A/N: This is basically Twilight, but Edward is the new human kid in town, while Bella is a Cullen vampire. It is not the same plot as the original story by Stephenie Meyer, has a little twist and turns here and there. I own nothing!

I might not update very often; since I am very busy. Just look at the update dates on Two Ribbons and Aurora. I like to shudder. Anyway, on with the story. Written in Bella's POV.

It was the first day of high school for everyone else, but not for me. I had already attended high school far too many times; I've lost count. I was to be posing as a Junior this year, while Jasper, Emmett and Rosalie are becoming Seniors.

All throughout that day, I've seen in people's minds a picture of a new student at this school, in this sunless town. The boys thought evil of him, while the girls gushed non-stop. I shook my head in disappointment- must humans put us females to shame?

His name was Edward Masen, and he'd just move to town. He was a new kid, but everybody invited him to sit at their lunch table, especially Jessica Stanley, a girl who gawked when she first saw him. All the girls were already in dream-land, pretending that they were deeply in love with him. A few more imaginative ones even imagined themselves having a family together.

We were at lunch- Jasper, Alice, Rosalie, Emmett and I, sitting in our usual table at the corner, staring down disgusted at our 'human' lunches that consisted of a slice of pizza, an apple, and a soda. I pinched the bridge of my nose; it smelt revolting.

Bella, we're going hunting again this weekend. I could hear Alice's thoughts. I nodded my head slightly- so slight, that I thought not even Jasper or Emmett could notice it. Maybe not even Rosalie.

Just then, I saw Jasper looking at Lauren. Lauren was a human with an unbelievably good blood scent, but her personality was too fake to fit the part. I could hear his thoughts- he was going to bite her. I threw a firm look at him, and stepped on his foot, but him being a vampire and all, did not yelp in pain.

Sorry, he whispered in his head.

"It's okay," I muttered.

That was when the most appealing scent led me astray. I turned toward the direction- it was the new student, Edward Masen, walking in with Mike, Lauren trailing his back. Lust- especially from Lauren; it made me shudder.

The scent was too appealing. I had to cover my nose with my mouth, and stop inhaling just to keep in control. I was not going to slip- all those years that Carlisle had spent into nurturing us...

Jasper could sense my emotions, and swept a wave of calmness over me.

Alice whispered, "Bella, I see visions of you and that new guy. But are you really thinking of killing him?"

"I hope not..."

I looked at Edward again- his hair was an odd shade of bronze, a few strands dangling casually in front, in a messy disarray. His green eyes were fathomless, and he was almost as pale as us. He sat down in the popular table, which was strategically located in the middle of the cafeteria. Lauren and Jessica sat on either side of him, and he grew vaguely uncomfortable, fidgeting in his seat.

Lauren's thoughts were disturbing: We're definitely going to have a child together...

I shivered in my seat, and Emmett laughed loudly, teasing that I was an 'easy shaker'. In fact, he laughed so thunderously, the whole student body turned their heads to look at us.

"Now you've done it, Emmett!" I hissed harshly under my breath.

Sorry, he replied in his head sarcastically.

I tried to penetrate into the new boy's thoughts- but I couldn't. It was blank- like a bottomless abyss, but I could hear him talking to Mike so clearly. It was not possible; how could this insignificant human block my powers? He was clearly talking, and thinking about something, but I could not read his mind. I glared at him in frustration, but also in awe- he had everything I wanted. I would trade everything for that- I wanted humanity.

His head whipped around to meet my gaze, but I turned away quickly, but brown hair casting a screen on two sides of my face. He turned away, too, his blush too clear to see on his pale skin.

"Dammit. I can't read his mind," I hissed softly in frustration.

"Finally. Somebody who is safe from our little Bella," Emmett snickered. I so badly wanted to throw the pizza at him, but I knew that would just give us more attention, so I clenched my fist tightly, holding on to the edge of the table.

"Bella, are you alright?" Rosalie asked, comforting.

"Yes, I am."

I could hear Edward and Mike's conversation from afar:

"Who are those people?" Edward had asked Mike Newton out of curiosity.

"Oh, them. They are the Cullens and the Hales. But they're all couples- Alice and Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett. They live together, too. And they stay with Dr. Cullen and his wife, Mrs. Cullen. They're all adopted."

"They don't look related..."

"The Cullens are the dark-haired ones- Emmett, Alice and Bella. The Hales are the blonds- they are twins, you know?"

"So the girl with long brown hair is called... Bella?" He hesitated when he said my name. I couldn't help but stifle a giggle.

"Yeah, she's pretty but she doesn't date. So don't waste your time..." Mike had scoffed. I smiled when I thought of the first day I pretended to attend Forks, the first day I pretended to move over from Alaska. Mike, Eric, Tyler, along with a few other people, had asked me to go out. I just ignored them. It was the right thing to do. But by keeping undercover, it seems to put us in the center of attention instead.

I shook my head to distract myself from their conversation, but that just made the thirst all the more worst.

"I'll go out to class first," I announced. Everybody nodded; it was good that they didn't know what I had to escape from. The next lesson was Biology- I had learned everything before.

I went out to class early, and nobody was present yet. I sighed and took my usual seat at the back. I was comfortable and used to sitting alone; I could handle not having a lab partner since I already knew everything. Anything else that came in my way just threw me off-balance.

I was deep in thought when I heard the bell ring, and students rushed into the classroom.

Jessica's thoughts were too loud: I am going to get Edward to like me, no matter what. It was slightly disturbing, though not as much as Lauren's.

The last of the students had entered the classroom- or so I thought. I groaned mildly when Edward Masen entered the classroom. In this warm little room- the scent was maddening. It was almost taking control of me. But I stopped breathing, and covered my mouth. I clenched at the edge of the table tightly, gritting my teeth. I threw a death glare at Edward, who had unfortunately taken the only available seat- beside me.

I edged to the side of the table, leaning as far as possible from him. He glanced at me, looking at me with a bewildered look on his face.

I gritted my teeth and bit my lip. I tried to concentrate.

Ugh. This was maddening. Did this little mortal have to ruin my years of self-control?

He couldn't. I would kill him if I could get the chance. I could lure him out into the forest, and then attack. I could even slaughter him right now, along with the rest of the student body. There would be nothing left. But the family's disappointment would penetrate me. It was too much to lose.

When class ended, I walked quickly out to my next class, taking a deep fresh of air. I was finally free.

"Bella! What happened? You look like you're hyper-ventilating," Jasper whispered when he caught up with me in the hallway. He immediately calmed me down. "Tell me what happened. Now." Jeesh, his military commands sure come in handy.

"I need to get out of here, Jasper. Tell the others. I need to go hunting. See?" I pointed at my coal black eyes. "I'll be back by the weekend." I exhaled sharply and ran to my Volvo. "You guys can run," I whispered.

I took my Volvo and sped off, ditching the rest of the school day. I needed to get away from all humanity. Better yet, get away from all civilization.

I stopped at the nearest patrol station, filling my car with gas till it was full. I didn't care. I needed to hunt. Maybe I'll visit Tanya's clan in Denali.

Yes, that was where I'm going to go.

I drove off, speeding towards a snowy land to escape.

A/N: I'm not continuing till I get 5 reviews, at least.
