Disclaimer: Don’t own Princess Diaries or Prince Caspian

Chapter 1

A few years had passed since Mia had been told she was the princess of the tiny Genovian province between France and Spain. Even now that she was a freshman in college she still found it hard to believe she was a princess. She was tall and gangly with pitch black frizzy hair that the stylist Paolo constantly tried to tame.

She was struggling in her classes, her friends from high school were going to completely different schools than her. The few friends Mia had managed to make were only her friends because they knew she was a princess. And worst of all Michael had broken her heart by cheating on her with another girl. Mia had loved him and had never saw it coming.

Mia kicked a loose stone with the toe of her hiking boot and sighed. Life really was unfair. Clarisse recommended she go on a hiking trip through the Smoky Mountains with Joe as company to help clear her head. ‘A princess must always hold herself with dignity and confidence no matter how much she may be suffering within.’ That was what Clarisse said but she didn’t buy it. How could she pretend as if nothing were wrong when everything around her was falling apart?

She plopped down onto a boulder and rested her chin on her knees. Her mother’s mother Susan passed away a few months before. Mia missed her grandmother terribly. She had lived in England so it was rare for Mia to visit her. She was a kind woman and when Mia was a child she would often tell her fairytale stories about how her sister and brothers and her went to a place called Narnia. Out of all the stories she liked the one about Prince Caspian best. He sounded like a courageous and valiant man, a true prince at heart. Mia hoped she would find a prince like that someday and considering she was a princess she would likely end up with a prince. She thought ruefully with a slightly bitter smile. Whether he would be noble and chivalrous was up for debate. It was rare to find good men in these modern times.

Unbeknownst to Mia the whole time she was musing over her past memories a copperhead snake had wound its sinuous form around her ankles and was halfway up her calf. A light tickle on her leg snapped her out of her daze. She glanced down and screamed and did what was possibly the most stupid thing a person could do. She scrambled backwards but in her haste stepped on the snake’s tail. The copperhead hissed and its head reared back, fangs gleaming ominously in the sun. That was all she saw before the fangs sank into her leg and she felt searing pain course through her body.

Panicking, Mia grabbed the snake and attempted to pry it off, knowing every second the fangs were in her lethal poison was being pumped into her blood stream. As it was even if the snake was removed she had no chance of survival. Joe and her were too far up the mountain and there was no hospital around. On top of camp was about a twenty minute walk and there was no way she would make it.

This was it, there was no one here to rescue her. She was on her own.

The snake finally relented and retracted its fangs and slithered away into the bushes after the irreparable damage was done. Mia’s heart beat erratically and threatened to burst out of her chest. Sweat poured down her skin and it was becoming increasingly more difficult to breathe. Mia crawled across the rocky ground until she reached the shade of a tree. Rather foolish for someone who was about to die, but people who are dying do not tend to think logically. Her hand fumbled clumsily down her shirt until she grasped the necklace her grandmother Susan had given her.

She extracted the pendant and dangled the pendant above her head so she could see it. It was a sapphire wrought with silver delicate filigree. The pendant was almost Celtic in design. Her grandmother told her it was a gift from Prince Caspian to remember him by when she returned to this world. If only Narnia were real. Mia would give anything to go there. She didn’t want to die.

Her vision slowly began to darken. So, this was what dying was like. Mia thought faintly as her arm fell limply to her side and the breath left her body.

OoO

The sun was shining brightly and there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky. A gentle breeze blew through his dark locks, but Caspian barely noticed it. His eyes were trained on the task before him. The Narnian Castle was being rebuilt through the efforts of both his people and the native Narnians. The building was almost completely erect now.

It was hard to believe five years had passed since his uncle was dethroned and Caspian made peace with the Narnians and joined the two nations together. It had also been five years since he had last seen her. Queen Susan the Fair. Her fierce blue eyes and lovely dark hair, her ivory skin, everything about her he had loved and still loved. Caspian knew Susan would not return. He knew that he was being foolish holding onto a child’s hope.

A centaur galloped up to Caspian a serene expression on his face. “Your majesty, the west wing is almost complete.”

Caspian beamed at the centaur and clapped him on the back. “Thank you, Sir Valiant your progress is something to be commended. I think we should stop for the day and continue tomorrow. Everyone could use the time to relax and enjoy themselves. In fact, I will see to it that a feast is prepared for tonight.”

Valiant bowed deeply. “We are honored by your thoughtfulness, majesty. I will go and inform the others immediately.”

Whistling cheerfully, Caspian jogged down the rocky hillside and headed down toward the beach where the camp was set up. He passed a few jaguars on the pass and nodded to them.

The white beach seemed to stretch on for miles and the blue-green water gleamed invitingly. Perhaps, he would go for a swim after notifying the cooks.

However, things don’t always turn out as planned as Caspian soon learned.

Several urgent shouts drew his attention as Caspian drew nearer to the tents. He quickly broke into a run with his hand firmly on the hilt of High King Peter’s sword. Caspian prayed they were not under attack.

