CHAPTER 13
PONYBOYS P.O.V
I got to Room 4 as soon as the bell went. Ebonnie was already in there with two other girls. I opened the door and went in. I was surprised to see Mr. Deans standing at the front of the room. He never holds detentions.
"Sit over there." he said, pointing to the back of the room. I quickly walked to the back and sat down. We were supposed to do our homework but I had none. So I was stuck sitting there for 40 minutes doing nothing. I started tapping out a beat on the desk with a pencil but Mr. Deans told me off. I looked at the clock. Half an hour left. I looked around the room. There was a poster of times tables. I read all of them, just too waste time. I had gotten to the eleven's times tables when Mr. Deans began to speak.
"Molly you may leave now." he said. One of the girls jumped up and left. I looked at the clock. 21 minutes left. I folded my arms on the desk and rested my head on them. I was almost asleep when Mr. Deans spoke up.
"Julie you can go, Ponyboy come here." he said. I jumped up and went over to him. "Sit." he said pointing to the desk next to Ebonnie. I sat down and waited for him to say something. "I know you two skipped school last week." he said. I didn't look at Ebonnie. Maybe she had a plan to get out of this.
"Yes we did." Ebonnie said. I looked at her. She bit her lip and looked back at Mr. Deans.
"Thank you for admitting that Ebonnie. Now this is the first time both of you have done that. If it happens again I will be speaking to your parents." he said and we left the room. We didn't speak until we got outside.
"I thought it was gonna be worse than that." I said.
"Nah, he says that every time I skip." Ebonnie said.
"But he just said that was your first time." I said. She looked away.
"Nah, it’s not. I've done it before." she said. I didn't believe her but she had never lied to me before. "I'll see you later." she said and walked away. Gee how many times has she done that in the last week? I thought as I made my way home.
EBONNIES P.O.V
I couldn't admit that I had never skipped school before. But I knew Pony had. He had said so himself. So I had to leave or else he would figure it out.
The next day was Tuesday. I got to school earlier than usual. Julie and Rose were sitting around on the football field. I sat down with them.
"Hey, what you talking about?' I asked. They looked at each other before Julie answered.
"You know Pony kissed another girl yesterday." Julie said. "I saw him."
"Really?" I asked. Rose nodded.
"Yeah we were walking and we saw him." Rose said.
"Who was it?" I asked.
"Molly." Julie answered quickly.
"No he didn't." I said. They nodded again. "He did. You really need to talk to him."
"I did yesterday." I said. I was confused. Yesterday he said that we were 'officially' together and then he goes and kisses Molly. They had to be lying, I thought. But I still couldn’t convince myself.
So at lunch I found Pony on the football field, sitting on the seats that surrounded it. He was sitting with some guys I knew. Mark and Ryan.
"Hey Pony, Julie told me that you were with Molly yesterday after school." I said.
PONYBOYS P.O.V
"Hey Pony, Julie told me that you were with Molly yesterday after school." Ebonnie said, coming up to me. I turned red a little. To tell you the truth I had kissed Molly yesterday. But only so I could get back at her.
"Yeah I did." I said, without thinking.
"Why?!" she yelled. Ryan, Mark and Ebonnie’s friends Rose and Julie were watching us.
"Because I just did. I wasn't thinking." I said.
"Don't you like me anymore?" she asked. I sighed and looked at Ryan. He shrugged.
"No I don't!" I yelled. "You’re a real bitch sometimes you know." I said.
"I am not. I'm never mean to anyone!" she yelled.
"I don't mean like that. I mean you make up crap about yourself so that other people will like you. You do things that you wouldn't even dream of doing just so people will like you." I said. She stared at me and looked back at Julie and Rose.
"I do not!" she said.
"Yes you do. I'm not going with you no more." I said. She stared at me.
"Fine, I hate you!" she yelled and stormed off with Rose and Julie. Mark and Ryan stared at me.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing." Ryan said and they both looked away. I sighed. I didn't want to do that. I still kind of wanted to be with her. I just wish she would stop lying so much. I took another drag o my cigarette as I watched her walk away. She was much different than what I thought she was going to be.
We saw each other sometimes in the halls at school. When we did we looked away. I never talked to her friends and she didn't talk to mine. She refused to sit next to me. She didn't come to the same parties as I went to. She even started telling everyone that she broke up with me. Really I didn't care. I was glad I wasn't with her anymore.
