Just another idea I had in my head! You know me with my one shots! They are all just for fun. : )
Disclaimer: Not mine.
Pick Me Up
There I was, seated at the table with my two best friends, watching them slither provocatively and meld themselves to their boyfriends, completely unaware of my presence.
It wasn’t the first time that I was deemed the fifth wheel. In fact, since they had met them last month, Alice and Rosalie pretty much brought their boyfriends with them everywhere. It wasn’t that I didn’t like Jasper and Emmett, in fact, quite the contrary. But it was never any fun to sit by yourself at a table while the rest of the occupants sucked each other’s faces off.
Ripping my gaze away from them, I took a sip of wine, looking around the crowded nightclub.
I curled my lip in disgust. All I could see were writhing, twisting, and sweaty bodies grinding against each other for their own perverse entertainment. It wasn’t that I was cynical, and I certainly wasn’t cold blooded when it came to attractive men, but the whole club scene just wasn’t my thing.
“Bellaaa.” I heard Alice’s voice. She was perched on Japer’s lap, pouting in my direction. “You don’t look like you’re having any fun.”
I smirked, raising both eyebrows. “I’m surprised you even noticed, you were busy last time I looked over.”
Jasper grinned at me. “We had to come up for air sometime.”
Alice elbowed him in the stomach, but he just laughed and reached across the table for some pretzels. “But Alice is right,” he continued. “You look bored.”
I sighed, not wanting to lie. “I am a little, I mean, I really don’t fit in here. I don’t drink much, I hate techno music, and we all know I can’t dance.” I frowned. “Maybe I should just go home.”
I heard a smacking sound, and Rosalie resurfaced, a scowl on her lips. “Bella Swan, you aren’t going anywhere. It’s Saturday and you are twenty two years old. You look great, and it’s only 9:30 for gods sakes!”
“She’s right, the night is young!” added Emmett, nuzzling his face in Rosalie’s neck. He looked up a moment later, his eyes twinkling. “In fact, let’s liven things up a little.”
I rolled my eyes, expecting the start of another make out session. But instead, he got up and walked towards the bar, slapping his fist on the counter. I watched him bend down to talk to the bartender, and a moment later he was heading back towards the table.
“What was that?” asked Rosalie, getting up and sitting back down on his lap.
“Just ordered some shots,” he smirked. “Bella isn’t having fun yet, so I figured we could play a little game.”
“I am not taking shots,” I said seriously, my eyes sharp.

I cringed as the hot liquid burned its way down my esophagus. You would think after my third one that I wouldn’t really notice it anymore. I wasn’t drunk, but I was feeling good, and definitely much looser than I had felt earlier in the night.
“So Bella,” said Jasper casually, “You know my friend Mike from work…”
Uh oh. I knew where this going. And the awkward way Alice was avoiding my eyes confirmed it.
“Jasper, I am not going out with Mike. No more blind dates.” I gave him an evil stare, and crossed my arms, feeling a little dizzy.
“C’mon Bella,” he frowned, leaning his elbows on the table. “Give him a chance. You might like him. You’re just saying no because of what happened with Tyler.”
“Of course I am!” I laughed, slapping my palms on the table. “We got in a car accident on the way to the theatre! I almost died!”
Emmett and Rosalie burst into laughter. The story of my disastrous blind date with Tyler never got old. It happened a few weeks ago, so it was now a distant memory that even I found humorous.
“Seriously, you don’t have to set me up.” I said, trying to smile.
He shrugged, and then bent down, whispering something soft in Alice’s ear, making her giggle. I looked over at Rosalie, her face glowing as Emmett nipped tenderly at her neck. Sighing, I downed one last shot, and sunk lower in my chair.
It couldn’t have been three minutes later that I suddenly became sick and tired of it all. Whether it was the alcohol, the blind date conversation, or just the overwhelming sense of loneliness I felt, my lack of a love life was finally getting to me. It had never bothered me much before; I figured it would happen when it happened and left it at that.
But was sitting back and waiting such a good idea?
Maybe I was wrong. Maybe I should go out and find it myself, be more…proactive about the whole thing.
But the burst of confidence was short lived as I took in my options. There was no one here at this nightclub I would be remotely interested in dating.
I sulked further in my seat, once again trying to keep my eyes off my two best friends.

“Bella sure doesn’t look bored now!” Emmett yelled.
It was two hours later, and with a relaxed grin, I realized he was right. We had just come off the floor, where even I had attempted some dancing. I probably looked like a fool, but I was too happy to care. We all plopped down at the table, laughing at different things and joking around.
Just as I saw Emmett lean down to kiss Rosalie, I stood up, knocking my chair back with such force it fell to the floor.
“That’s it!” I yelled, shaking my head. “That’s it! I’m finding a guy!”
Jasper and Emmett cat called while Alice and Rosalie’s mouth’s dropped open.
“Here?!” Alice squeaked nervously, looking around at all the sloppy and groping men that surrounded us. “Are you sure that’s a good idea Bella?”
“Alice,” I said, walking over to her. “Don’t be silly, I’m not looking for a relationship. I just want to have some fun for once in my boring life.”
