She watches him bent over his latest work in progress. The tools rattle out a gentle rhythm to match the pitter patter of rain on the deck; from the beginnings of a storm she had explicitly told him was coming. When she shows up later with a rain coat, he sheepishly allows her to lead him back inside, admitting he was wrong.

Occasionally she falls asleep in his arms as they watch the stars pass overhead. He continues to enthusiastically explain the legends of the constellations to her, even as her head begins to drop. His stories, no matter how ridiculous, always make her feel safe.

She eventually found him sitting alone in the mini merry, obviously deeply involved in an internal monologue. Nami asks if he misses her, and Usopp answers her honestly. Even though he loves Nami, Kaya's fragile smile lingers as a guilty thought at the back of his mind, and he's terrified of breaking it.

She's hurt when he fails to acknowledge his own strengths. When he voices his insecurities, she angrily reminds him that it's him she fell in love with. Not Zoro, not Luffy, not Sanji, but Usopp. The sharpshooter, the inventor, and brave warrior of the sea.

She's barely slept since he left. The rare occasions that she slips into dreams, she's haunted by excruciating nightmares. For that reason, she's bought a twenty pack of caffeine pills and a thick novel, attempting to ward off sleep and all thoughts of the real world. She stubbornly refuses to accept the idea that he might not be coming back and cries into Choppers arms while he howls back in a similar manner.
