The apartment door slammed closed behind them.
"Marky, it's just rain, you won't melt!" complained Maureen, pulling off her drenched sweater and throwing it on the floor.
Mark quickly glanced over at his girlfriend's slender frame, and glanced away.
"What is it? Why don't you want to stay out for a bit longer?" she nagged, following him over to the window.
Rain cascaded against the dirty windowpane, and thunder growled ominously in the distance.
"It's not that I don't want to be out there, Mo, I love the rain -"
Mark was cut off as a flash of lightning exploded outside, illuminating the dark room in white.
He jumped, the lightning reflecting in his glasses, making his heart race.
Maureen's eyes widened in realization as she watched his reaction, and a smirk slowly lit up her face. Slowly, she walked over to him until she was pressed up against his back.
His face turned red at the sudden unexpected contact, which only made his heart race more.
"Are you afraid?" she said gently in his ear.
"God, Maureen, do you think I'm that…"
With a loud crack, another bolt of lightning shot from the sky, seeming closer than the one before, startling both of them.
"Shit!" he exclaimed, trying to catch his breath.
Taking his hand, she led him over to their bed and pulled him down beside her.
"Come on, it's kind of sexy."
"Sexy?" He echoed incredulously.
"I hate how it just comes out of nowhere. You're never expecting it to happen, and then it just hits you, like it knows you're not ready for it."
Maureen smiled again. She could get used to this shy, child-like side of him.
"Sounds like looove to me!" she laughed.
Mark glanced over at her, and considered her words.
Outside, there was another deafening rumble of thunder.
"Maybe I wasn't ready for it."
"But these things can turn out to be amazing." She agreed, moving closer.
Lightning flashed again, but she was too close, and his mind was no longer thinking of the weather.
"Maybe I just need a distraction…" he said, smiling.
"You should get out of those clothes, you're shivering…" she agreed. She took hold of his sweater and pulled it up over his head, just before his lips crashed against hers.
The noise outside started to escalate, but, honestly, that was the last thing on his mind.
