CHAPTER 1

OoooooooO

My brother, Daegon walked beside me as we trudged along the path to father’s temple. He seemed to be a bit grumpy. I laughed inwardly as I remembered why he looked so annoyed. It was funny how he could get so worked up about something so petty.

We stopped as we reached the door. I sighed and knocked.

“Come in.” I heard my father’s voice say. I opened the door and let both me and my brother in.

“Father, what’s this all ab-,” I stopped abruptly as I inhaled the most intoxicating scent I have ever smelled. I gasped for breath. Then, a few moments later, everything went black.

I opened my eyes as I awoke from my sleep. I couldn’t see anything. I felt as if I had drunk two gallons of father’s strongest wine. I leaned on the wall in front of me for support. Apparently, that was a bad idea. It collapsed under my weight and I was thrown to the floor. Before I could even let out a stream of profanities, I heard a deep voice call my name.

“Taven! It is good to see you have finally awakened. Do not worry; your strength will come back soon.” I stood up and looked to the direction of the voice. It was Orin. He was as yellow and as large as he had always been.

“Orin?” I asked groggily. “What happened?”

“You were encased in stone, to protect you from harm until I receive the signal to awaken you. You are no longer in Edenia, Taven. You are in Earthrealm.” I looked at him quizzically.

“I don’t understand.” I said. Those were the perfect words that described how I felt. I was confused. “Why am I in Earthrealm?”

“Your father has a very important task here for you. Your brother, Daegon will also be participating. It is a competition between the two of you, from what I understand.” He replied.

“Competition?” I paced around the room. “Last thing I remember, Daegon and I were summoned into father’s throne room and…”

“And you were both rendered unconscious.” Orin finished for me. “I do not know the details of this quest. I was only charged with hiding you in Earthrealm and awakening you when the time came. That time is now Taven.” I looked at him incredulously. I then shook my head.

“No.” I said. “This is all too strange. Where is my father? I wish to speak with him.” I demanded. This was all too weird. I was knocked unconscious, then I wake up with Orin as my babysitter.

“I will send you to his temple. Look for the main chamber and place your hand on the altar. Your father will speak to you there and present you with a weapon to use for the quest. No doubt your brother has been awakened by Caro and will be sent there shortly.”

“Another competition?” I said absent-mindedly. “Do I have to kill my brother?” I shuddered at the thought. “Why would I need a weapon?” I sighed then looked up. “Well since this is a race, I guess I should get going.” Orin stared at me as I continued my mumbling. “Well? What are you waiting for? Lead the way, Orin.” As I was stepping into the portal, I heard him mutter something.

“Annoying little godling. Always bossing me around.” He grumbled. I laughed aloud at that.
