I had no idea who these men were, and what they were doing in the master’s house. They had to leave quickly before Mr. Joshua found out. My breathing was becoming erratic, and it was getting harder and harder to control it. Suddenly, I felt pain in my abdomen. Then little feet kicking me. I began to think. My child, I have my child back... I clutched at my stomach and felt myself falling to the floor. I felt hands on me, and they were gently lifting me up. I heard the voice of the taller one named Samuel.

“Hey, take it easy now. Take it easy. What’s wrong”?

I peered up at the tall man and could only stare at him. He was a man, he didn’t understand what I was going through, let alone would ever have to experience it for himself. I was gasping for breath, and in between gasps, I found the strength to speak up.

“It’s... It’s my time... Hurry... Quickly now...”

I watched the one called Samuel as his eyes widened in terror. I grabbed onto the corner of the bureau and held on for dear life. I tried to breathe, but gasping was all I was getting at the moment. I heard his voice once more.

“Take it easy. Dean and I need to get you into a bed so that you can deliver this baby safely alright”?

I shook my head no. I didn’t need help from these two men. They were strangers to me. I squatted down on the floor and stayed there. I would have to bring this child into the world myself since I couldn’t trust these two.

I placed my hands where the baby could drop down into them. I had to be very careful. I didn’t want to injure this child. I kept shaking my head. Why didn’t these two men understand? I didn’t want them touching me. I didn’t know who they were.

“No. It would be better if I did this myself. I don’t want either of you touching me. Having a child is a very delicate thing. You mustn’t rush it. It takes quite some time. I have to let my body relax itself first”.

The one called Dean made an odd face at me and looked away. Samuel was sympathetic and stayed by my side. I felt his hand on my shoulder. I shrugged it off. I didn’t want him touching me. I took a gasping breath in and tried to push. This wasn’t going to be so bad. I gasped when I felt something become stuck. The child was only halfway out, but no matter how hard I pushed, it wasn’t coming out. I looked to Samuel for help.

“There is something wrong. I think this child is stuck, and stuck tight. I know I said I didn’t want you touching me, but I can’t do this alone. I could use some assistance”.

I watched Samuel nod his head and look at me nervously. I do not think he has ever done this sort of procedure before. Well as Gertrude in the kitchen is always telling me, there’s a first time for everything... I listened as he spoke up.

“I want you to know Mary-Ann, that I’ve never done this before. We’ll both have to teach each other along the way. I’ll have my brother get some pillows for you. You shouldn’t have to give birth on a hard floor like this”.

I watched as Samuel motioned for Dean to get me some pillows. I was grateful once they were positioned behind me at just the right angle. I tried my best to keep breathing. But gasping was all I could do at the moment. Samuel looked at me concerned and spoke up.

“Are you staying with me Mary-Ann? I want you to keep breathing. Take it easy. There we go, that’s it. Let’s give a big push alright”?

I nodded my head and gathered up my strength. I couldn’t seem to push as hard as I thought I could. Samuel only looked at me in confidence. I’m glad he had such confidence in a kitchen maid. I was not very good at many things. Especially not this. I spoke up.

“It’s not working... I cannot... I cannot breathe... Please help me...”

Samuel’s expression saddened a little as I told him this. He could do nothing about my predicament though. I saw him clean his hands on a linen and grasp for something. I began to panic when he placed the contraption over my nose and my mouth. What was this thing? He saw the wild look that was about in my eyes and tried his best to comfort me.

“Take it easy Mary-Ann. This is going to help you breathe. Relax. There we go. Now, I want you to give another big push alright? Should help get your child unstuck... Don’t take my word for it though... That’s it. Good girl, you’re doing just fine... Okay... This isn’t working too well...”

I looked at Samuel and gave him a horrified look. I knew he could hear my terrified screams behind the mask he had placed over my nose and mouth. I was in pain though too. I was getting terribly tired all of a sudden. I looked over to the right of me and found the woman that is my great-great-great granddaughter next to me. She seemed to be having the same problem I was at the moment. I heard Dean speak up.

“No, not Nina too! What are we gonna do now Sammy”?

I watched Samuel, he had a very difficult decision to make at this very moment, it would alter both my life, and the life of my great-great-great granddaughter. I listened as Samuel spoke up in a soothing calm tone of voice.

“Dean you’re going to have to help Nina out. I’ve got my hands full with Mary-Ann over here. Now that I think about it, it’s not really happening to Nina at all. She still must be between the two worlds, and she’s feeling what Mary-Ann’s feeling. It’s like they’re both tied at the hip. Like twins linked at the chest and share one heart. Dean if we don’t get Mary-Ann’s baby out soon, it’ll kill them both. Help Nina out Dean. She needs it”.

I saw Dean make faces at Samuel and walk over to my granddaughter. The terrible trouble she was having. She was shaking terribly. The bruises on her face looked fresh. I watched as she looked at me. A single handprint marked her face. Mr. Joshua must have done that to her. I heard noise out in the hallway.

The heavy footsteps always frightened me, but now they frightened my granddaughter as well. She knew what it was like to live under his constant watch. She knew my story now. Out of fear I grabbed for my granddaughter’s hand hoping that she would be comforted by the gesture. I watched as the door slammed open, and in came Mr. Joshua. I could almost smell the liquor on his breath. I listened as he spoke up.

“Ha, there are two of you now? I must be a lucky man...”

