From Dusk...

By TSAM

Spoilers: None...I dont think. I guess Ill mention them if they do come up. Lets just say Nora and George have been married...two years, maybe a bit longer.

Summary: Derek has to help Casey go through something even he cannot comprehend. Can he save her, or will they both be pulled into the dark forever?

Possibly Dasey. My storys never work out quite how I want them to, and the characters take on lives of thier own, but I promise they wont get with anyone else.

Disclaimer: Lets not even joke, alright? Im going to college to work on television...I have no aspirations of owning a show. Also, Im only doing this thing once...But it applies to all chapters.

Derek Venturi was not the kind of guy to get up early on a Saturday moring. He didn't feel the urge to 'seize the day' or what ever else it was you were supposed to do on days you had off. So what, on this bright shiny saturday morning, was he doing awake, rip-roaring and ready to go? Why were his nerves buzzing as if he should have the energy to do anything right at that moment? Well, he sure as hell didn't know. All he did know, was that he, Derek Venturi, was not that kinda guy.

Which meant it must be Caseys fault.

He didn't know how. He didn't know why. Maybe her 'do-gooder' attitude was starting to rub off on...No, the concept was to unimaginable to concieve. But, usually, at least lately, when thing hadn't been going his way, he could alomst guarentee, Casey McDonald was behind it.

Derek rolled out of bed grabbing the first (realatively clean) shirt he could find. He resisted the urge to peek in on his step-sisters room, after all he already knew she would be awake. The Great Casey McDonald, sleep in on a Saturday? Oh, the humanity! IF that girl ever did something enjoyable, the world was gonna come to an end.

He brushed his hair out of his eyes as he marched himself down the stairs. Noon. God, it was way to early to be up on a Saturday.

He flopped down on th couch and was just starting to reach for the remote when...

"DEREK!"

...Casey. He rolled his eyes, not bothering to answer. What ever it was, he hadn't done it. He probably wished he had, but it wasn't him. He had to wonder how long she had been screaming at him though...Maybe that was what woke him up?

"DEREK?!"

Seriously, did no one else in this household find that remotely annoying? He flipped the television on, turning up the volume. If she really wanted him, then she could come find him. He wasn't her personal slave...

"DEREK!?"

Derek sat straight up, now more than a little annoyed. "WHAT?" He yelled back, causing the previously undetected Marti to jump back wide eyed. The small girl latched onto the edge of the couch, obviously spooked, but never actually scared of her big brother.

"Smerek...?" She squeeked out. Derek took a deep breathe and smiled over at his little sister.

"Did I scare ya, Smarti?" At her nod, he reached over and scooped her up close to him, pretending to growl. "I'll show you scary, missy!" Marti let out a squeal and tried to avoid his wiggling fingers as he tried to attack her ticklish ribs.

"Smerek!" She giggled. Then she suddenly got serious and grabbed his hand, effectively stopping his movements. "Why where you yelling?"

"DEREK??"

Derek fell back onto the couch, pulling Marti with him. "Because your annoying step-sister won't stop screaming at me."

Marti sat up on top of her brother and looked down at him confused. "Who?"

He looked at her. Casey had been yelling for him for almost fifteen minutes at the top of her lungs. Which one could she possibly think he meant? "The loud one."

Marti shook her head. "Caseys not here."

Derek laughed lightly to himself, that Marti did associate Casey with 'loud one'. But after prossessing what it was she said, he sat up quickly, catching her by the arms. "Whaddya mean 'Caseys not here'?"

"Exactly what she said dude." Edwin spoke, his mouth full of food. He wiped his mouth before continuing. "She left with Lizzie and Nora over an hour ago. Some thing about clothes."

"She's...not here?"

"Nope!" Edwin looked down at box of cereal in his hand before offering it to Derek. "Cornflake?"

Derek gave Edwin a dirty look, snatching the box away from him. "What ever you guys are up to...Just stop. Its not gonna work."

"Dude! Come on. This is me your talking about...Would I ever try that on you? What about family loyalty bro?" Edwin spoke as he flopped himself down on the couch beside his brother. Derek gave him a long searching look.

"So...Casey is not here?"

When both his sibling shook thier head at him, he frowned, scrathing his head. "Huh."

It was about an hour later when it happened.

Derek still hadn't moved from his spot on the couch, however all thoughts of non-Casey flew out of his head the moment female-beach volley ball had come on. Hot chicks (in bikinis!) and sports, sigh, was there ever anything greater?

Edwin had run off to do god knows what with god knows who about ten minutes after Derek became absorbed into the television, while Marti sat on the floor playing with her dolls, intermitently asking Derek his opinion on why her dolls were always fighting, or what clothes should they wear. And Derek would always answer...Well, he made he wait til commercial, then he answered.

He was about half way through the game when the doorbell rang...a noise to which he paid no attention, til his fathers voice reverberated through the house.

"Could someone get the door?" When there was to answer, George sighed. "Please?"

Derek peeled his eyes off the tv. "Yeah, yeah." He grumbled as he lifted his wieght off the couch. "I got it dad!"

As he made his way towards the door, he caught the site of flashing lights coming from outside

Oh, god. The cops were after him. His first urge...was to run. That was when he remembered...He hadn't done anything. Not lately at least, and nothing worth involving the police in.

He opened the door to two male police officers.

"Well, Howdy, officers. What can I do ya for this fine morning?...after noon?"

"Is this the Venturi residence?"

Derek nodded. It was funny, because everytime he imagined the cops were at his door, the had never spoken so...softly.

"Son...is your father around?"

"He's busy...Is there something I can help you with?"

The next few words out of the officers mouth, would change Derek Venturis life, forever.

"There's been an accident..."

(A/N - Oh. My. God. That was one of the hardest chapters I ever wrote...for anything. I mean, I knew what I wanted to happen in this chapter but when I first wrote it...it was just so darn short! And This author has a wierd obsession with having every chapter over 1000 words. I just kinda believe that anything under that is not worth the time.

Any way, hope you enjoy...Please dont go to hard on me...Some of you may already know whats going on but...oh, well, my story ;)

P.S - Please be patient...I like to write a handful of chapters before I post, so my updates are not to slow, but I've only got done this and the next chapter...and I started three...so if updates are slow, its most likely the write trying to figure out what her characters want to do...
