Bella’s Point of View: Sleep

I was dying.

I could feel my strength pulling away with every breath that I took.

“Edward?”

The shadow in the corner looked up and pain only made its face more god-like than when it was smiling.

“Yes, love?”

“Would you mind getting Carlisle?”

Realization flashed across his face before he could hide it.

“It’s nothing, Edward. I just need to talk to him,” I sighed, letting the lie convince me that it was truly nothing. It didn’t convince him.

Edward took my hands in his and stared at me with those pain-filled, golden eyes. It broke my heart and my words came out as sobs. My vision blurred as he held me in his arms.

“I’m … s-so afraid … Edward,” I barely choked out.

“So am I, Bella.”

And that was it. There was no pain after all.

It was time.

“Edward?”

“Yes, Bella?”

“Edward?!”

He clenched his fists and tearless sobs came out from him.

“… Bella?”

“I love you.”

The last thing I saw was his face before I faded into the dark.
