Summary: Link and Ike pop the big question. Will Pit and Peach say yes?

Rating: T

4 P.M. – Dining Room

As Ike was consuming his late afternoon snack of a double cheeseburger with a can orange soda, Link came into the room and sat at the table with the mercenary, a small brown package in his hand. “You know Peach is gonna skin you alive if she sees you eating that…” the Hylian snickered.

The blue-haired swordsman rolled his eyes and muttered, “Whatever… Peach is at the grocery store with Pit and Nana anyways, so she’ll never know about it…” He narrowed his eyes at the blond, “…Unless you decide to open your big fat mouth and snitch…”

Link gasped dramatically, pouted and faked a sad expression, “Ike… that hurts. I would never do that to my bestest friend in the whole wide world!” Then he started laughing idiotically, earning him an irritated glare from the bluenette.

The Tellius native sighed lightly and nibbled more on his burger before he remembered something highly important, “Oh! Did you get them?”

Link nodded and opened the brown parcel, which had two small, black velvet ring boxes in it, “Arrived special delivery this morning… and a good thing, too, because I was planning on asking Pit tonight.”

“Same here…” Ike replied, finishing off his sandwich and gulping down the remainder of his soda.

A month earlier, Link and Ike had come to the conclusion that it was probably an excellent time to pop the all-important question to Pit and Peach. Sure, they had only been dating for about ten months (nine in Link and Pit’s case), but they both deeply believed that they were the ones Ike and Link would spend the rest of their lives with… It was almost in the vein of a gut instinct…

So, while Pit and Peach were busy assisting Crimson with his beloved Pokémon, Ike and Link snuck out of the mansion and made a trip to the Crystal Caves Jewelry Galleria in Southern Smashtown. The two swordsmen selected a combination of various precious stones and created custom engagement rings for their significant others.

Seeing as it would take around three weeks for the rings to be finished, the Ragnell and Master Sword wielders kindly requested for the store to ship the rings special order to the manor once they were done. Plus, it would avoid awkward questions if they had to disappear again to pick up the rings directly from the store.

Link took out the box with a green and white double bow symbol engraved on the top and cracked it open to see the engagement ring he had ordered for his precious white angel, a smile spreading across his face. “Pit is going to be so thrilled when he sees this… he’ll be speechless.”

Ike grabbed the other sachet, which had a blue and pink sword and crown symbol imprinted on the velvet lid, and cracked it open, revealing the fancy jewelry he had custom made for his cherished princess, a grin showing on his features as well, “…And I can’t wait to see the look on Peach’s face when she sees this…”

Link snickered, “Make sure you have some earplugs on hand because you know she’s going to scream her lungs out…”

A Cheshire smirk crept onto Ike’s face as he dove into his pants pocket and yanked out a pair of dark blue earplugs, “Way ahead of ya…”

Link stared at the earplugs for a few seconds before breaking out into childish laughter, “Wow… You’re getting better at handling her antics, I’ll say that much.”

At that moment, Nana, Pit, and Peach came bursting through the back doors of the kitchen, all three huffing and grunting as they dragged in the large flatbed carts, which had tons of groceries piled on them, “Nngh… little help, please?!”

Ike, Link, and Crimson (who was already in the kitchen) were the first ones to run in the there to aid the three smaller Smashers with the heavy carts.

“Holy crap… you guys went crazy this time,” Link said as he helped Pit with the flatbed he was pushing.

“Augh… blame it on Peach--”

“Hey!!”

“—she dashed right for the baking aisle and went completely buckwild on baking supplies…” Nana explained, fighting to push her cart while Crimson assisted her.

Ike snorted and laughed when Peach shot her a look, “Oh yeah? Well, I know you won’t be complaining when I make my famous Strawberry Shortcake Muffins…”

Nana blushed and cracked a silly smile, “...Alright, you got me there…”

Peach huffed triumphantly as she and Ike started unloading the baking supplies and ingredients; Crimson and Nana handled the cleaning supplies and hygiene products (for the individual dorms); Link and Pit took charge of putting the frozen foods and novelties in the huge walk-in freezer

Link began placing T.V, dinners and frozen entrees on their designated shelf while Pit was unloading ice cream, popsicles, and other icy treats.

“…Pit?”

“Yes?”

The Hylian’s heart beat a little faster as he slowly spoke, “Uhm… there’s a really important question that I want to ask you… I know it may seem a bit too early to be asking you something like this, but… I have a strong feeling that it might be the right time for us…”

Pit blinked and turned around, gazing at his Hylian lover, “…And… what question might it be?” He figured it may be that—which was what Pit wanted more than anything—but he wouldn’t jump to conclusions just yet.