OoO

Mia’s eyelids slowly fluttered open. She rolled onto her side with a groan. The ground was awfully mushy and wet. Wait wet? Her eyes shot open and she saw she way lying on the edge of the beach. Mia sat up and felt the gentle lapping of water. She looked around wildly and noticed she was on some sort of island. A vast sea of tents stretched off in one direction.

Mia was immensely confused. Wasn’t she supposed to be dead? She pinched her arm, twisting the skin and winced. No, she was most definitely alive. The question was how. Maybe the inhabitants of the tents would have some answers for Mia. Setting her mouth in a thin straight line she scrambled to her feet and marched off in that direction.

She wasn’t halfway there when strange looking half-human half-horse creatures and men shouted something she couldn’t make out. Mia gulped when all of them drew their swords and filed in around her. “Toto, we’re definitely not in Kansas anymore.”

"Who are you? Speak quickly." One of the horsemen demanded in a gruff voice.

She flinched at his harsh tone. Damn this was not a good situation at all. This was worse then any of the times Lana Weinberger had picked on her in high school. Wait. Why was Mia worried? She had been taking Jujitsu ever since she learned she was a princess so she would be able to defend herself. Jujitsu not only included the usual martial arts stuff but sword techniques as well.

“There’s something familiar about this woman.” Another of the creatures commented idly.

The first ignored him and pointed the tip of his blade at her throat. “Well?”

Mia laughed anxiously and carefully pushed the blade away from her. “I’m Mia Thermopolis. I’m from San Francisco, California.”

Instead of making things better telling them that only seemed to make them much worse.

“I do not know of this California place.”

“I think she is lying and is a spy.”

“We should take her back and have the King deal with her.”

A chorus of Ayes filled the air and one of the men seized her by the arm.

Mia was frightened and did the first thing that came to mind. She twisted his wrist and spun him around and pinned his arm behind his back. The man grunted in pain and dropped his sword.

The others looked at each other before three of them rushed her. Great. Just absolutely wonderful. Mia dove for the defeated man’s sword and swung it around in time to block an on coming attack from a burly horseman. She ducked and dodged, punched and kicked, all the while trying to avoid killing any of them. It would just be bad public relations if she did.

All of the people both horsemen and humans were laying on the sand moaning in agony and holding various parts of their bodies.

Mia wiped her sweaty brow with the back of her hand and placed her hands on her knees trying to catch her breath. That had been the most she had ever used her martial arts in, well ever. She was completely fatigued.

“You there, halt!” Someone shouted behind her.

Mia picked up the fallen sword and somehow mustered enough strength to whirl around and swing blindly at the unknown attacker. The man ducked to the side and broke through her guard and parried her blade. The sword flew from her hands and landed on the sand with a thud.

She gaped at the man in awe. Like all the men he wore medieval livery but his clothing were more elegant than that of the others. He was broad of shoulder and she could see his muscles rippling underneath his sleeves as he tightened the grip on his sword. His dark hair was shaggy and tousled from the wind. His chocolate eyes were filled with stormy anger as they swept over the fallen men. Overall he was gorgeous.

“Uh, hello.”

The man’s attention snapped to Mia but then the anger in his eyes faded and was replaced by confusion and hopefulness. He sheathed his sword and seized her in a fierce hug, enveloping her in his strong arms. “Susan, I have longed to see you for so long. I had no hope of you ever returning here.”

Mia shuffled her feet and patted him awkwardly on the back, fighting back a blush at their close proximity. “No, my name is Mia Thermopolis not Susan.”

The handsome young man stiffened and then held her at arm’s length inspecting her closely. “You have to be her. You couldn’t possibly be someone else.” He sounded almost desperate and unsure of himself.

“Why couldn’t I be someone else?” Mia retorted.

He caught the pedant dangling around her neck between two of his fingers and held it up. “Because I was the one who gave this to Susan. I would recognize this pendant anywhere.”

Mia was thunderstruck. If what he said was true then that would mean…. “Y-you say you gave this to Susan….T-then are you…Caspian?”

“Yes, I am your majesty. Do you now remember me?”

Mia shook her head and backed away from him. She couldn’t believe this was happening. Everything her grandmother told her about Narnia and Caspian….Could it all have been true? Could Narnia and her grandmother’s handsome prince really be real?

“Susan, are you ill?” Caspian asked in concern.

“No, no, I told you my name is not Susan for the last time.” Mia snapped, both scared and angry. “I am Mia Thermopolis. Susan, if we are talking about the same Susan was my grandmother.”

Well, after watching the Prince Caspian movie I was inspired to write this fic. I know this is an odd crossover but I decided it would make for an interesting story. For those of you who have read my other stories, the chapters for this won't be as long because I don't honestly want them to be.

Some of the stuff will be altered and will be based more on the Princess Diaries movie and Prince Caspian movie rather than the books. For example, Mia has black hair rather than her brown hair in the movie and I decided it would interesting if she was Susan's granddaughter. Please review.
