1Mission Raptor – The Under discovered Universe.
By Solair
I do not own the rights to any of the shows I use here within this story. Each belongs to their own relative creatures and networks; this is a free work of fan fiction. I once again would like to thank ALBERT G who has very kindly agreed to beta read this, and once again I would like to take this chance to public thank him for his hard work.
This BSG crossover is set during the BSG film Razor just after the Pegasus is sent for her search and rescue mission; for the missing personal, and of course one raptor.
Chapter one
Day one
The Battlestar Pegasus elegantly powered through space, she gentle rolled to port to correct a navigational error. In front of the powerful warship, two vipers flew taking point.
Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace, Cag officer for the Pegasus was in her cockpit of her sleek viper and was bored. She hated this nothingness.
“Nothing to the right of me, nothing to the left of me; feel as though I’m drowning in nothingness!”
She let slip a sigh; “Come on showboat,” Kara Thrace called over to her other female pilot that was her wing man.
“Sign out and let me know I have company out here”
Showboat laughed; “Sing out Cag, you mean like really sing? How about ninety nine bottles of Ambrosia?”
Command in Control (CIC)
As Command Lee Adama listened to the chatter, he couldn’t help the small smile that crept upon his face, thinking back to the times when it’d been Starbuck and him self out there chatting and trying to shake off the boredom. Now however, things were different. His executive officer Kendra Shaw was using a pen knife to scrape a stain from the console before her. It was while Kendra was busy scraping away the residue of some long forgotten stain she noticed the displays and consoles were starting to shake.
“Ensign, find me the source of the vibration.” She barked.
Lee, looked towards Kendra and was about to ask about the vibration, when the Pegasus rocked violently to starboard as if she had been struck by a missile barrage. “REPORT!” snapped Lee.
Vipers – On point
“Starbuck I’m picking up something strange here, hell the damn vipers starting to shake.”
“Run a full diagnostic on your bird,” Kara replied, as suddenly her Viper started to display the same symptoms as Showboats’.
Starbuck watched opened mouthed, as the Battlestar was shoved to port by three degrees, as a shockwave slammed into the side of the great vessel, shortly followed by a fountain of pure energy erupting out of subspace. Although theorised, it had never been observed before now, the Kara’s blood ran cold. She could see the engines flicker and flame out. Slowly she listed to port, then started to fall towards the fountain, and certain disaster. Turning her viper towards the Pegasus, she and Showboat headed home.
Command In Control – ten minutes later
“What the frak do you mean we’re losing all power?” Lee spat.
“Simple sir..” The young ensign said trying to stay clam. “…Whatever that was that hit us, resulted in the fact that we’ve lost all power. We have emergency life support and that’s it!”
“Frak me…”
“What here Sir ? In front of all these people, it’ll start rumours” Starbuck said as she reached Lee’s side out of breath. She looked at the stunned Lee.
“Damn it Starbuck why the frak aren’t you on patrol!” Snapped Lee
“THAT may have something to do with the fact that you’re heading for a subspace fountain!” she replied. Showing him a hastily recorded image from her gun camera, which see had downloaded onto a portable console. Taking the potable console from Starbuck, Lee stared in disbelief at what he was seeing.
“TOP PRIOETY GET ME SOME FRAKKIN’ POWER, SET CONDITION ONE…….”
Deep space the subspace fountain
The Pegasus was rocked again, as she was buffeted by the strong tidal currants formed by the fountain. The lights flickered one last time as all power failed, and the Battlestar fell into the maelstrom.
A heavy raider which had been following the Pegasus had witnessed everything. Within the craft, Caprica Six watched in disbelief as the Battlestar feel into the maelstrom and its apparent demise. She watched as the two vipers had returned to their mother ship, and decided it was worth the risk to take the raider in to investigate, and if need be call in a Basestar, to destroy the Pegasus.
However as her vessel got closer the tidal forces grabbed the raider. Soon it shared the same fate with that of the Battlestar and pulled towards the fountain, and towards certain death. The raider’s engines accelerated to full, but as with the Battlestar, its power flickered then failed, leaving this tiny vessel at the mercy of the fountain. And as with the Battlestar, the raider vanished a few seconds later.
Command in Control – Pegasus
Acrid smoke filled the air as first one system after another slowly started to reboot and after a few minutes the Battlestar’s power crisis had been resolved. The last system to return back online was the DRADIS console. As it did so, a proximity alert echoed throughout the bridge. It showed a single Cyclon raider, drifting and powerless. Slowly the crew started to focus, whatever had happened to the ship had left them completely stunned and disorientated. Starbuck was the first to speak as she looked at the DRADIS display and it suddenly dawn upon her that she had a Cylon contact.
