Chapter 1: Trial
Guards stood at every entrance of the court room as made sure no one left without permission. Noble families of Luxor took their seats in the room as they watched the council members take their seats in the jury box. The captain of the guards entered the room with the eldest member of the council and helped the old man to his chair, which was where the Pharaoh sat when a trail took place. But a least there was no Pharaoh or heir to the throne of Luxor, so it was up to the elder to take the chair for now
Nefertiti was next to entered as she slowly walked up to The Chair of The Pharaoh and stood next to it, while the captain took his spot on the other. She kept her head bowed the whole time as her heart was weighed with grief for her beloved Tutankhamen, who was the victim along with his brother.
The Elder finally settle in his seat and looked over to court room to see if everyone was here. Once he was satisfied he stood from his seat along with everyone.
“The trial of the death of Prince Tutankhamen and his brother Akhenaten, whose body was found two days ago, will begin. Bring in the man who is responsible for this!” The Elder ordered.
The main doors opened to the court room as two guard dragged in the little man, Menes, who was Set’s right hand man. His wrists and ankles were chained together as the guards drag him towards The Chair of The Pharaoh. Menes fought agents the guards in rage as he tried to stop them for going any farther. Finally after having a little trouble the guards brought Menes before the Elder, Captain and Nefertiti.
Nefertiti glared at the little man with hatred while the Elder and Captain kept their faces from emotionless. Menes frowned and glared at everyone around him.
“Menes, you are charged with the murder of Prince Tutankhamen and the mysteries death of his brother Akhenaten. How do you plead?” The Elder asked.
“Not guilty.” answered the little man.
The Elder narrowed his eyes at Menes, “These are serious charges you are facing. Not only do we not have a Pharaoh, we have no heir either. If Nerfertit had married the young prince already it would be a different story,” He paused for a moment, “Why did you kill our two rulers?”
“I didn’t kill them; I just assisted my master in it, Lord Set! The true ruler of Egypt!” Menes announced.
Many gasps of shock and horror filled the room as the people whispered among them selves.
“Order, order!” yelled the Elder.
--
Red candles lit the inside of the Sun Shrine temple as the Portal God sat in the center of the temple in glory. At the base of the Portal God a bright light appeared and quickly faded away to reveal Imhotep, with Sphinx and Prince Tutankhamen.
“I sense the darkness in Heliopolis is no more as Set’s touch is gone. You’ve done very well Sphinx not only is Set defeated but Osiris is ruler of Egypt once again. I’m very pound of you. And you as well Prince Tutankhamen, without you we would have never gotten this far.” said Imhotep.
The mummy smiled and blushed a bit as he rubbed the back of his head. But his smile dropped when he brought both of his mummified hands in front of him and frowned.
“Do not worry, we will find a way to return you back to normal. There are many powerful forces out there that can change you back. In fact Anubis himself has the power to change you.” said the old baboon.
“You think he can?” Sphinx asked.
“Of course, after all Anubis is the god of the Underworld, there for giving him some power over the dead.” He explained.
“If he does then why didn’t he change Tut back at the castle then?” the hero asked.
“I believe he was more focus on keeping Osiris safe at the moment. Come let’s go see Anubis.” With Imhotep transported them to Anubis’s tower.
--
The jackal headed god sat on top of his throne with his arm resting on the armrest, with his chin resting on the fist of his head. Anubis had a deep frown as his forehead was creased in frustration. He was in a jam and didn’t know what to do. Sure he was a clever and sneaky god but for the first time he didn’t know what to do.
If he didn’t need to stay in tower with Osiris he would deal with the problem with ease. But the god of light needed him until his strength fully returned. He stared down at the lava pit below him with uneasy eyes. Whatever he was going to do he had to do it fast.
As if answering his prayers a bright light appeared on the other side of the lava pit. The light disappeared to reveal none other Sphinx, Imhotep and the mummy. It took all of Anubis’s will power to hold back the grin that threatened to touch his lips as an idea hit him.
“I did not expect to see all of you here so soon.” Anubis suddenly appeared next to them.
“We have come here for your help to turn the prince back to normal. He has proven himself by helping defeat Set from inside the Castle of Uruk.” said Imhotep.
“Indeed he has proven himself and I will be more then happy to turn him back to his true form.” said the god.
The mummy smiled in pure glee that Anubis would help.
“But I need Sphinx to do one last thing for me.” Anubis smirked.
The mummy’s smile dropped while Sphinx glared at the god.
“Don’t worry it’s nothing drastic, I just need you to be my baby sister’s bodyguard for a while. You see Osiris feared that Set wanted something from my sister but what is it we do not know. I know Set is gone for now but I still fear for my sister, so I need you to watch over her until I’m completely sure that she is safe.” said the jackal.
