Here’s chapter 3! Ok I know this story seems a bit like Twilight by Stephenie Meyers but I am not trying to rip off her book. I love the Twilight series though and can’t wait for book four! And the movie! Thanks for writing awesome books Stephenie!!

Chapter 3- Family

Finally. Saturday. I thought while I stretched my arms above my head. Everyday other than Friday for the past two weeks had felt like Saturday so…I guess there wasn’t much of a difference…

I walked out to the living room where Azami and Kinta were laying around watching TV as usual. I walked past them to the front door but was stopped by Azami.

“Where’re you going?” she asked, looking over at me from her upside down position on the couch.

“To walk around,” I replied, looking over at her.

“Oh. Well it’s raining so take that umbrella,” she said pointing over to an umbrella next to the door. I frowned looking down at the umbrella then looked back over at Azami.

“But if I take the umbrella and actually use it, it’ll make me look gay. And I am not gay,” I complained. Azami scoffed and sat up.

“It wont make you look gay. Just take it,” she said looking back at the TV.

“I don’t need it.”

“Take it.”

“No.”

“Comon!”

“Just take the damned umbrella, Kane,” Kinta said, not moving, keeping his focus on the show they were watching. I sighed and picked up the umbrella.

“You might need it for something else anyways,” Azami added in a singsong voice. I opened the door and left. Yes, it was raining. I kept the umbrella at my side with one hand, the other in my pocket. I made my way down the sidewalk, getting drenched

I was headed to the park. No, not the small ones with swing sets and monkey bars that little kids feel the need to be at twenty four seven. The kind of park that I went to was one of those wide opened grassy parks that people take their dogs to some times or go to to have picnics. Hardly any people in the city went there so that was one way to get away from society. I was amazed a city like this even had one of these parks.

I finally made it to the park after about ten minutes of dodging traffic and other people. No one else seemed to be there. Until of course, I caught Araya’s scent. Of course. I walked a little farther through the field and spotted a figure sitting down cross-legged. I walked over to her and opened the umbrella, hovering it above her head.

“You’ll catch a cold if you stay out here in the rain like that,” I said with a soft smile. She looked up at me then the umbrella then back out infront of her.

“It’s ok, I like the rain,” she replied. She sounded pretty happy. But why was she out in the rain? That’s not exactly your typical teenage girl behavior. I stared at her for a minute then sat down beside her, closing the umbrella and laying it beside me.

“So is this what you would do wherever it was before you came here?” I asked looking up at the sky, narrowing my eyes a bit from the water. She shook her head.

“Usually not in parks,” she replied leaning back on her hands. I chuckled a bit, looking back down at her.

“Where did you live?” I asked.

“Pretty far from here. In Colorado,” she answered casually.

“Colorado, huh?” I replied,” So you came out here just because you like the rain?”

“No, not exactly,” she replied, gaining an edge to her voice,” It’s none of your business anyways,” she added. Touchy.

“Sorry, sorry. Just curious,” I replied shrugging,” Araya, right?”

“Yea. Kane, right?” I chuckled a little.

“Yea,” I replied looking at her, catching her gaze. She stared at me for a minute then blinked and looked away. Vampire charm. Gotta love it.

“So why are you out here?” she asked.

“I went for a walk and found you here,” I replied, looking away as well.

“And that’s how you spend your Saturdays? Wouldn’t a guy like you be on a date or something? With all the attention you get from the girls at our school,” she replied. I looked down at her and smirked.

“Nah. Those girls are just annoying rich girls who depend on daddy for everything they want,” I replied, her looking at me,” Now that you mention it, you’re probably the first in the school who hasn’t fallen for me. Other than my sister of course,” I added smirking at her. She was quiet for a minute then frowned.

“Geez, you’re full of it,” she said looking off somewhere again. I almost fell over.

“No, no, I’m not like that,” I said in defense, waving my hands around infront of me.

“You seem like it,” she replied. I frowned and stared at her. So much for vampire charm. She started laughing a little and I raised an eyebrow,” Those girls follow you around all day and talk about you like crazy but you don’t pay any attention to them,” she said. I smiled a bit and opened up the umbrella again, covering both of us with it. Right after it started pouring a lot harder than it was. Araya looked out at the rain then at me. I smiled back and she looked away, standing up. I followed her up, moving the umbrella back over her head.

“Would you stop that? I’m fine,” she said in an annoyed tone.

“You’ll get sick,” I replied, still smiling. However, she was already walking away. I smirked and followed after her, the umbrella still open but at my side,” Are you going home now?”

“What are you, a stalker now?”

“Eh…no, just wondering,” I replied, closing the umbrella. She sighed and continued walking. I wondered what was bothering her. It wasn’t just me I could tell. Maybe the thing that was bothering her was the reason for her being out in the park.

“How did you walk away from getting hit by a car like that?” she asked. I looked down at her a bit surprised. I’d thought she had left before I got hit. I rubbed the back of my head.

“Oh, so you did see that? I donno, guess I just got lucky,” I replied.

“I didn’t see much of it. After I walked off people were yelling and screaming so I rushed over and saw you getting up with everyone around you,” she replied in her normal casual tone.

