A/N: Hey! I'll keep it short. This is an LxLight from Death Note story. (In case you didn't read the little bitty description thingy...I know I don't) Erm... not my first fanfic, but my first on this anime.
I guess that's it. Please review, you have no idea how it fills me with joy when I see I've got one!

Disclaimer: I don't own this anime, blah blah. (If only!! But...don't we all with we did?) Oh, I also don't own Walt Disney or Pinocchio or "that adorable cricket"...you'll see :)
Warning: Erm, once again, L n' Light. You know what that means. Yup, guys! Nothin in this chapter, but...

To all my Degrassi fans: Ha! I'm kiddin' myself! Not fans... readers?? Because I know some of you have me on author alert and if you actually like my Degrassi stuff this could be sad... But anyway...'fans' makes me feel good, so...
Anyway, not this isn't Degrassi, but I love this to! I'll write more though, but I have to get a few other stories out of my system first. And I promise when I get on to writing another Degrassi, it will have a more satisfying ending.

Note: '--' is used to indicate 'later that day' or 'meanwhile' or...basically what a double space means when the normal spaces aren't already double spaced.

Also, it may not be clear. This is set when Light ragained his memories of being Kira, the rest is self explanitory.

Hmm...that was a bit longer then I thought it would be.
Anyway, enjoy!

Light sat in front of his computer screen, mindlessly rubbing his left wrist where the handcuffs linking him and the detective L had been only days before. It kind of made him feel a bit off, not having L there all the time with his disturbing outlooks on life, interesting advice, and sarcastic comments…

But…what was he thinking? After all, L was the only one standing in Kira’s way… The only one standing in Light’s way, for he was the only one who believed that they were one in the same. How could Light miss the man trying to destroy his plans for a perfect world being attached to him 24/7?

And besides, they still saw each other enough. They lived in the same building, and worked on the Kira case at task force headquarters together for a good portion of every day. But still…Light couldn’t help but wonder how L managed without his reminders to stretch once and awhile and get a few hours of sleep each night. …Despite his attempts, Light had never gotten L to…eat actual food.

After a moment’s debating, Light spoke. “Hey, Ryuuzaki?”

“Yes Light?” L answered in his I’m-either-just-bored-enough-to-answer-you…-or-you-really-interest-me, -I’m-not-quite-sure voice.

“I was just thinking…are you…okay?”

L turned his head away from his computer screen and fixed his gaze intently on Light. “Why yes Light. Are you…okay?”

Light let out a forced laugh and took a step back, “Of course. I’m great! Why do you sound so suspicious?”

“Ryuuzaki!” Matsuda piped from the back of the room, “Do you still think Light is Kira?”

L returned his attention to his computer and simply let out a “Yes.” Like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

That night, when everyone but L and Light had gone to bed and Light was just grabbing his laptop to retire himself, (he couldn’t believe he had stayed up until three in the morning already…), he once again couldn’t help but wonder about L.

“L- erm… Ryuuzaki.” Light said, catching himself not using the correct alias, “Are you sure you’re okay…by yourself? Maybe you should get some sleep. You must’ve been working off of 4 hours of sleep for three days... Do you really think you should be working on the case in this state?”

“I’m fine, Light.” He replied. “I’ve told you before, I’m building mental stamina.” He paused and typed a few more things on his keyboard before speaking up again, quieter. “And your constant concern is quite suspicious, and only raises my suspicion that you are Kira.” He paused again and bit the side of his thumb. “…By about 1.7 percent.”

Light’s jaw dropped in disbelief. “What? How? In what way??”

L was about to answer when Light interrupted him, having regained composure, by saying, “You know what? Forget it.” Making L frown in what could be perceived as annoyance.

“You just contradicted yourself, Light.” He said. “You shouldn’t confuse people like that.”

Light quietly sighed, shaking his head but smiling.

As he was walking away, L muttered, “But if you aren’t Kira, your concern really is touching.” And Light couldn’t be sure if be was supposed to hear that or not, but, nonetheless, it made him gently smile as he made his way to his room.

As soon as L was sure that Light was gone, he shut off his computer and began the trek to his own room. (Why his room was the furthest away, especially since he designed the place, he didn’t know.) Anyway, L did take Light’s advice to get some sleep. L actually took Light’s advice a surprising amount of the time. That is, when Light wasn’t around to witness it. Maybe it was a pride thing, he didn’t know.

Light seemed to L like his little voice of common sense he had so long ago killed with lack of sleep and huge sugar intake. He was almost like that adorable cricket in that Walt Disney film…Pinocchio, was it? But, L decided, talking crickets, wooden puppets coming to life, and fairies, especially blue ones, were just absurd.

Regardless, L was tired. It was three in the morning, after all. So it’s not like he was taking orders from a possible mass murderer. The suggestion that said person gave just happened to be a reasonable one.

L arrived at his room, changed into his pjs, (the ones with the strawberries on them), and climbed into his bed, not able to help but think about Light. He reached his hand over to the left side of his bed, the side that had been occupied by Light only a few nights before. He wondered, what was he doing right now?

Light growled under his covers, cursing L. It was just no use! He couldn’t get to sleep…

For the first week Light and L were handcuffed together, L always managed to pick out the exact moment Light started falling asleep to decided that he need some dessert. Right then. Which forced them both to get out of bed so L could get some strawberry shortcake, or whatever it was that night.

After a few nights of L saying that Light would be a lot less grumpy if he would just have a piece of cake with him, Light finally gave in and had an accursed piece of cake. And from that night on, throughout the rest of the time they were handcuffed together, L and Light always had some kind of sweet before actually going to bed.

And now, Light was addicted. He just couldn’t sleep without something sweet. He let out a sigh of defeat before getting out of bed and making his way to the kitchen, which was, as an added bonus, horrifyingly far away from his room.

As L was thinking about Light, he was overcome with a craving for a dessert of some kind… Did he still have a slice of chocolate raspberry cheesecake in the fridge? L got out of bed and left his room. As he approached the kitchen, he remembered the reason for his bizarre room placement: It was as close as possible to the kitchen.

Light heard a scuffle of feet and peered over the refrigerator door to see L standing there in adorable -no not adorable, sickening…yes, that was the word- pink pajamas with red strawberries on them, and his hair in even more of a disarray than usual. Light quickly bent down, appearing to search in the fridge again, to prevent L from seeing the smile that had appeared on his face which would probably cause the percentage of him being Kira to raise by 1.3257 percent…or whatever ridiculous number L came up with.

“Oh Light, don’t tell me you’ve picked up my ‘awful eating habits’” L said, quoting what Light had said only a week ago.

Light scoffed and couldn’t help but mutter under his breath, “It’s your fault, you sugar addicted insomniac...”

“I’ll take that comment as a form of endearment.” L said boredly, pushing past Light to get the piece of cheesecake from the fridge.

“This is just like old times, eh?” Light said, finally having decided to eat a small cup of ice cream... With whipped cream. And chocolate sauce.

“If by ‘old times’ you mean a few days ago, then yes.” L said, mouth full, and despite his monotone voice, clearly enjoying a memory from another time like this.

“And just like old times, you still have to get the last word?” Light said more as a statement than a question.

“Yes.” L said in-between bites, with a small smile that disappeared so fast, Light couldn’t be sure if it was there in the first place.

A/N: There it is! My finger's are crossed for reader approval! I'd appreciate reviews or any constructive comments. I've also been hit with writer's block, so anything that may help me write the next chapter (plain ol' compliments, ideas, what you were thinking as you read it, etc.) would be praised and appreciated!
See you next time!
Thanks!
