lone boy, a glass door slide open, letting the cool nights air rush into the quiet apartment. Davis Motomiya walked out on to the balcony in his PJs, holding is goggles in his hands. He let out a sigh, and plopped down into a chair. "Tai gave these to me... As proof that I was good enough to take his place. But, Amika's goggles are proof that he's had more then one pair. What if he was just pawning these off on me, and gives out goggles to whoever the hell he wants?" Daivis growled. "What if Tai didn't mean what he said, what if he didn't think I was good enough? What if Amika had taken my place before I even met Veemon?" He sighed again, it was becoming his new habit. He glance back into his room and could see DemiVeemon asleep on his bed, curled into the blankets. He smiled, and shook his head. "Stupid Tai..."