“Oh,” I said, looking infront of us, the smile vanishing from my face. A few minutes later the rain started letting up so it was only sprinkling. She stopped causing me to nearly fall over because I was so lost in my thoughts. I looked to her confused but my forehead met her hand. She pushed some of my hair back and frowned. I didn’t move and watched her blankly. I smiled a second later and she looked at me rather then my head.

“I could’ve sworn you were bleeding after getting hit,” she said then put her hand back at her side. I didn’t say anything while she continued to stare at me with that unsatisfied frown,” And your eyes were a golden yellow color at school…now they’re green,” she added. I smirked and turned a bit.

“I have contacts,” I replied simply. I already had that planned since she had seen the difference in my eye color,” And I do have a cut, just not where you looked. That or I’m a fast healer?” I said smiling

slyly. It turned into a staring contest again and she finally looked away, starting to walk off again.

“Whatever…” she mumbled under her breath and I followed after her. I could tell she was still curious and suspicious at that. But she didn’t say anything. I walked beside her and looked over at her. Being so close to her…and the scent isn’t bothering me enough for me to notice…how weird. I thought looking away.

“So, you were born in America?” I asked after a few minutes of silence. I honestly couldn’t take that much silence at the time. This was my pathetic attempt to start a conversation.

“Yeah,” she replied,” What about you? You don’t look completely American. No offence or anything.”

“None taken. I’m half Japanese,” I replied looking over at her again. She was looking at me as well, kind of surprised looking.

“Really? That’s so cool,” she replied,” Do you still go back there?” she asked. Well, truth is I can go back whenever I want…

“Not lately,” I answered,” I don’t really have any family over there. Except my mom….but she passed away a few years ago and I came over to America,” I explained smiling softly. She frowned and looked a bit saddened.

“I’m sorry for bringing it up…” she replied looking back to the sidewalk infront of us.

“No, it’s ok. I like remembering her,” I replied looking back to the sidewalk. I could feel the warm smile on my face, the one that only came up when I talked about my mother. She was one of the best mothers you could ask for, never too judging, never violent, protective, and always warm. I felt Araya’s gaze on me and I looked up at her and smiled sheepishly,” Sorry, I get lost in my thoughts too easily,” I said rubbing the back of my head. She smiled, probably the nicest she had to me so far and it kinda threw me off. I knew back in school she was always using fake smiles. It was easy to tell.

“What about your dad?” she asked, her tone gaining its edge again. Weird. I frowned this time.

“I don’t know. He left me and my mom about two years after I was born,” I answered looking up at the sky. It was getting a little bit brighter, the rainstorm moving on.

“Oh….” She replied quietly. We stayed silent for a few more minutes again while we let the somewhat touchy subject die until she thought of something else,” So, what about your sister?” she asked. Damn. With everything I had just told her Azami didn’t fit into it.

“Well you see I’m not a blood relative of the family I’m with now. I was adopted by Azami’s dad, Kinta. So she’s my step sister,” I replied. Of course it was a lie, well, partially anyways. It did seem like I was “adopted” by Kinta. But Azami wasn’t his daughter.

“Oh, I see. So you live with her and her father. What about her mother?” she asked next. This girl knew just the questions to make it easier to reveal that I wasn’t human.

“Her mother and father divorced,” I replied,” It’s all quite complicated,” I added. She simply nodded and looked away from me again. I was trying to get everything sorted out in my head still. So basically my story was that I had been born in Japan, my father left me and my mother, my mother died a while later when we were still living in Japan. Which was all true.

So now Azami was my step sister who was the daughter of Kinta who was divorced who had adopted me after I had come to America. The lies came in when I said that I came to America after my mother died. I had really gone to England where Kinta and Azami found me. After England we lived in Italy then came to America. Still Luke didn’t fit into the whole fake family. No one knew about him so it wasn’t much of a problem…Hell, I didn’t know too much about him and I lived with him.

“What about your family?” I asked her. Araya stayed quiet for a minute and tensed a bit.

“Normal,” she replied simply. Normal? What did that mean exactly?

“Like normal as in…mother, father, kids?”

“Yeah, I’m an only child though,” she answered quietly. Now I was confused. Her family seemed like a painful subject to talk about.

“Oh, ok. That’s cool,” I replied, trying not to push her into talking about it if it bothered her. We stayed quiet yet again until she stopped. I looked at her questioningly then looked to the left where she was facing, seeing her house probably.

“This is where you live?” I asked smiling. She nodded.

“See ya at school,” she said and walked up to her porch. I watched her and she went in after waving a bit. After she disappeared into the house I heard something smash from inside and a light to an upstairs room flashed on soon after. I lingered outside for a second before walking off. I looked up at the sky. The rain had stopped completely but the sky was still dark and gray clouds were still around. Looked like the sun wouldn’t be coming out today.

Yay, well that’s chapter 3. I want to thank one of my friends for creating Araya and another one of my friends for helping me with some ideas for this story. So thanks you weirdos!! But yea…chapter four might be up soon depending on what we have planned for this week. But keep a look out anyways! And if you’re still reading this give me a review on what you think about it!