Kendra Shaw pulled herself to her feet; looking at Starbuck then at the DRADIS console. It was just sitting there. “Set condition one….”
“Major, it’s dead in the water,” Kara replied as she studied the readings.
“Send out a Raptor and a viper I want that thing brought aboard, if it so much as looks at us in a funny way, I will blow the fraker out of the sky!”
Lee Adama was slumped over a console, blood slowly oozing from a head wound. He was taken to the infirmary, Leaving Kendra in command. “Captain Thrace, I need an acting XO while the command is back on his feet. And you’re it.”
From Kendra’s voice it was not a request, it was an order, an order that she was not about to disobey.
“Sir,” Starbuck replied. Could this day get any worse?
Floating heavy raider
A raptor had been dispatched with two vipers to haul in the crippled heavy raider, as they got close, they could see it was in bad shape.
“Showboat, can you see the state of this thing? Looks like it took quite a good beating. It looks like it was a good decision for you and Starbuck to dock before we passed through that thing.”
“Tell me about it, Sledgehammer. You didn’t see that fountain up close and personal, to be honest, I’m not surprise that the raider’s in this good a condition.”
“……..ca……can……elp………me” the wireless crackled open.
“Showboat, I think we got ourselves a skin job” snarled Sledgehammer.
“Pegasus, we have one heavy raptor badly damaged, with one survivor. Request instructions.”
“Maybe we can get some intelligence out of it. Maybe after all it is the reason why we’re here. And of course if that’s true then it may hold the key of getting us back to the fleet,” Starbuck said.
Kendra thought for a moment, she wanted it dead, destroyed blown out of the sky, that’s what the Admiral would do. However Cain was dead, and for the time being she was in command. Kendra simply nodded.
Kara replied her instruction to the Raptor, and then made her way out of C.I.C and towards the hanger deck.
Hanger Deck – Pegasus
What was left of the heavy raider had been dragged into the main deck. All around it were heavily armed guards, all of them amazed that anything which had taken that amount of damage was still space worthy. One of the deck hands slowly opened the door, as four marines with weapon trained upon the hatch. As the deck hand pulled upon the hatch, it started to slowly lift then fell to the ground with a large crash. There was a nervous pause, as everyone waited for a toaster to rush out guns blazing, but there was nothing, just the smell of acrid smoke. Pointing at three marines, Starbuck ordered them inside.
“Rodger that,” one of the replied as they slowly made there way inside the doomed ship. A few seconds later, they heard over the wireless. “Just one skin job inside, she’s in a bad way. If we don’t do something about it, she become a dead skin job, which quit frankly as far as I’m considered would not be a bad thing.”
“Button it solider.” Starbuck snapped in no mood for his bullshit. “When I want your advice I’ll ask you.”
“Yes Sir. So what should we do with this thing?”
“Take her to sick bay then post a guard on her.”
“Yes, Sir,” snapped the marines, as two of them carried her away. The other two guards followed guns drawn, ready for anything.
“Ok so what we going to do with this peace of crap?” inquired Chief Laird who ran the hanger deck. He was responsible for the deck and fine running of everything with it, which was including this peace of junk. Slowly the chief looked over the heavy raider.
“I want you to go over her with a fine tooth comb, and see if we can get her space worthy again. You never know when something like this could come in handy.”
“Aye sir.” The chief replied before turning to his deck hands; “You heard the lady, areoles and elbows. Come on people, MOVE IT!”
A sly smile crept across Kara’s face before she left the hanger deck and returned to the CIC.
CIC – Battlestar Pegasus
“YOU DID WHAT!” snapped Kendra as her eyes blazed with hatred.
“…Ordered the raider to be kept in once peace, we could…”
“Don’t you realise what that thing could do to us…!”
“WITH RESPECT…” snarled Kara, fed up of being interrupted.
“If you let me finished before snapped my fraking head off, the raider IS dead. Its computer systems are fired. They can be repaired, but in all intents and purposes its dead, beyond doing anything other then take up space down there. We’ll have to reprogram it, think of the advantage...”
Kendra stopped herself from reacting rather then thinking. “For the time being, you’ll have you’re little toy, but I warn you it so much as causes bad luck on my ship, then its on your head.”
“Its good to hear that the two of you are getting on so well,” Lee Adama snapped not believing what he’d walked into. “I’m out of it for the shortest amount of time, and you are ripping into each other. You’re supposed to be officers! Gods damn it, act like it!”
Silence hung in the air before both Kara and Kendra spoke at once.
“Sir!”
“Good, now sit-rep,” Lee spat not giving the two of them time to think.
“We are running diagnosis programmes at the moment to assess damage to systems; however the DRADIS is clear, engineers are in the green as are the FTL drives,” Kendra replied in a cool manor.
