The sun had just risen on a peaceful town in suburban Arizona and the gentle morning breeze floated in through the window of the house where the Maxwell family lived and Korey, the little sister of the family, was still laying fast asleep in her bed cuddling up with her favorite Care Bear, Love-A-Lot Bear.
While she slept on Dobby, the resident house elf, crept quietly into her room so to begin cleaning it as was his morning ritual. Though Dobby lived and worked for the Maxwell family he was by all accounts a free elf and instead of a pillowcase he wore a green shirt and purple shorts with a small pink apron over them, and on his feet he wore two colorfully mismatched socks which were his favorite clothing of all.
Dobby also was not quite a pure blood elf for he had families of goblins in his linage. Dobby also had a bit of the imp in him for he had a slightly mischievous side to his nature and after he had finished cleaning up the floor of Korey's room and put away any of the stray toys he crept into her closet and began scavenging around on the floor for stray and discarded clothes he could wear for he and Korey were just about the same size.
As he was thus engaged in his own treasure hunting he suddenly heard the sound of the door opening and a slight scraping sound. He froze as he gulped dreading that one of the other Maxwells had entered and he would be found out and have to punish himself. He poked his head out of the closet and caught just a glimpse of the bedroom door closing again. Though his relief was short lived when he suddenly noticed Korey's piggy bank was now missing.
He let out a squeak of horror as the realization of what had just happened came to him. “Korey is been robbed!” he yelled almost loud enough to wake up his young mistress.
He might not have woken up Korey, but his cry of an emergency reached portals to other worlds within the room and one was an open book of The Land of Oz where Mr. H. M. Wogglebug T. E. was now in the picture on the open page and when his sensitive antennae caught the sound of Dobby's distress call he sprang at once into action and jumping out of the picture frame he magnified himself to human size.
“Never fear, young house elf!” he said as he bowed to Dobby. “I will help you find the thief, being myself both highly magnified and thoroughly educated it will be my pleasure to be of service to you!”
“The highly magnified Wogglebug will help Dobby! Oh joy!” exclaimed Dobby and pronouncing magnified the same way Mr. Wogglebug had.
As Dobby left with Mr. Wogglebug to look for the piggy thief, the screen on the TV set in Korey's room in which a video game had been left on suddenly flashed and began to convulse as if it had suddenly become fluid and then a white gloved hand stuck out of it followed by another and then by a brown shoe and then a head wearing a red hat popped out. This was the head of a young looking Italian man with a fuzzy black mustache wearing blue overalls and a red shirt.
“Mama Mia! Korey's piggy bank is gone!” he exclaimed as his blue eyes spotted the empty shelf by the door. “We've got to help her! Come on, Luigi!”
“Coming, Mario!” Another slightly taller and thinner young Italian man wearing blue overalls and a green shirt came stumbling out of the TV screen and then he got stuck.
“Oh no! Help! I'm stuck!” he cried as he struggled to break free.
“Come on, Luigi, give me your hand!” said Mario as he took his brother's hand and pulled him out of the middle sized TV screen. They both fell to the floor with a thud and then quickly picked themselves up and followed after Dobby and Mr. Wogglebug through the door.
As the four brave adventurers journeyed down the hall they stopped abruptly as an ear-splitting shattering noise reached their ears. Dobby gasped, he knew what it was.
“Hmm,” said Mr. Wogglebug. “The sound of a piggy bank being broken into, if ever I've heard one.”
They went up to the door where they thought they heard the noise coming from and opened it carefully and finding no one inside they tiptoed cautiously inside.
“I don't like it in here,” Dobby muttered trembling, for he was well aware this was the bedroom of Korey's older brother Michael and he would go crazy if he ever saw him in here when he wasn't around.
His fears elevated just then when the sound of footsteps approaching down the hall reached his ears. “Someone is coming!” he squeaked in a loud whisper.
“Quick! Under here!” said Mr. Wogglebug as he lifted up the bed sheet of Michael's bed and pointed to the space between the floor and the bed. He allowed for Dobby and then Mario and Luigi to go before him and then he quickly squeezed himself under the bed and hid just as the door opened again.
Michael stepped into the room carrying his little sister's piggy bank which was now broken in two. He sat down on his bed and began counting out the change inside the broken half.
