Welcome to Zoey!! This fic is a bit different from my other stories - but I hope you grow to love the plot, the characters and the few twists and cliff-hangers I’ll give you!!
I own nothing you recognize!
ZOEY
Prologue.
The pile of documents beside me wasn’t getting any smaller - it was endless - a magical pile of tests that seemed to conjure up two for every one I marked. Being a university lecture isn’t what its all cracked up to be - believe me, you’ve got the tests, assignments, meetings, not to mention having to prepare five lectures a week. Add to that raising a child on your own and you have, well, my life.
My daughter, Zoey, sat glued to the television like she had been for the past two hours - her bright blue eyes hadn’t missed a second of the news report - she hadn’t even moved when I had plaited her chestnut brown hair - the two pig tails now ran down her back, touching the floor…
Zoey’s short life of four years had basically consisted of this - staring at the television for hours - the programme never changing from the news channel. After all, it was the only way to keep track of her father - I haven’t spoken to him for five years - Zoey hasn’t even met him - it was better this way.
Bright blue eyes weren’t the only thing that Zoey had inherited from her father; she also had, much to my annoyance, his personality, his smugness and his annoying knack of knowing what I was thinking. I don’t know if I was being punished or something but Zoey was so much like her father that it hurt. Lots - because it wasn’t just the piercing eyes, or the attitude or even the ability to read my mind. It was the fact that Zoey had inherited her father’s powers… that’s right - my four year old daughter can control fire - and it scares the hell out of me.
“Mum - your staring at me again…” Zoey turned her head from the television for a moment and gave me a smirk before turning back to the television, “you know it creeps me out.”
I rolled my eyes at my daughter before getting off my chair and making my way down beside her, I put an arm around Zoey and told her, “and it creeps me out when you do that…”
Zoey grinned up at me before her eyes returned to the television, “it’s a fire in a apartment building,” she told me about the new report on the television, “its been going for twenty minutes and dad and the others just got there.”
I nodded, seeing the fantastic four fan out on the television, I inwardly cringed as Zoey said the word “dad”, I always second guessed my decision when Zoey uttered that word…
“You did the right thing Mum,” Zoey told me - using that creepy knack of knowing what I’m thinking, “I don’t blame you for anything…” She was frowning at the television as she told me this, “um… Mum….”
My attention turned back to the television just in time to see the building collapse, crashing to the ground in a flurry of rubble and dust - bursting into flame…
Zoey gripped my arm tightly - her grip tightening as every second past - I knew why to, I knew what has scaring her - it wasn’t that the building had collapsed - it was more who was in it when it had….
Zoey had just watched her father be buried in rubble - the one guy I had ever given my heart two had disappeared in a flood of dust - Johnny Storm had just been engulfed in a blaze…
-End of chapter-
So what do you think? Good enough to continue. The next chappie will go back five years; giving some vital information on Zoey’s back ground… Just so you know the whole story won’t be in first person - just some chapters. Hope you liked this guys, please review with any comments.
