Rating: K, or PG.

Summary: Choices, choices. When Kate asks Sawyer who he would sleep with if they weren't together, he comes up with some funny answers. Skate, oneshot.

Choices, Choices:

Sawyer peered at Kate through his lashes as she approached him. "Well, Freckles, to what do I owe this pleasure?" He asked, smirking knowingly.

"Oh, I just felt the need to spend some time with the island's favourite jokester." She retorted teasingly, sitting down beside him cross-legged.

"Ah, so you admit that you can't keep away from me," Sawyer threw back.

"You are exactly right. Now scoot over, you're hogging all the shade!"

Sawyer chuckled to himself and, with an over dramatic groan, slowly scooted farther to the side of a piece of plane wreckage. It was a bright and sunny day, and even with the use of sun-screen, which itself was rare, the survivors were in constant threat of getting sunburned.

"So, what is it you want, anyway?" Sawyer asked, not unkindly.

"Well," Began Kate, and Sawyer could sense that she was going to start telling a long, boring story. What have I gotten myself into? He questioned himself. "I was sitting with Josephine, when she asked me if I thought there was anyone worth...sleeping with here. I said yes, and she asked who, but I was too embarassed to say. But just then I thought, I don't know who Sawyer would be with if we weren't together. So, that's why I'm here."

Kate stared at Sawyer expectantly, awaiting a response. When he didn't give her one, she immediately knew he hadn't been listening.

"Sawyer!" That sure got his attention. He turned his head to look at her so quickly his neck snapped back slightly.

Grunting in irritation, he began to massage the back of his neck. "What?" He demanded, glaring at her reproachfully.

"Did you actually hear a word I just said?"

Kate had a dangerous look upon her face. Her freckly arms were cross and her green-grey eyes were narrowed slightly. "Yeah! 'Course, baby. I always listen to you."

"Don't baby me," Spat Kate. "What did I just say?"

"You just said don't baby me," Replied Sawyer, proud that he had answered the question correctly.

"No! I mean the story I was telling you."

"Oh. Well, you were saying that you were with Josephine, and..." Sawyer trailed off.

"God," Huffed Kate. "I said that I want to know who you would sleep with or date if we weren't together."

"Oh! I thought that was what you said!"

Kate rolled her eyes, but a smile was playing at her lips. "Well?"

"Well what?"

"Sawyer! For God's sake, you've got the memory of a golfish! Well, who would you sleep with if we weren't together?"

"As much as I like you, Freckles, there's no competition. My answer's definitely Claire."

"Claire?" Repeated Kate incredulously. "You would do Claire?"

"'Course! Why?"

"Well, I don't know. Claire is really pretty, really smart, and kind, but I was sure you would pick a tougher girl. You know, what with screwing Ana, who was a headcase, and loads of others, I bet..."

"First of all, you are one of those difficult girls you're talking 'bout, Freckles, and two, how the hell did you hear about me and Ana?"

Kate waved her hand dismissively. "Jack told me. I was pretty upset at first, but now I realize it really doesn't matter, because I was still torn between you and Jack at the time."

"And you're not now?" Asked Sawyer sarcastically, eyebrows raised.

Kate blushed and quickly said, "Let's get back on subject. So, Claire. Who else?"

"Hmm," Sawyer pondered. "I think after Claire, Sun. She can play rough with me anytime."

Seeing Kate glare at him venomously, he quickly added, "But you're much foxier, sweetheart. Did I mention that I love you?"

Kate beamed. "Okay, you can get away with it this time, but don't let me catch you saying that again, you hear me Sawyer?"

Sawyer nodded, eyes wide with relief. "So, Freckles, who would you do?"

Kate blushed again, and tried to evade the question, but Sawyer simply said, "I answered, so you have to too."

Face bright red, Kate quickly said, "Jack. Happy?"

"Far from it," Sawyer growled, making a mental note to kill Jack. "Go on. Who else?"

"...Are you sure you want me to say it? It's going to come as a blow."

"Don't try to get out this, fair's fair, Freckles!"

