What's more important, Mello?
Chapter 4- True Devotion
Sitting in the dark cafe, Matt stared out the window watching the cars pass by quickly. He hated being here, and sometimes wanted to just go back to England. He kind of missed the Whammy house, other than the way they treated kids. Other than that, the place was great.
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, he had a headache from thinking way too much. All he wanted was to just be happy and live a simple life without much drama. Well, Guess that was over already. It was too late to start a new life and to begin a little new one. When he was in early teens, he fantasized about 2 kids and a wife. He couldn't say he was that much into women, but the fantasy was nice.
Matt was startled by the ringing of his cell phone, that said "MELLO" on the front of it. 'Why's he calling me, now?' He wondered as he flipped it over with an annoyed "Yeah?"
"Not nice to ignore people, Matt. I wanted to know if you could get me some chocolate while you're out. All the rest is melted. Steve put them next to the heater like an idiot." Mello asked, asking as if they were all buddy buddy like again. But, who was Matt to complain. At least they weren't fighting anymore; unless Mello just wanted chocolate.
"Alright, I'll get some." Was all he said, before closing his phone and staring down at it for a long time, before finally leaving.
(Back Flash)
"Hey, Mello, look what I found!" Kid Matt shouted, running over to his best friend with a box of something. Kid Mello eyed it suspiciously when he dropped it, poking it for a second before asking,
"What is it?"
"I don't know... Here help me open it."
"Wait, Matt. This is Robert's."
"I know." Matt said with a silly grin that made Mello laugh. The two opened the box, only to find items that a little kid shouldn't find when looking through someone things. And by that, they found sexual toys.
Matt's eyes widened and dropped them as he knew what they were. Mello, on the other hand, was playing with them like it was the normalized thing.
"Mello, let's retur-"
"Children shouldn't steal others things." Came Robert's voice from behind them.
(Back flash Ended)
Taking a bite of his chocolate, Mello found himself thinking more and more of his friend. He didn't want to treat him like he hated him, but he didn't want Matt to know the truth either. He didn't think Matt would even care that he cared for him more than a friend, but not like a lover. Matt didn't seem to care about anything other than cigarettes and those damn games.
Mello had to admit, he was jealous. Jealous of those systems that were stealing his friend away. Matt acted like the Death Note wasn't important, but everyone knew it was, it could kill the most dangerous person in less than 60 seconds. If only it could kill an inanimate object. He's kill that Game-Boy faster than someone could say 'Death Note'.
"Matt." He sighed, taking another bite and kicking the whole box under his bed. He had sent Matt on a useless quest, all before he didn't feel like seeing his face. Now that he thought about it, he wasn't being very fair. But, who cares. When he becomes the new Kira, nothing will be fair.
"Hey, Mello." Matt said, sitting down next to him with Game-Boy in hand. He was already back after only 10 minutes. He was a quick one, Matt was.
"Did you get it?"
"No."
"Why not!" He demanded, slamming his hand down on the couch. Matt didn't even look up though. He didn't think he owed Mello any favours from the way he'd been treating him.
He didn't answer Mello as he just continued to play his game, with the sound "LEVEL 636!" Coming from the speakers.
"Matt, please go get me some chocolate."
"Well since you said please."
"Really?" Mello smiled and sat back, glad to have his way again.
"I just go get the box from under your bed." Mello was a little shocked by his answer, no one knew about his hidden stash except himself. The thought didn't last long though, as he remembered he had showed Matt the hiding place a couple months ago. Kind of dumb of his to forget. But, once again, his stupid emotions were getting in the way like they always did.
It was quiet for a long time, until the gong of the clock rang out through the small house. Neither moved though, as they were both spaced out into their own little worlds. Though, Matt looked to be in his the deepest, as he just stopped pushing the buttons.
"Matt?" Mello asked, waving a hand in his face.
"Huh?" Matt looked at Mello, who was now right up near him, blowing in his face. "Mello, what are you doing?"
"You were distant." He mumbled, taking the cigarette from Matt's mouth and put it out. "Shouldn't think so much, it's not healthy." He said, also taking his game-boy away from him.
"Don't see how." He wondered how thinking too much wasn't healthy, when all the Whammy kids did was think. That's what they were grown up to do, so they could surpass L.
All of a sudden, Matt wanted to leave again, to get away from Mello. He never wanted to be near him anymore, half afraid that he was going to hurt him again.
"I need to leave." Matt whispered to himself more than to Mello, who grabbed his arm and wouldn't let him leave.
"No, it's dark and raining and I'm not letting you leave." Mello snapped, as if he even really cared if something happened to Matt.
Though as he wrapped his arms around Matt's waist and layed against him, Matt changed his mind. He'd rather stay with Mello like this than come back to Mello throwing things at him, and hating him again when he didn't do anything.
"Fine, I'll stay."
"Matt, what's gotten into you?" He asked, Matt a little confused by that question, that he paniced and practically shouted his answer.
"Nothing's gotten into me!" Mello looked up at him with a raised eyebrow, than laid his head back down on him with a shrug. Whatever Matt was panicing about, it was his problem. All Mello wanted to do now was to suck up to him.
He'd get his way no matter what than.