“Captain Thrace, you have duties if I am not mistaken, I want patrols round this battlestar, as I don’t want a surprise cylon attack. I want to find out where the hell we are, and I want to plot a jump back to the fleet,” he finished as he directed the later half of his instructions towards his XO.
“Yes, Commander,” Kendra replied as she returned to her duties.
Pilots briefing room ten minutes later
Within the briefing room pilots were sitting in their jumps suites, watching the display monitor showing the fountain that they seemed to have passed through.
There were muffled comments of “Impressive” and “Wow” followed by “So where the hell are we now?”
This comment brought a response from the CAG. “In answer to your question, I just don’t know, we are however to take two hour patrols three birds in the sky at any one time.”
Looking round the faces of the viper pilots, Kara could see there were looks of confusion and concern. She had to speak, had to keep the pilots calm.
“Look at it this way, if any Cylons appear then the glories all ours!”
That got a cheer from the briefing room, to which Kara smiled.
“You have your orders, good hunting and dismissed!”
Sickbay-Pegasus
The number six model also known as Caprica Six, slowly started to open her eyes. Everything hurt; she could feel burning sensations throughout her body. Looking round weakly she could see guards in black body armour, with weapons drawn.
A reassuring hand slowly pattered her shoulder; looking round she could see Baltar.
“You know, I think you could be quite possibly in a lot of trouble here.”
“You think?” she murmured, which caused the doctor to looked up from his lab work, and make his way over to her side.
“Just lie still, will you?” the doctor said in a rather harsh manor.
“Yes, well it looks like he really likes you,” Baltar said, sarcastic overtones dripping from every word.
Caprica said nothing just gave him a look that if looks could kill, will have proven
fatal.
“You better just lie there and let the good doctor help you. Baltar continued as he watched the Doctor fetch a rather large syringe, and roughly slam it into her arm. “Well, that’s what I think he’s doing.”
“Charming bed side manor,” Baltar said as Caprica’s world started to spin, and before long darkness had enveloped her.
Looking at the work ahead of him Dr Robertson looked towards his work sheet, he’d been completing before this skin job had awoken. Looking at her he figured she’d be out for at least three hours with the amount of sedative he’d just administered.
Slowly returning to his paper work he sighed to himself. Under the Admiral this thing would be slammed in a cell and tortured until it spilled the information which was needed. But times change, and not always for the best. Placing his fingers upon the keyboard he began to type the rest of the report.
Launch tubes – Ten minutes later
Kara Thrace sat within her viper a short time later completing her pre-flight check list. All were with the green. She braced her self ready for the run up and launch into space. The engines of her viper spun up, and within a second Kara was hurting down the tube and out into space.
Space-
She was in her element, she could almost feel it, touch it. People had said that she had become attuned to the very fabric of space. And so it came to no surprise to her that while she was patrolling with her wing man Showboat, she could tell that something here was very wrong. There was the small fact, which was she just didn’t know what this something was.
The chat between Kara and Showboat was to a minimum. Jessica ‘Showboat’ Ter’ila could tell Kara’s mind was on something else.
“Kara, you alright?”
“Hmm, fine just thinking about something…”
Kara’s sensors started to register an unusual energy spike as did the Battlestar’s.
“Starbuck this is Pegasus actual, reading a large energy spike two degrees to port.
Take Showboat and investigate. We’re launching the alert fighters which will rendezvous with you on route.”
“Confirmed Pegasus, we’re on our way. Starbuck out.”
As both Showboat and Kara’s viper turned towards the energy spike, ten vipers were deployed from the Pegasus.
A large energy vortex formed. It was blue in colour, and for a brief time it just hung there. The vortex was swirling round akin to a giant whirl pool. It was almost hypnotic watching it, within the centre of the vortex. Starbuck could make out redness and a small dark dot, which seemed to get grow larger at every passing second. Before long the small dot had grown into a large vessel which emerged from deep within the vortex.
“Frak! Pegasus, unknown capital ship has emerged from the vortex. Request instructions?”
“It’s an ugly mother fraker!” Showboat spat as she looked at the boxy grey vessel that was now out of the vortex which itself was collapsing behind them.
Looking at the middle section of the vessel, Jessica could see that it was a rotating section. Did this mean that was their only way of creating gravity?
“Hay Kara, you see that rotating segment…”
“Yeah, weird that would mean they have limited artificial gravity” Kara said in a disbelieving tone. “And the size of that thing…. You could fit two Galatica’s in that! FRAK ME!”
“All vipers form a defensive pattern.” Kendra’s voice echoed through the wireless.
Kara and Showboat eased the vipers back towards the Pegasus and the awaiting vipers.
“This is the Battlestar Pegasus to unknown vessel do you read….”