“…I’ll inquire you after dinner tonight… Now isn’t the right moment…” Link replied, giving Pit a warm smile, “I want it to be extra special when the time comes…”

Pit’s wings fluffed out at Link’s explanation, and he nodded, “Okay, Link…”

The swordsman nodded back and reached down to pick up the next box of frozen pizza when the velvet ring box dropped out of his jacket pocket, bouncing across the cold metal floor a few times before landing on Pit’s foot. The Hylian blinked stupidly, then muttered, “Oh crap…”

“…??” Pit glanced down and picked up the ring carrier, “What’s this?” He gently opened it and his eyes nearly fell out of his head when he saw the engagement ring inside, “L-Link… Oh my god…”

Link politely took the box from Pit and gazed at the band, “It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Ike is going to ask Peach to marry him tonight and he wanted me to babysit his ring until after dinner…”

“Oh… I-I see…” the white angel mumbled inaudibly in a dejected tone as he stared at the box before down-casting his eyes to the floor.

The swordsman noticed the expression on the other male’s face and placed a hand on his shoulder, “…Pit?”

However, Pit found no comfort in Link’s touch; he simply shrugged him off and deadpanned, “Really… I’m fine…”

Link sighed heavily and whispered, “Alright, if you say so…” He pocketed Ike’s ring box, but inwardly, the dark blond was mentally kicking himself. ‘Don’t worry, Pit… I’ll make it up to you… Just be patient…’

6:30 P.M. - Foyer

Link and Ike met up again in the foyer near the grand staircase and exchanged their ring boxes so that they now had their rightful one.

“It was a good idea to keep each other’s boxes until after dinner..” Ike replied, giving Link his box and taking back his own.

“Yeah.. it was a close call for me in the freezer with Pit. Your ring box had slipped out of my pocket, and I explained to him that it was yours.” Link winced slightly as he recalled the rejected look on the angel’s face, “He looked so disappointed that it wasn’t for him… Hopefully, he’ll still say yes when I pop the question.”

Ike rolled his eyes and flicked one of Link’s pointy ears, “Would you quit being a worrywart already? He’s going to accept your proposal! Now march up there and ask him to be your wife… husband… However it works for same sex couples…”

Link chuckled lightly at Ike’s confusion and wished him luck as well before racing up the stairs to his dorm.

6:45 P.M. – Link and Pit’s Dorm

Pit stood on the balcony outside of their room, his body leaning against the stone balcony wall as a gentle breeze swept by him. He fluffed his snowy wings out to let the air comb through his feathers. His sapphire eyes stared out at the now midnight blue sky and the satiny silver moon glow of the waning moon being the only source of light.

The angel captain was still quite upset over the little incident that had transpired in the kitchen freezer. He knew Link loved him to death, but did he not love him enough to ask for Pit’s hand in marriage? Maybe he just wasn’t good enough for Link…

Pit sighed heavily, exhaling a long deep breathe, ‘Maybe he’s not ready to ask me yet… Maybe he doesn’t have enough money for a ring yet…… Maybe I should just be patient… But… no… Link has the Triforce of Courage… He’s brave…. He would’ve asked by now… Wait.. I have to stop making premature assumptions…’

At that moment, he heard someone come into the dorm, “…Pit? You in here?”

The angel quickly recognized him as Link, “Out here… on the balcony…”

Even though he had spoken barely above a whisper, Link’s sensitive Hylian ears easily picked up Pt’s gentle voice and he walked out to the open balcony doors to discover his beloved angel standing there. Link quickly patted his left pocket, making certain that his ring box was still there before slowly approaching Pit and gently wrapping his muscular arms around the angel’s small waist and resting his head on the brunette’s shoulder.

Despite how upset he was at Link, Pit couldn’t help but lean back against the Hylian and practically melt in his embrace. Link was like a drug to Pit: no matter how hard he tried to resist or refuse him, the angel found it ultimately impossible to deny the swordsman.

