Lemon Lime

It was almost funny that they began their friendship over a simple blix drink. James didn’t even like the flavour that much; he wasn’t quite sure what made him grab it. It wasn’t that he particularly disliked the flavour, it’s just he didn’t particularly favour it either.

He was sitting along at a table in the quad, just sipping his blix drink, and finishing up his lunch. Shifting between realities and his day dreams. His thoughts meandering all over the place. His voice startled him, and it startled him even more when the figure plopped down and continued to talk. He forced himself to concentrate on his words.

“Hey,” the bushy haired guy voiced, “Lemon-lime. Nice, did you know that 87 percent of kids are more likely to pick lemonade over lime juice, so it’s interesting you’re drinking both.”

James raised his eyebrow, he’d barely talked to Chase since he returned from England, and “got the girl” so to speak, and after just the beginning of his random conversation was enough to convince him of the fact that he really was best friends with Michael. But as he watched Chase nervously bite into his sandwich, a deep suspicion hit him.

“You’re not really here to talk about my preference in summer blix drinks are you.” James said, his voice slightly coloured with curiosity.

Chase dropped his sandwich along with his pretences. “No,” he admitted, slightly sheepish. He rubbed his hand nervously against the back of his neck. James shifted uncomfortably, sensing the next subject they were going to breech would be uncomfortable.

“Look,” they bushy haired guy began, “I really just wanted to apologise. I know that you were cool with your break-up with Zoey, and I know you guys are still good friends and such. And I know that you say you are over it now, and are moved on. But...” he paused, and James shifted uncomfortably again. “Well, look. I been in love with Zoey for as long as I can remember. And if some dude just came out of nowhere, someone I didn’t even know, and just took her away from me, even if we did break up, I know I’d be I little cheesed off. No, a lot cheesed off. And I most certainly couldn’t handle being friends with her while she was with another guy.” Chase took a deep breath, “What I’m trying to say...is...Thanks, thank-you for being so cool. Zoey really does appreciate your friendship, and I know so does the rest of the gang. All of them say you’re a pretty cool guy. And maybe we could chill sometime, you know, get to know each other better?”

James was starring at Chase, he certainly was a interesting character. He wondered if he could be friends with the reason that he and Zoey were no longer together. But as he looked over a couple tables to where Zoey and Lola were sitting, and Zoey was laughing her head off, he knew he could. Zoey was happy, and he was sure nothing would make her happier than him and Chase being friends, and he still loved Zoey enough to try.

So there odd friendship began. And it all started with a simple drink of blix.