I sighed and spun in a drunken circle, high on adrenaline, making Rosalie laugh and slap me a high five. Alice was staring at me in confusion, obviously surprised at me unprecedented outburst.
I saw Jasper and Emmett exchange a look. “Well if you’re not looking for anything serious.” said Emmett. “Care to make things a little interesting Bella, dear?”
We all turned to look at the boys. “What do you mean?” Alice asked.
“I will give you twenty bucks if you go up to some guy – you’re choice – and use the worst, cheesiest, most awful pick up line that you can think of,” said Emmett, leaning back and crossing his arms. “I dare you.”
I bit my lip, scanning the crowd, wondering if I could actually embarrass myself that way. But I realized that all the patrons in this club probably were used to such degrading and ridiculous things, so I figured why the hell not, what do I honestly have to lose?
“Deal,” I beamed, causing both Alice and Rosalie to clap and cheer enthusiastically. I shook Emmett’s hand once to make it official and backed away from the table. Now all that was left was finding the lucky guy.
I slowly walked around the room, feeling my friends’ eyes on my back. Looking to the left by the bar, I saw an older man, probably mid thirties, eyeing me seductively. Yuck. Too old. There were so many guys around, and I forced myself to just pick one and get it over with.
I walked towards the corner, where there was a little more space, and leaned against the wall by a couch. Peering out of the corner of my eye, I saw a boy, probably about the same age as me, sitting on it and watching the crowd of dancers. I couldn’t really see his face, but he had interesting colored hair, so I figured he would do.
With a deep breath, I looked once back toward my friends, indicating that I had chosen him. I couldn’t see the boys, but Rosalie flashed me the thumbs up sign, and Alice, for some reason was grinning.
With careful steps, I walked around his knees and sat down closely beside him. My bare leg rubbed against his jean clad one, and he turned to look at me. My face must have been bright red.
Once I saw him fully, I was struck momentarily by how handsome he actually was. I faltered. Realizing I was now going to completely embarrass myself in front of this handsome stranger, I was even more anxious to get the whole thing over with.
“You owe me a drink,” I said, with as much steel behind my voice as I could muster.
He blinked once, regarding me curiously. “I do?”
“Yes,” I nodded. “Because I looked at you and dropped mine.”
Both his eyebrows shot to his forehead as he stared back at me and I felt him stiffen. But I kept his gaze, my eyes steady as I fought to the urge to either bolt or completely burst out laughing. He was silent, and I figure out his emotion. Maybe he hadn’t heard me?
After an awkward pause, I felt his hand come and rest securely on my shoulder. “Are you lost?” he asked.
I sucked in a breath at his frightened expression. Oh god. He thinks I’m some deranged psycho. This handsome man is actually worried for my sanity. Deciding that I couldn’t possibly be any more mortified, I placed my hands on the edge of the couch to try and get up and escape.
“Because heaven is a long way from here.”
I stopped short, and my eyes widened as I slowly turned to look back at him. I was still seated on the edge of the couch, my fingers gripping the material as his words sunk into my brain. Seconds passed, and as a slow grin spread across his face, I realized in shock that he was playing along.
His hand dropped off my shoulder, and he leaned back against the couch with a ‘your move’ expression on his face. I took in the rest of him. He was wearing a black button down shirt and jeans, and his oddly colored hair was in messy disarray atop his head. But it was his eyes that caught my attention.
Gathering all my bravery, I titled my head to the side. “Oh wait, you’ve got something in your eye, hold on.”
I reached over him, brushing my fingertip quickly under his left eye. “Never mind, it was just a sparkle.”
He bit back a grin, but then his face suddenly became really serious.
I stiffened next to him, suddenly on alert, wondering what had went wrong.
“What time is it?” he asked hurriedly, grabbing at his wrist. He groaned and ran his hands through his hair when he realized he didn’t have a watch on. He looked toward me, pleading.
“Oh umm,” I stammered, jolting into action. I turned the watch on my wrist. “It’s 11:41.”
He smiled, relaxing. “Thanks. I just wanted to remember the exact moment that I met you.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at that one. But I quickly recovered and leaned in toward him.
“Wow, you tricked me. But I’m not drunk, I’m just intoxicated by you.”
He cringed, shaking his head at the utter cheesiness at what I had just said. We both broke into laughter and fell back against the couch.
“So what’s your name?” he asked.
I frowned mockingly. “C’mon, you can do better than that,” I teased.
“Sorry, I’m not really the pick up line type.” He shot me an accusing stare and raised a brow.
I groaned. “Sorry.” I pointed over to my friends. “It was a dare. You’ll be happy to know that I just won twenty bucks for assaulting you with that lame line.”
“Congratulations,” he chuckled. “Why did you pick me?”
I shrugged, trying to hide a smile. “To be honest, you were the least creepy guy in the vicinity.”
He barked out a laugh. “Oh thanks! That was definitely you’re best line yet,” he said sarcastically, nudging me with his shoulder.
We both laughed and then he suddenly smiled. “Do you have a quarter?”
“No,” I grinned, crossing my arms, waiting for his latest.
“Oh, because I wanted to call my mom and tell her the most beautiful girl in the room danced with me tonight.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me up with a smoldering grin.