Both Hylian and Angel gazed up at the deep heavens, a veil of silence covering them for a few minutes before Link softly spoke, “…I’m really sorry, Pit…”

Pit slipped his eyes shut and sighed lightly, “It’s okay, you don’t have to--”

“Yes, I do…” Link cut across him, mentally beating himself to a pulp, “…I saw how upset you were back there, and it ripped my heart up to see you like that…”

Pit blinked softly, his eyes falling half-lidded. ‘…Link…’

Link stared at his angel, and when Pit turned his head to look back at Link, the Master Sword wielder had his bottom lip poking out cutely, a sad expression on his face as a tiny, pitiful puppy whimper echoed from his throat. Pit chuckled softly and rolled his eyes, “Alright, alright, I forgive you already!”

Link smirked victoriously, “Ha ha ha.. the puppy dog face claims another gullible victim…”

The angel captain stuck his tongue out at him playfully, earning a snicker from Link from Link before silence fell upon them once more, their matching blue orbs gazing back up at the deep sapphire sky.

“….Link?” Pit questioned a few moments later.

“Hmm?”

“…What was the important question that you wanted to ask me?”

Link smiled against Pit’s shoulder. “…It’s a simple yes or no question, but first, I want to say a few things…”

Pit blinked softly, “…Okay…”

Link breathed deeply before starting, “…You’re my everything… I love you more than anything else in the world, and I hope that we can be together forever….”

A healthy pink hue exploded across Pit’s cheeks and his wings turned a dusty rose color, signaling that Link’s words were making him feel all warm and fuzzy inside. A smile slowly pulled at the corners of his mouth as the Hylian continued speaking: “Ever since the day we first met, I fell in love with you the moment I laid eyes on you… Despite the fact we haven’t been together that long, I feel as if we’re connected by a strong, special bond… Almost as if we’re one…”

The blush increased on Pit’s face and wings, “…Link…”

The knight sighed softly, a smile of his own showing proudly, “Before I ask the question, let me say this: …I promise I will love you with my eternal heart… I promise that I with protect you with my mortal life… I promise that I will be there for you, take care of you, and cherish you as best as I possibly can, Pit…”

Pit, almost to the point of euphoric tears, slowly turned around and threw his arms around Link, clinging to him like a lifeline, “…You have no idea how much it touches me to hear you say that, Link…”

Link returned the loving embrace, holding Pit close enough to where he could feel the angel’s heart beat against his own chest, “It’s the truth, Pit… You know I’d do anything for you…”

The archer couple remained in the tight embrace for a few precious moments, then Link reluctantly broke away, taking a slight step back from Pit, and quietly said, “Close your eyes… I have a surprise for you…”

Pit nodded and happily obeyed, slipping his cerulean eyes shut. Some shuffling and nervous breathing could be heard before Link’s voice spoke, “Okay… open your eyes…”

The angel captain slowly cracked his eyes open, and when he cast his gaze downwards, Pit’s eyes widened drastically, his heart nearly stopping in its tracks, and his hands flying up to unsuccessfully suppress the loud half-gasp half-scream that jumped out of his gaping mouth.

Link was bowed down on one knee, gazing up at Pit with a beaming smile, his left hand holding the ring box open. Inside the velvet box lived a silver ring with a large, polished oval-shaped mermaid pearl surrounded by six tiny gleaming emeralds. The Hylian held up his right hand, and the angel moved his trembling left hand down to join with Link’s.

With their hands holding and squeezing each other firmly, Link inhaled a deep breath, “…Pit… We may have only been dating for nine months, but my heart, my body, my mind, and my soul are screaming that you are the one for me… and you would make me the happiest man in the entire universe if you would say yes…” Link took another deep, shuddery breath, his heart pounding like mad in his ears, “…Captain Pit Icarus, would you do me the honor of being my husband?”

Tears of pure contentment spilled freely from the angel’s eyes as he nodded frantically, “Yes, of course!”

The Hylian knight let out a sigh of relief, eagerly sliding the engagement ring on Pit’s right ring finger. Once it was securely on, Link stood up onto his two feet and wrapped his arms lovingly around his new fiancée.

Pit clung to Link, deeply inhaling the knight’s signature sweet pine cologne, and Link basked in the angel’s light, airy cloud scent. Pit’s snowy wings fluffed out gently as he tilted his head back up. Sapphire eyes met with aquamarine hues and their lips locked in a deep, sensual kiss, the two engaged archers holding each other as a bright shooting star whizzed across the sky behind them.

Meanwhile – Ike and Peach’s Dorm

As soon as Peach had finished placing on the last of her outfit, she grabbed her parasol, and strolled out of the room, making sure to lock the door behind her.

I wonder what Ike wants to show me in the park…’ she asked herself, giggling quietly to no one in particular.

