The Captain's Rapture

Brazil, Millennium's secret base

The Captain approached the high table and knelt on one knee before his master. He respectfully took off his hat and placed it beside him.

"Thank you Captain. Ve vere vaiting for you." a female voice said. The Captain didn't look up, he knew exactly who that was. A woman in black clothing approached him. She carried an old fashion musket in her left hand. Her teeth were filed down to sharp points. This was the Huntress, Rip Van Winkle.

"Herr Major I am here!!" a cheerful voice called. The Captain didn't bother to look up at the sound of the voice. There could be only one person who could be that happy in the Millennium. Junior warrant officer Schrodinger ran into the room panting heavily. He gave the Major a firm salute and smiled.

'Eager as always eh Schrodinger?' the Captain thought to himself with a small smile. Though no one could see it through his coat collar. He preferred it remain that way. An emotionless soldier was a perfect soldier.

"Hello mein Captain!!" Schrodinger said jumping onto his back. The Captain grunted but remained where he was, he would not move until the Major ordered it.

"You may stand up now Captain Hans." the Major said clasping his hands together. The Captain stood up at his full six foot five height and nodded. Schrodinger still clung to his back like a baby opossum would to it's mother. The Captain rolled his eyes when he noticed his hat was missing. Schrodinger probably took it again.

"Hans. Do you know why you were called here?" the Major asked him.

The Captain shook his head slowly.

"We are concerned. In almost seventy years of service you have never taken a vacation." the Major said.

The Captain frowned. Why would he need a vacation? He was perfectly fine doing his job without question. A soldier without rest was a soldier without laziness.

"I have never needed a vacation." the Captain replied.

The Major and Rip looked up in surprise. The Captain rarely ever spoke before.

"The therapist says otherwise." the Major said regaining his composure.

"Really? What does Herr Doktor say?" the Captain asked.

"Old friend. Your body is on the verge of collapse. When was the last time you slept?" the Major asked.

The Captain paused for a moment.

"Two weeks ago Herr Major." the Captain said.

"Two weeks? My God man. You need sleep." the Major said rising from his chair.

Schrodinger decided to appear in front of the Captainat that moment. The Captain pulled out his gun on pure instinct and fired one shot. Schrodinger fell to the ground lifeless and re-appeared a moment later with an annoyed look on his face.

"That wasn't very nice mein Captain." he said tapping his foot.

"Sorry. I-It must be my nerves." the Captain said shakily.

"Old friend. Get some sleep. Then take a vacation." the Major said.

"Yes Herr Major!!" the Captain said with a salute.

"You may leave us Hans." the Major said.

The Captain took his hat and left the room.

As soon as he entered the room he saw a letter on his bed. Ripping it open he read the letter.

Dear Captain Hans

Is not every man entitled to the sweat on his brow?

NO!! Says the man in Washington, it belongs to the Government.

NO!! Says the man in the Vatican, it belongs to God.

NO!! Says the man in the Soviet Union, it belongs to everyone.

I however chose a different path. I chose Rapture. A place where every man may reap his rewards and live by the fruit of his work.
