1500 hours Earth time.

Coffee aroma filled the room as a balding man in a military uniform sipped his drink. The man, leaning back in his chair, read from a handheld computer. It was then that a beep echoed.

"Come in," the man said. The door to the room slid opened and another man wearing a similar uniform walked in. The door slid shut behind him.

"Hi Captain," the beared man said. "You sent for me?

"I did," the man replied. "Commander, you told me once you're interested in geneology, right?"

"Yes, sir," the beared man replied. "I do have an interest in the subject. Why do you ask?"

"Oh, I just received a transmission from my brother," the balding man replied. "He recently found a journal one of my ancestors kept back during the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. My brother mentioned a particular event he found in the journal."

"Oh? What was that?"

"Apparently back in 1995, not long after my great-great-great-great-great-grandparents were married," the balding man replied, "they visited the United States on their honeymoon. One day, it just so happens that a diner they were eating at was robbed and my great-great-great-great-great-grandmother was almost taken hostage apparently, but a man managed to talk the robber out of doing it."

"Wow," the bearded man said. "Makes you think how history might have played out if that man had taken your ancestor hostage if the other hadn't been able to talk the robber out of it. Who knows? He might have killed her."

"You're right," the bald man agreed. "I find myself wondering how things right now would be. Who would be the captain of the Enterprise, for example?"

The beared man opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted.

"Captain Picard," a voice over the com system said, "you're needed on the bridge immediately."

"Well," Captain Picard said, "duty is at hand Number Two. Reading will have to come at another time."

The two stood and walked out to head to the Enterprise's bridge.