Ten Minutes Later – Smash Park

As Peach arrived to the spacious park, she easily spotted Ike standing underneath the tall oak tree, handsomely dressed in a pale blue tunic, black pants, his usual steel-toed boots, and his stationary brown chest plate, his ragged sapphire cape billowing in the cool nighttime wind. He brushed his fingers through his wild, azure hair before tying a skinny, raggedy indigo cloth around his head.

Ike’s hand dove into his pants pocket and felt the velvet box there, sighing softly before averting his gaze to his royal girlfriend.

The regal lady’s attire consisted of a sky blue, full-length dress with an amethyst on the bodice, matching amethyst earrings, white elbow-length dress gloves, and her long blond hair framed her heart-shaped face like silky, sunny waterfalls. She had her signature sapphire ring on her left hand, and was holding her trusty light blue, lace-trimmed parasol, twirling it ever now and then, her azure heels making dainty tap-tap sounds with each step she took.

Ike smiled, stepping toward the princess, meeting her halfway before gently taking her unoccupied hand and kissing the back of it, his sapphire oceans drinking in her baby blue gems, “My Lady…”

Peach giggled softly as Ike wrapped his arm around her slim waist, the princess giving him a peck on the cheek, “My Hero…”

The mercenary smiled before turning his eyes’ attention up to the tree, “…Recognize this tree, Peach?”

“Of course, I do…” the sovereign replied with a dreamy voice, gazing up at the long, thick branches and abundant green foliage, “…This is where we shared our first kiss…”

Ike sighed softly, “…Brings back some great memories, ne?”

Peach nodded, her fingers playing with the handle of the parasol, “Indeed they do… and just think, we’re nearing our one year anniversary…”

“I know… that’s why I brought you out here tonight… I wanted to give you a special early anniversary present…”

The Mushroom native’s eyes widened and she gasped softly, “Oh?”

“Yeah…” Ike replied, becoming a bit nervous, “…You’re my everything, and you know I always try to give you the best I can give, even if it’s not always the finest of things… and, I think that’s what I love most about you, Peach. You have such a huge heart of gold and you can appreciate everything in the world, rather it costs $20 or $2,000…”

Peach giggled modestly, blushing a little, “I can’t help that I’m not a material girl…”

Ike smiled, taking her hand in his, “I’m really glad that I’ve met you, and I’ll never be able to thank you enough for giving me your love, strength, and respect…”

The princess was nearly pink in the face, her eyes already beginning to brim with tears, “Oh, Ike, you’re going to make me cry…”

“I’m sorry, my dear…. But you know it’s the honest truth…” the bluenette explained, “That’s why I want us to be together forever… I want to be your hero for eternity… I want you to be my lady for life… Can you do that for me?”

Peach blinked softly, blushing to the point where her plump cheeks were a dusty rose color, “Ike, you know I would love nothing more than that… What can I do to fulfill that promise?”

Ike closed his eyes, breathing deeply as he reached in his pocket and lowered onto one knee, holding up the open ring box and gazing up at Peach with a sincere smile.

“Ike!” Peach nearly screamed in pure shock, her mind scrambling all over the place while her other hand absentmindedly dropped the fancy parasol. Her body seemed to have frozen in place as her weeping eyes stared at the mercenary.

“You can fulfill my promise by accepting this proposal…” Ike’s heart was hammering out of his chest as he confidently asked, “Princess Peach Toadstool… would you make me the happiest man in the world by marrying me?”

Unable to speak at the moment, Peach nodded her head rapidly, sobbing in joy as she threw her arms around the tall male. Ike kissed the princess’s soft cheek a few times before taking her hand and placing the elegant band on her right ring finger. Peach used her other gloved hand to wipe her tears away so she could see how it looked. Thanks to the silvery moonlight, the woman could see that the band was gold, and embedded with a sparkling heart-shaped opal that was encircled by small sapphires.

Ike then pulled Peach into his arms, catching the royal in a loving kiss as she grasped his shoulders. As their kiss deepened, another set of euphoric tears slipped down her supple cheeks, holding onto Ike as if he would disappear if she let him go.

They pulled away after a few minutes to catch their breath, Peach resting her head on Ike’s shoulder and the bluenette stroking the blond’s long hair, “…Thank you, Peach… You’ve made me the happiest man on this Earth…”

Peach blushed modestly, “Me? I should be thank you… I never thought I’d meet someone as loving, kind, and caring as you, Ike… You’ve always made me happy, but now… You’ve made me even happier…”
