I do not Own Power Rangers
Takes place right after Dance the Night Away.
Mentions Lily/Casey, and has Theo/Lily friendship.
“Theo,” RJ began, “What are you doing,” He asked, “Lily’s been waiting outside for like ten minutes.”
“She has,” The blue ranger responded.
“Yeah, Something about a lunch thing.”
The blue ranger bolted from his seat. He ran to the door that led into the kitchen only to pull a u-turn and dash out the front door.
--
He and Lily walked into the restaurant she had picked out and sat down. Their waitress handed them menus after taking drink orders she left the two rangers alone.
“So,” He began, “No Casey?”
“No,” She replied, “Just me and you.”
Theo tried to hide the smile on his face, but it fell off when Lily spoke again.
“He and I are going to a ball game tomorrow.”
“You are?”
“Yeah,” she replied, “It was his idea.”
“Really?”
“He said we should keep our tradition,” She explained, “And we would start our own.”
“Oh, ok.”
“And we are going to start doing things together as a group too.”
Theo nodded. He just couldn’t win, but at least he and Lily could enjoy a pleasant lunch with his best friend, or so he thought.
The waitress returned and took their orders only to retreat to the kitchen shortly after. The food came and as they began to eat Lily started what he could only call the conversation of doom.
“Theo?”
“Yeah,”
“Do you have feelings for me,” She asked, “You know as more than a friend?”
Nearly choking on the mouthful of food he had in his mouth, he tried desperately to respond.
“Lil!?” he exclaimed choking on his mouthful of salad when he managed to breathe again he spoke again, “You’re my best friend, and in a way,” he finished, “My sister.”
She sighed in relief. She put her hand to her chest and let out a long breath of air.
“Good,” She responded, “That’s how I feel about you.”
Her following actions were classic. She laughed lightly while breathing out. Whenever she would stop and look at him she would laugh again.
“What’s so funny?”
“I thought,” She began, “You were jealous, because you liked me.”
“Jealous?” He asked, “Of you and Casey,”
She nodded smiling.
“Come on Lil,” He began, “You’re my friend and that’s it.”
“That’s good,” She began, “Because I was worried.”
“About what?”
“How I was going to let you down,” She responded, “Would our friendship survive?”
“Is that why you asked Casey not to come?”
Lily who was in mid bite stopped cold. She looked at the blue ranger shocked.
“How?”
“We’ve been friends for how long?” he asked,
“Stupid question?”
“Only a little.”
“I just wanted to make sure the air is clear between us,” She began, “Our friendship means a lot to me.”
“It means a lot to me too Lil,” he replied, “That’s why we need to be honest with each other.”
“Agreed.” Lily spoke smiling happy things where back on track,
Picking up her cup she took a long sip of her chocolate milkshake. The delicious liquid was accumulating in her mouth when Theo asked the most shocking of questions.
“So,” he began, “When exactly did you fall in love with Casey?”
The shock hit Lily so hard the response was to spit out her drink. Unfortunately the liquid sprayed all over Theo’s face.
“Thanks I appreciated that.” He replied using his napkin to clean his face,
“Where did that come from?” She asked, “And what makes you think I’m in love with Casey?”
All Theo had to do was raise an eyebrow at his friend and give her his all-knowing look. It was the one he always uses to let people know that nothing escaped his watchful eyes.
“I hate it that you know me like that.” She responded putting her head in her hands,
He nodded indicating he knew that, “So,” he began, “When?”
“It was when he stood up to Jarrod at the academy,” She began, “I started admiring him from that moment,” She continued, “And since we’ve gotten to know each other the feelings just grew stronger and stronger,” she finished, “And one morning I woke up and realized that I’d fallen for him.”
“So what was all that ‘you’re like a little brother to me.’? ”
“He called me out on feelings I wasn’t ready to share least of all with him,” She explained, “I panicked and lied my yellow tail off.”
“Are you ever going to tell him?”
“Maybe someday,” She began, “If he ever returns my feelings.”
“Some how Lily,” Theo began, “I think he will.”
Meanwhile
Casey took one of his darts and flung it at the target hitting the bullseye. Another one followed hitting in the same area. His mind in the same slump since destroying Stingerella, and Toady.
Flashback
“My fault?” He asked Theo,
Theo nodded.
“One second I’m just the new guy, and all of a sudden it’s my fault.” He snapped, “Look I know you’ve been doing this a lot longer than I have but trust me I’m not trying to steal your thunder.”
“No,” He replied, “Just my best friend.”
“That is ridiculas!”
“Oh don’t deny it,” He snapped back, “You and Lil have….”
End Flashback“What was he about to say?” Casey thought.
Taking another dart he flung it to the board. It sunk in next to the others. Questions still plagued his mind Theo’s unfinished sentence, and then Lily’s strange behavior after the battle.
Flashback
“Hey Case,” She started grabbing his arm.
“What’s up?”
“I know,” She began, “That I invited you along on mine and Theo lunch routine,” she continued, “But I was wondering if…”
“I wouldn’t come?”
Lily was shocked at first, but shook it off and quickly explained, “There is something I need to discuss with Theo,” She finished, “And I figured…”
“It’d be easier if its just the two of you.”
“How did you figure that?”
“Well,” He began, “I was going to suggest that it just be the two of you later.”
“Why?” She asked,
“This lunch thing,” Casey began, “Is sacred to Theo, and I think our team dynamics would be well served if I don’t trespass.”
“I see,” She replied.
“However I was thinking,” He began, “I got tickets to tomorrow’s baseball game, and I was wondering if you’d like to use the last one.” He finished producing two third baseline seat tickets.”
“Sure,” She replied, “I love you.”
“Pardon?”
“I said I’d love too.” She replied catching herself.
“Great,” He replied, “It’s a date.”
“Casey!” She explained fighting down a severe blush,
“What?” He asked, “It’s just an expression.”
“Oh right,” She began, “I don’t know where my head went for a second.”
“Yeah,” he began, “What did you think I meant?”
“Oh nothing,” She replied looking at her watch, “Well will you look there I have to go meet Theo.”
The yellow ranger quickly scurried out of the loft to meet her best friend for their lunch appointment.
When she was gone he let out a sigh of disappointment. He had hoped that she had changed her mind about him. Oh well at least he’d get an afternoon alone with her, and maybe just maybe she would eventually change her mind.
End Flashback
Throwing his last dart he again nailed the bull’s-eye. He had already spoken to RJ and got Lily and himself tomorrow afternoon off. Tired of playing darts he sat down to think. The yellow ranger was a riddle in a puzzle wrapped in an enigma.
One minute she treats him like a brother. The next minute there are hints that she might like him as more than a friend. When she smiles incredible warmth spread through his chest. He could lose himself in her eyes and never want to be found.
He wasn’t sure when or where, but he had fallen for the yellow ranger. His heart ached to hold her, to touch her, and to kiss her. Unfortunately he would always be the little brother to her.
“I have no chance.” He murmured noticing his lunch break was up.
Grabbing his orange cap and slipping it on he walked downstairs to the kitchen in time for the 12:37 rush. Some work was just what he needed to take his mind off the forbidden fruit known as Lily.
