College is for Lovers ch. 2: Encountering the serpent
A/n: You will notice that there are some elements of the Grand theft auto series, 4 in particular that are mixed in. I’d like to state, though everybody already knows I’m poorer than holy hell, that I do not own GTA either. If I did, Hot Coffee would not have been removed from SA, and you would be able to play as an adult Jimmy Hopkins in 4.
It was a long, lonely drive to Bullsburg University. 40 miles of roads between the Academy and the University. Pete had already covered 36 when he entered the town he would be spending the next four years of his life in. He looked around in awe. He had spent most of his life in Bullworth City, a rather small town. However, upon laying his wide brown eyes on the city of Bullsburg, he realized it was a hustling, bustling, neon sign flashing metropolis.
He looked at the roadmap and made a left turn, pulling the roaring Mustang into the university parking lot with ease. He did not know how to thank his mother and father enough. Though he was normally quite opposed to such gas guzzling monstrosities, this particular monstrosity was really quite beautiful. His father had obviously had it repainted at the local Pay and Spray, and had put spinning silver rims on all four tires. The engine ran as if it was a brand new V8, and the car itself drove smooth as silk.
He parked next to a red Ford 150 pickup, swiped the keys out of the ignition, and walked toward the main campus. Classes didn’t start for five days yet, but Pete still wanted to get acquainted with the school grounds. The school was about twice the size of Bullworth Academy in height, and could hold more than a thousand more students, seeing as it was also four times the length of the academy in all directions. The building was made up mostly of pale rust colored brick that made it look like a prison. The place had a dark aura about it, and it truly did resemble a prison, minus the barbed wire fence.
Pete was sure he was just being paranoid. It was just a university. Not a prison. Just a college. But it reminded him of a much more sinister, dark, and dreary version of Bullworth Academy. It loomed over him, and seemed to look back at him with a feeling of utmost superiority. As if the building was better than him, and it already knew what Pete was in for before the school year even began.
“Listen to me, I’m a paranoid freak, the building isn’t looking at me. I must just be nervous” Pete thought.
And indeed, Pete was nervous. He had been excited for college. But that had been before he’d gotten a good look at the location. He’d been dreadfully ill on the day he was to move his things in, and therefore, his mother, father, and Jimmy had taken the liberty of moving his stuff into dorm 291 for him. Now, upon seeing the location, and the sheer size of the campus, as well as all the fights going on in the area, his palms began to sweat, and he desperately wished he could’ve found a parking spot closer to the main building.
He began walking quickly toward the building, but when he saw the familiar face of football player Damon West in the parking lot, football equipment in hand, he hastily retreated to his car to avoid his past tormentor. He sat in the car, with the doors locked, for a good five minutes, until he was sure the coast was clear, and then he exited with a sigh.
“Come on Kowalski, get a grip and keep a positive attitude, this isn’t high school anymore, we’re all adults here, we should be able to face each other without fear, regardless of the petty shit that happened back at Bullworth. If you go around with your eyes to the floor looking like a loser, they’re going to treat you like a loser” he thought, gathering his courage and walking toward the main building with fast, purposeful strides.
He walked about ten yards... and bumped right into another freshman walking out toward the parking lot. Pete fell backward onto his butt, hitting the ground with a small thud. The other boy barely managed to keep his balance. He wore a gray family guy T-shirt with Stewie pointing and saying, “The difference between you and me is that I will someday rule the world and you’re just an idiot”, along with a pair of black cargo pants and red Etnies. The boy had his long brown hair in his face, and was smiling. “Hey, lemme help ya up” The kid said, extending his arm warmly. Pete uttered a word of thanks, and grabbed his arm. The kid pulled Pete up, but did not let go once he was upright. Instead, he swung him around by the arm and tossed him right back down where he had been two seconds earlier. “Next time, look where you’re going fag,” the boy drawled, showing his fangs like a serpent ready to strike. He cackled, and a shiver instantly went down his spine. The boy’s laugh was oily, cold, and dangerous. Though he could not see the boy’s eyes or nose because of the long hair, he could tell under it, that the boy’s eyes were piercing, and icy. His voice was cruel, sarcastic, and devoid of any positive emotion. Pete had felt several emotions in the ten minutes since he had arrived on campus. He had felt grateful, happy, sad, nostalgic, and anxious.
But at this moment, Peter Kowalski was enveloped in a wave of crippling, cold, mind numbing fear. He backed away from the boy, doing a crab walk, and trying to distance himself from the menacing stranger. “See you around kid, oh and you’d better get the janitor to check out the lock in dorm 291, I hear it’s broken”
Pete froze. Whoever this sociopath was, he knew his dorm number. “Whoever the fuck you are, just stay away from me” Pete shouted. The stranger smiled, bent down, and put his hand on Pete’s cheek. “I’ll try, but you’re just so irresistible, oh, and enjoy the boy’s swimming practice tomorrow.”
And with that, the stranger gave one last oily little laugh, and walked past him. Pete lay there, frozen for several more minutes, unsure of anything but that he had just had an encounter, with the serpent of Bullsburg University. And while dusk settled in over the evening sky, Pete’s hopes for a fun time at Bullsburg University were swallowed by the pitch-black night that had settled in over his heart.