I tried my best to move away from Mr. Joshua, but Samuel told me to stay where I was at. I watched as Dean took a long shot gun out and shot at Mr. Joshua. He turned into a black mist and disappeared. I sighed in relief and lie back against my pillows. I heard Samuel’s voice speaking to me.

“It’s alright now Mary-Ann. Joshua’s gone. You can relax. Your child is almost out. I want you to give one last big push. There we go, that’s it. Almost there. And... You have a wonderful little girl Mary-Ann. Let’s dry her off. She’s beautiful... I think she has your eyes Mary-Ann”.

I looked at Samuel and silently thanked him. I watched as he cleaned my little Lilian off and placed her in my arms. I smiled at him and spoke up.

“Thank-you Samuel for helping me. I greatly appreciate it. Now, if you’d so kindly help my granddaughter over there. She seems to be having a little trouble still”.

Samuel nodded his and took the mask he had placed over my nose and mouth off. It felt good to get that contraption off. Strangely, it made me feel better. I kept smiling, and as I did, a bright light surrounded me and I slowly started to disappear.

I wasn’t fairing so well. I didn’t know if it was because I was stuck between the past and the present or what. But one thing was for sure, I was feeling the after affects of something. I just didn’t know what it was for sure. The pain in my abdomen was ever increasing. I held onto my stomach with my left hand.

I noticed something was missing. My wedding ring. But where could it have possibly gone? Peter gave that ring to me out of love. A symbol of our everlasting love for each other. I had by this time turned over onto my side the pain had gotten so bad. I could heard Sam’s voice.

“Nina, Dean and I are here to help you. The pain is that bad isn’t it? We’ll find you something to make it go away. Dean and I don’t like to see you like this. The last time we saw you like this was when you were giving birth to Jamie. There shouldn’t be any logical reason why you would be going through labor. You’re not pregnant anymore”.

I hissed in pain for a moment. My back felt like strange. I heard Sam and Dean moving behind me. I felt gentle hands on my back for a second. Somebody had cold hands. I spoke up.

“Who has cold hands? And why are you touching my back? Is there something wrong with my back? What do you see back there you two”?

I heard Sam clear his throat and look over my shoulder at me. I had a strange feeling something happened to me while I was in the past. But what was it? I listened as he spoke up.

“Nina, you have lesions all over your back. Now where they came from I’m not sure, but we need to treat them with anti-septic or they’ll get infected. What happened to you while you were in the past? Something tells me by the handprint and the bruises on your face not so good...”

I nodded my head, it was simple, Mr. Pittock had given me the handprint on my face. And I suppose the bruises came from him too, but at a different point in time on the same day. I just don’t remember. I accepted the help up off the floor from the boys. I was still feeling the labor pains shooting through my body for some odd reason, and I didn’t like it. I leaned over Katie for a moment and smoothed a lock of dark brown hair out of her face. I turned to Sam and spoke up.

“How is she? She hasn’t gone into any seizures has she? I don’t need that right now. About a week ago she suffered what looked like a heart attack. I’ve been watching her like a hawk ever since...”

Both Sam and Dean looked at me with startled expressions on their faces. Sam placed a hand on my shoulder and squeezed it comfortingly. I smiled and tried my best not to think about what Katie might be going through. I listened as Sam spoke up.

“She seems to be doing just fine. She stabilized after you disappeared into the past. She hasn’t had any seizures. A heart attack? But she’s nine years-old Nina. Nine year-olds don’t suffer from heart attacks. Do you know what may have caused this? Something in the house? Maybe some kind of cleaning material you use everyday”?

I shook my head no. It just happened out of the blue. And it scared me. I didn’t want it to happen to her again. I kept smoothing the hair out of her face so that she wouldn’t get any into her mouth. She tends to gag when she gets her own hair in her mouth. I spoke up.

“No. It just happened suddenly. It happened the first day we moved in. It was a few minutes after we came up the stairs here. Will had just found his room and the two were fighting. I noticed Katie was holding her shoulder and asked her how long that had been going on. If it just happened or if she had been feeling it all the way here from Seattle. She had said it had just started. I had watched as she held onto her shoulder tighter and tighter.

Then she started to complain that her chest was hurting. I immediately made her lie down on the floor and called for one of the movers. They called 9-1-1 and we waited for what seemed like hours. The mover that had called 9-1-1 for us thought it was strange that we hadn’t heard any sirens out front.

So he went to go check and see if the paramedic’s had arrived. They had, but the two Douglass firs out front had landed on top of the ambulance and killed the two paramedic’s trying to get to my Katie. When I went to look out the window to make sure the paramedic’s were here, they were nowhere in sight and the trees had stood themselves upright again”.

Sam and Dean both looked at me with expressions I could not read. I got a bad feeling in my stomach, but tried my best to ignore it. The pain in my abdomen increased and I felt myself going down to the floor. I felt Sam’s gentle hand’s lifting me up. His eyes were soft and caring. I listened as he spoke up one last time.

“We’ll figure out what’s going on with you Nina. We’ll figure out why you’re having these contractions and why you’re in labor. It’s gotta be echoes from the past or something. As long as nothing serious happens like hemorrhaging. Then we’d be in trouble.”

To Be Continued...

A/N: Okay, this chapter was kind of blah don’t you think? I’ve lost my edge a little. Next chapter will be better I promise. For now, until next peace out! Thanks!