I sputtered for a second before shaking my head. “Er, sorry. I can’t dance.”
He smiled, a crooked smile that I couldn’t help but stare at. “I know.” he said. “I saw you earlier.”
Scoffing, I ripped my hand away. But I knew he could see the laughter in my eyes. “Then why do you want to dance with me!?” I poked his chest.
He shrugged and bit his lip, staring at me playfully. In that moment, he looked so hot that there was no way that I could refuse him. I pursed my lips, and placed my hand in his without a word. He led me to a clear spot on the dance floor and put his hands on my waist, pulling me up against him. I gasped slightly as our bodies came in full contact.
“Sorry.” He grinned devilishly. “You with all those curves, and me with no brakes.”
I swatted his chest, pretended to be offended. But he just smiled at me and we both began to move with the beat of the music. He was an incredible dancer, and I felt as if my veins were going to burst with how hot and fast my blood was flowing.
Every time I would look up, he would be staring at me, but I was too shy too keep his gaze for long. So I just kept dancing as he held me, our bodies tight together. His body was solid, like a rock, and I resisted the desire to run my hands over his arms, which I had a feeling were deliciously in shape.
I felt as if I was lost in the music. Lost in the beating pulse of the song and the closeness of this beautiful stranger. My mind was going in all directions, but all there was, was me and him, dancing together.
After about three songs, I felt his breath against my ear. “You’re lips look lonely. Do they want to meet mine?”
My heart skipped a beat and I looked up at him, my eyes immediately drawn to his mouth. Before I could think about what I was doing, I stood on my tip toes and pressed my lips against his.
A zing of electricity shot through my arms and wrangled my senses. I could feel that he was surprised for a moment, but it didn’t take him long to react. His hold on me became gentle and he angled his head to the side.
But the second that he increased the pressure, I tore myself away from him.
What was I doing? I didn’t even know this guy?! I had never been the type to just make out with random strangers that I pick up – literally in this case – in bars. Even if he was extremely good looking, this was just not me. I was turning into one of those girls and I freaked out.
I stared at him as if I couldn’t actually believe what had just happened. He was confused, and it looked as if he were about to apologize. But before he could get the words out, I mumbled a quick goodbye and began weaving away from him through the crowd, back to the table. I had completely forgotten my friends in the past half hour.
Once I came into view, Alice and Rosalie both visibly brightened.
“Bella!” Alice chirped, her voice excited.
“I’m so proud of you! God he was hot, you sure know how to pick them!” grinned Rosalie, standing up.
“I want to leave.” I said, grabbing her hand and pulling her away from the table. I looked over my shoulder and saw that the guy was actually following me. So I pulled her hand harder, completely embarrassed at what had just happened.
They both followed me as I practically ran to the front door.
I didn’t look back once.

I grabbed a coke from the fridge and leaned back against the counter. It was Jasper’s 23rd birthday and he was having a few friends over to celebrate. I didn’t know too many people since Jasper and Emmett went to a different school, but so far it hadn’t been too bad. Alice was sure having fun. I glanced over at the two of them and smiled.
Walking out of the kitchen, I took a long sip of coke and sat down on the only empty couch. Rosalie, Emmett, and few others were laughing across the room, and just as I was about to change positions and join them, someone plopped down next to me.
“Hey Bella.”
Surprised that someone knew my name, I looked up in confusion. My jaw dropped open as my eyes met with startling green ones. The eyes of the beautiful stranger from the bar last week.
I had no idea what to say. I felt like I was frozen in place. But I managed to stutter, “How did you know my name?”
He grinned. “You mean, all beautiful girls aren’t named Bella?”
I let out a breath of air and shook my head, surprised at the familiarity of his teasing voice. I couldn’t believe he was here, sitting next to me on yet another couch, feeding me lines. What was he even doing here?
I voiced my thoughts and he looked down, a little shyly.
“Well, you were already gone when I reached your table. You had run off with your friends toward the door.”
I blushed, looking down.
He continued. “But Jasper and Emmett were still there. They are in a few classes of mine at school, and we talked a little, said hello, and they told me your name. When I saw them on campus Wednesday, Jasper invited me here.”
“I’m so sorry about that,” I said sheepishly. “I just…I’m not…”
He cut me off. “It’s okay. I understand. The whole thing was sort of strange.”
I nodded. Truth was, I had been thinking about him all week and I knew I had reacted too hastily. But now that he was sitting before me, I had no idea what to say. He must have been feeling the same way, because we both just stared at each other.
He was first to laugh, and it didn’t take long until I joined him. We just laughed at the complete absurdity of it all, and the tension eased.
I knew my friends were staring at us, and when I looked over, Jasper looked smug.
But I didn’t care, because I felt a rush of happiness as I looked back at the handsome, charming boy, green eyed boy sitting next to me.
He was smiling and he thrust a hand in my direction. “Let’s start over. No pick up lines this time.”
I laughed and shook his hand. “Okay.” I composed my face and stood up straight. “Hello, I’m Bella, it’s nice to meet you.”
He kissed the back of my hand. “I’m Edward.”
Yay! Review : )