“Alright!” he said victoriously to himself. “There must be twenty bucks in here even!”
Dobby gasped in shock at what he suddenly knew now. “I can't believe it! Korey's own brother!?”
“I would never do this sort of thing to Mario,” Luigi stated.
“And I wouldn't to you either, Luigi,” added Mario.
Just then there came a knock at the door. “Michael? It's me,” called Korey from behind the door.
“Go away!” ordered Michael.
Korey opened the door and stepped into the room anyway. “I'm just looking for – is that my piggy bank?” she exclaimed as she spotted it is Michael's hands.
“I told you to stay out!” Michael yelled in annoyance. “It fell, I was just trying to fix it.”
“Is he kidding!” Mario whispered in disbelief.
Korey wasn't buying it either. “It fell from my dresser into your room? You took it!” She pointed accusingly at him. “And what is in that box?” she asked as she spotted the small gray box on his bed.
“None of your business! And keep your hands off!” Michael said as he quickly grabbed the box and shoved it under his bed, right under Mario's nose.
“What's that funny smell?” he asked sniffing at the box.
Luigi opened the box and couldn't comprehend what he found inside it. “Holy spicy meatballs! What is all this stuff!” he said.
“It is either a science experiment... or a serious no-no!” Mario declared, still not liking the smell of it.
“I'd hate to suggest this,” said Mr. Wogglebug in a fearfully melancholy voice. “But my guess would be marujauna. An unlawful substance used to experience artificial highs.”
“Mario, something tells me were not in the Mushroom Kingdom anymore,” said Luigi dreadfully.
“You're acting really weird,” they heard Korey accuse her brother.
“So who asked you?' he said putting his head in his hands.
“If you wanted some money you could have said something. Are you feeling okay?” she asked with concern as she noticed his unusually bloodshot eyes. “What's wrong with your eyes?”
“Nothing!” Michael exclaimed as he reached over to pick up his sunglasses on his dresser. “Leave me alone, will ya!” he quickly rushed out of the room.
“Michael! You always tell me everything! What's wrong!” Korey exclaimed with tears welling up in her eyes.
“Michael sure has made a poor choice,” said Mr. Wogglebug shaking his head in disappointment. “Because these kinds of drugs can mess you up and even kill you.”
The moment he said the word kill Dobby's eyes grew even wider and he snapped his fingers and apparated in front of Michael just as he was about to leave the house.
“Stay out of my way!” Michael yelled at the house elf.
“Dobby has come to warn young master,” he said trying to control the tremor in his voice. “The drugs you have in that box are not good for you for they can mess you up and kill you?”
“Who says so?” Michael demanded. “And how did you know I had drugs?”
“Mr. Wogglebug said so,” Dobby said. “And Dobby found out when he hid in your room and watched you take Korey's piggy bank.” Dobby figured it would be worth punishing himself for telling on Michael, but Michael was about to do it for him.
“I'll do whatever I want with my life and I want these drugs! They are the only thing that makes me feel good,” he snapped as he took hold of Dobby's little wrist and squeezed it as hard as he could. “And if you say a word to Mom and Dad--”
“Ow!” Dobby yelped in pain. “You is hurting Dobby!”
Michael promptly released his grip on him. “I didn't mean to,” he stammered.
But Dobby just clutched at his reddened wrist with tears in his eyes and apparated away from Michael's sight as he was now suddenly afraid of his young master.
He appeared again in Michael's bedroom where he found the Mario brothers and Mr. Wogglebug waiting for him. He burst into tears instantly.
“Young master Michael wouldn't listen to Dobby!” he bawled as he showed them his red wrist. “Dobby is very worried for him!”
“There there, don't cry,” said Mario as he gave Dobby a handkerchief. “If Michael is in trouble then you can count on the Mario brothers to get him out of it!”
“I'll help too,” declared Mr. Wogglebug. “I know many other celebrities who can set things right again also.”
Dobby stopped crying and dried his tears. “Dobby also knows a great wizard who can help us and he has a witch and wizard friend who can too!”
“Then let's get going!” exclaimed Luigi.
“Good luck!” said Dobby as he rushed off downstairs to fix breakfast for the Maxwells.
