Title: Into the Light
Title: Into the Light
Rating: PG-13 for now, possibly R in later chapters.
Pairings: YamatoxKen, TakeruxHikari, TaichixSora.
Summary: Yamato and Ken have been receiving calls from the Dark World. Hikari has gone missing, and being the only two able to travel to the Dark World, they go in search of her. Yamato and Ken centric, Hikari doesn’t play a huge role except staying as the series’ favorite Plot Device.
Warnings/Notes: The only things I can think of to put here are that you needed to have seen the 3 or 4 episodes dealing with the Dark Ocean (or in Yamato’s case, the Dark Cave) from Adventure and Zero Two. Oh, and just so you're aware, not a big fan of Hikari, Sora, Jun, or Nancy. :3
Chapter One
“Yamato, there’s only one place left we haven’t looked,” Takeru told me.
“Did you mention it to the others—“ “It involves you.”
I wasn’t sure what to think, “What do you mean?”
“You, Sora, Hikari, and Ken…”
Ken.
I looked up at the doorplate that read “Ichijouji”. I had only been over here once or twice with Takeru, but Ken and I did find time to talk to eachother. For some reason, we seemed to click on a certain level and it wasn’t until my conversation with my brother that I really knew why. Ken had the same darkness in his heart that I did. It was different from the others… Sora and Hikari seemed to be grabbed and scooped up, while Ken and I found ourselves there, lost and confused, unable to escape for some time.
Mrs. Ichijouji answered the door. She was such a sweet mother. I often admired Ken for having two very loving parents, but I felt the price he had to pay with Osamu was too great. I’d rather deal with Takeru and a broken family than have to live with pseudo guilt that I killed my own flesh and blood.
I took my boots off at the door and followed Ken’s mom to his room. I knocked and he greeted me. Like usual, the room was pretty dark, lit by a computer screen and maybe one lamp. I was used to that. My room was like that too at his age. I sat down at his desk as he cleaned up a little. Honestly, Ken’s room wasn’t all that messy. He had some newspaper clippings in a stack, saying that he was hoping to become a detective. I told him I wasn’t really sure what I was going to be, truly. I really loved music, so I was sticking with the Teenage Wolves for now.
“Takeru told me you wanted to ask me about… The Dark Ocean,” Ken began. He sat down on the bed with his hands in his lap. “What is it you want to know?”
“I think it may have to do with Hikari’s disappearance. Takeru told me that Hikari said she had been there on two separate occasions, pulled by some force. One time, you were with her.”
Ken proceeded in telling me the story of Osamu and Ryo, his experiences in the Dark Ocean and the Digital World that ultimately led him to becoming the Digimon Emperor. I listened, knowing full well I may have to explain myself as well.
“So, why are you so interested? Have you been to the Dark Ocean, Yamato?” Ken wasn’t stupid, that’s for sure.
I hesitated. I always felt the sense of guilt sweep over me when I had to remember that place, “I… had left the group for some time. Some things happened in the Digital World that I wasn’t proud of. I had a lot on my mind relating to my family,” I began. I hadn’t told this story to anyone except Takeru who already knew all the details. “When I left to find myself, I found myself lost in a Dark Cave.”
Ken gasped. “A Dark Cave?”
“I thought it was the Digital World. I thought that my own darkness was fueling that place, and in a way it was. My darkness allowed the worlds to be joined.”
“Just like when we banished Daemon, correct?” Ken said. “I had to use the power of my dark digivice to unlock the portal.”
“Ken,” said the little green worm-Digimon as he waddled down from the top bunk. “Tell him.”
“Yamato, I was called by something there in my dreams every night since Hikari’s disappearance, but another force always wakes me up with a nightmare.”
“I’ve suffered the same thing,” I replied, not sure what to say. Upon this discovery, I was sure Taichi would want us to go rescue Hikari if there was a chance of it, especially since none of the other Chosen had been able to succeed in leads in the Digital World.
“Ken, dear?” came the voice of his mother from the doorway. “Your friend Yagami is on the phone.”
Ken stood and walked over to his Mom, thanking her, taking the phone, and shutting the door behind him. “Hello?” he paused. I could barely hear the brunette’s voice on the other end. “Yeah, he’s here. What? Sora, too?”
“What’s going on?” I asked.
“Don’t worry, Taichi,” Ken continued on the phone, “Yamato and I think we know where they are, we just have to get there.” Ken paused again to listen to an upset Taichi on the other end. I’m sure my best friend felt that he was being attacked personally by this other force. His sister and his girlfriend were both missing. “Don’t worry, we’ll let you know.” He hung up the phone.
“Sora’s gone now, too. The only thing Taichi could tell me was that one minute they were talking together and the next, she disappeared right in front of him.”
Just when you think the Digital World is done with you, something else has to come and disrupt the peace.
Author’s Note: Yeah, there’s a lot of talking in this chapter and it’s kinda short, but as the plot gets going there will be more action. ;)