"Oh, alright. After Jack I would do Charlie."

"Charlie?! You would do the midget?!"

"He's not a midget! He may be smaller than you, but he makes up for it in alot of other ways."

"C'mon, now, girl! Give me three of these ways."

"Well, he's really funny."

"I'm funny!"

"You're a different kind of funny, Sawyer. You're funny in a bullying kind of way. Charlie's witty funny."

"Wha-" But Sawyer was cut off as Kate continued to list reasons.

"He's also really handsome. He doesn't get alot of credit for that, but I think he is."

"You've got to be kidding me! The limey runt?"

"Yes, Sawyer! And also, he's really nice. He's always been great to everyone around him."

"He hasn't always been nice to me!" Shouted Sawyer, mimicking Kate's voice.

Kate rolled her eyes. "And also, you know what?"

"What?" Grumbled Sawyer.

"Claire told me he's got a HUGE d-"

"Enough, enough!" Sawyer had jumped up and was waving his arms around in panic. "Stop already! I don't want to hear it!"

Kate smirked, looking smug. "What? Afraid that he's bigger than you?"

Sawyer abruptly became serious. "No one is bigger than me. Not Jack, your precious midget, no one! None can even compare."

Kate raised an eyebrow. "And how do you know this?" She asked, biting back her laughter.

Sawyer's face coloured, making him turn beet red. Sawyer rarely blushed, but the rare moments he did, Kate thought it was sweet. "So?" Demanded Kate, enjoying watching him struggle to choke out the words.

"It's not my fault Gimminy Cricket likes to skinny dip! How was I supposed to know the elf would be naked?!"

"So, your eyes just wandered down there right away, huh?" Questioned Kate, giggling.

"Wha-No! No, that's not what happened!"

"Enlighten me."

Kate let Sawyer sputter for a moment before bursting into laughter. She got up and tauntingly walked toward Jack, calling over her shoulder, "Hey, I bet Jack would love to know!"

"NO!" Sawyer ran after her and just about tackled her.

Kate pushed him off of her, stood up, and started to run toward Jack, who was sorting the medical supplies in his tent. "Hey Jack! Guess what?"

Sawyer dragged her away before she could finish her sentence, leaving a very confused looking Jack behind. "I don't think, so, missy. Do that and you'll get punished." Sawyer murmured in her ear huskily.

Kate laughed again, and sat down. "I wouldn't mind being punished," She said with a flirtacious wink.

Sawyer moved toward her, a suggestive comment on his lips, but before he could say anything, Kate was rambling about how, because Charlie was supposedly bigger than him, his manhood was injured. "Oh, put a cork in it, Freckles," He snorted, causing Kate to errupt once again in giggles.

"Anyway, back to our conversation. After Sun, who?"

"After Sun, Nikki."

"Nikki? You've got to be kidding me!"

"Am I laughing?"

"But she's so superficiel! She has no originality, no..."

"What? Spunk?"

Kate scoffed but said nothing. "Then who?"

"Ah ah ah, I don't think so. It's your turn."

Kate tried to hide the gleam in her eye, as she stated, "Sayid."

Sawyer scoffed with disgust. "Ugh. What's wrong with you? Are you sick?" He questioned, feeling her forehead mockingly.

"Hey! I didn't say anything bad about your choices!"

Sawyer scoffed, but otherwise said nothing. He hated to be away from her, but knew that this little talk was leading to nowhere good.

"Well, I think this conversation is over, Freckles. I gotta go wash, unless you'd care to join me." Sawyer let the sentence hang suggestively, but Kate merely smiled.

Sawyer sighed sarcastically and slowly got up and started to walk away when he heard, "Get Charlie to join you. Then you'll know for sure who's superior."

Sawyer shook his head in amusement, and continued to walk away. He thought Kate had left, but he once again heard her voice, commenting teasingly.

"Hey, let me know about the results. Since you're going to win, there will be no harm in me telling all the islanders, right?"

And with that, she walked past Sawyer, winking and shoving him gently.