The hero’s glare disappeared as his form relaxed a bit. “If you fear for her safety then why don’t you keep her with you?”
“I’ve tried to keep her with me in the tower while you were off looking for the Scared Crowns and the beginning of Set’s plans… But it was a big mistake to keep her locked up in here, for Luxor never got the justice it deserved from Prince Tutankhamen death. And I can’t leave the tower yet until Orisis’s strength has fully returned.” Anubis explained.
“It sounds like a simple request, Sphinx it’s your chose?” the old baboon looked at his apprentice
Sphinx said nothing and looked over to the mummy to see pleading in his eyes. Imhotep was right, it was a simple request and it sounded like there won’t be any real danger. But he wasn’t looking forward to babysitting a little girl, epically when that girl is a goddess. Ah heck what does he have to lose he’s done worse then this and plus he is doing it to help Tut.
“Fine, I’ll be your sister’s bodyguard.” said Sphinx
“Excellent! I’m very happy to hear that but I’m afraid she is not here.” said Anubis.
“Then how am I suppose to watch her if she isn’t here?” the Demigod asked.
“Don’t worry, she was here a half an hour ago but went to Luxor to help with Prince Tutankhamen’s trial. I can transport you and prince there if you wish.” said Anubis.
The mummy smiled in joy at the thought of going back home. Even though he couldn’t walk among his people, at least he can visit.
Sphinx shrugged a bit and waited for the god to take them there.
“It will only be the two of you going while I talk to Imhotep alone.” With that the jackal headed god summoned two balls of light in his hands and threw them at the two Heros. A bright light blinded Imhotep and Anubis until it was gone.
--
In a hidden passage in the Luxor palace a bright light appeared to reveal Sphinx and the mummy. Sphinx looked around the place to see chains hanging everywhere with water dripping down from an unknown place.
Tutankhamen grabbed Sphinx’s wrist and tugged him down a dark hall. The hero didn’t know where he was going as he couldn’t see anything, but he trusted the mummy and let him take him to who knows where. As they walked further down they heard voices that were getting louder and louder. Soon a bright light appeared at the end of the hall that blinded Sphinx as he brought up his other hand to shield his eyes.
Once his eyes adjusted to the light he found that they somewhere high above in the main palace. The voices were now clear and much louder so they heard better then before. An uproar broke out as both Sphinx and the mummy slowly inched their way to the edge.
Down below they saw the court room filled with people. In the center of everything they saw Set’s right hand man on trial.
Sphinx smirked to himself as the mummy jumped in joy, knowing that they were doing something about his death.
“Silence!” the Elder shouted.
The room quickly fell silent as they watched the Elder on the edge of their seats.
“I have made my final diction. By the goddess of law, order and justice, Mense is here by guilty! Take him to the dungeon until we find a proper execution for him.” announced the Elder.
Mense cursed under his breath and let the guards drag him away without a fight. Once he was gone the people started to leave after giving the Elder a bow.
Tut jumped on Sphinx’s in joy that they found Mense guilty. Sphinx let out a small laugh as the mummy got off of him and started to do a little dance. It was a bit bizarre and yet entertaining to watch in Sphinx opinion. The mummy continued to dance and disappeared behind a large jackal statue. A minute later the mummy jumped back out into Sphinx’s view again but was shaking a fear.
Sphinx quickly got into hero mode and pulled out the Blade of Orisis. He got to the mummy’s side and prepared to attack the unknown danger. But what he saw made him lower his sword in surprise.
Standing before him was a young woman about his age or a year younger. She had flawless tan skin with long black hair that passed her waist. She had brown Egyptian eyes like everyone else that fit with her hair. She wore a white silk see-through gown that was sleeveless; underneath the gown was a strapless white bikini top with a white short skirt to match. On the top of her head was a golden feather and a beautiful blue and gold necklace around her neck.
The woman looked as shock and surprise as the mummy but was quickly replaced with annoyance. Sphinx was a little speechless to see the woman that was obviously a goddess to him, and figured this was Anubis’s sister. He was just expecting to find a child and not a woman.
“Are you going to stand there all day or tell me why you are staring at me for?” The woman’s voice was coated with venom.
“Oh, umm… are you Anubis’s younger sister?” the hero.
She raised an eyebrow. “Yes…”
“My name is Sphinx.” He put his sword away.
“Oh you are the one from the prophecy then,” her bad attitude turned into a cheery mood, “Please forgive me for my rudeness but I’ve been having trouble with my elder brother lately. My name is Maat.”
For all those people who don't know who Maat is she is the Egyptain goddess of truth, law, order and justice. I will be giving more information about Maat and others in the story about their true Egyptain history for fun.
Maat I believe is really spelled Ma'at, but I deicded to spell it Maat to make it easy for me. Her name was thought to have been pronounced as Muʔʕat (Muh-aht).
