I was crushed. But I also felt stupid. Of course she would not still be there. She probably went home. Speaking of which I should get home and maybe the pack can help.

I went out in the woods and phased. As soon as I did I heard the voices of the others.

Were have you been? Sam.

Why do you have a girl in your mind…you imprinted!! Whoo!! Quil.

So I explained everything and told them I was on my way back. I ran for a while and once again my mind did not exactly register how long I ran. My mind was too busy focusing on things like before. But unlike before, my thoughts were happy and not bella-centered.

When I got back home everyone greeted me warmly and I apologized 1,000,000,000 times. They even had a cookout to celebrate my coming home/imprinting.

“Hey Jake,” Sam said seriously. “I looked on the internet at birth certificates in new Hampshire and I could not find her anywhere. It would help if you knew her last name… according to them no one named Elizabeth has been around for over 50 years. Maybe she does not live there.”

That’s odd. Oh well.

“Is that it? You sounded like you had bad news,” I stated casually turning my attention back to Paul and Quil who were racing to see who could eat the most hot dogs without barfing.

“Well… I think I might have found her, but you… its hard…” he sighed, “You’ll just have to see for yourself.”

So we walked over to Sam’s car and he held up a picture. And sure enough it was Lizzy.

I smiled, “That’s her.”

Sam looked sadly at me in a sympathetic way and I was beginning to grow suspicious. I glanced at him, a look of annoyance and confusion dancing across my face.

He sighed, looked me straight in the eyes and said, “I was afraid of that. This girl that you are looking at, the one you imprinted on,” he took a deep breath then continued shakily, “Is dead.”
