YAY! My first fanfiction ever! So basically this picks up were the book left off, following Rose Weasley, and she's not as normal as she may seem...Sorry in advance for any spelling mistakes. Oh yeah, beware of DH spoilers. Alrighty then, enough of me, on with the story!
"Well, I wouldn't want to be in Hufflepuff, you know? Bunch of losers, that bunch is." Rose Weasley half listened to a boy as a boy with raven black hair said to her cousin Albus Potter in their compartment of the train. The boy had been ranting on about the four houses of Hogwarts for the past hour of the trip, and frankly Rose was fed up with it. I suppose it's normal, she thought to herself, for us first years to talk forever about the houses, but still, does this guy ever shut up? "Ravenclaw would be bearable I suppose, but I would die before I'd ever go in Slytherin." The boy continued his ranting about the houses. "Gryffindor's the place to be, if you ask me." Not that we asked you, Rose said sourly in her head. "What about you? What house are you going to be in?" Rose glanced at her cousin, who shifted nervously in his seat.
"Gryffindor, defiantly." Albus murmured. Rose knew how uncomfortable Albus was as she too didn't much care for talking to new people either. However, that didn't hold her back from jumping up and leaving the compartment when three more boys their age entered. She couldn't handle much more of rowdy boys she didn't know. Hopefully she'd be able to find James, the older brother of Albus, or Uncle George's kids, the twins, Fred Weasley Jr. and George Weasley Jr., although they were probably the worst of all rowdy boys. After a minutes of searching and not finding anyone, Rose decided that she'd just have to find her own compartment. Luckily for her, there was one compartment were three boys her age, eleven, were sitting quietly. One boy was the blonde her father had said to beat on every test and he sat quietly playing with another boy with dark hair and tanned skin. A boy of possible Asian and African descent sat alone staring out the window. Rose took the opposite seat of the boy by the window.
He looked up as she sat down. "Hey."
She quickly looked down, being as shy as she was, and quietly answered back an "Hello."
She was hoping that the conversation would end there, but no luck. He kept his sightly slanted blue eyes on her."My name's Robert Jordan, and you?"
"Rose Weasley. Aren't you the son of Lee Jordan? My Uncle George was friends of your dad." Although she kept her green eyes, freckled some what by deep blue specks, on Robert, she noticed the odd look the blonde boy gave her.
Robert nodded happily. "Yeah. My dad spoke a lot about the crazy Weasley twins. I heard there's a new set of them now, thanks to my four older siblings."
"Yes, Fred and George, just like the originals. You have four older siblings?"
He grimaced. "Im the fifth, which practically makes me the middle child, of seven kids. I've got three older brothers, one older sister, and three younger sisters. Trust me it sucks." He and Rose shared a laugh.
It was then that the blonde boy chose to talk. "You're a Weasley right? That must mean you'll go in Gryffindor right?" Great, another boy talking about the houses. Rose nodded. "Must be nice to be able to be proud about what house you're going into. Me and Blaze here don't have so much luck."
His friend Blaze groaned. "Come on Scorpius, we don't have to go in Slytherin. Your dad said so. Because your dad happens to be my dad at the moment, that goes for me as well and I say we follow it." She couldn't help but notice how Blaze kept emphasizing every couple of words. Blaze turned his attention to Robert and Rose. He held out his hand. "Blaze Zabini at your service. This is my god brother Scorpius Malfoy." Rose and Robert shook Blaze's hand and exchanged their names.
Rose turned to face Scorpius. "My dad said to beat you in every test. Why?"
His face was pale. "Is your dad Ron Weasley?" She nodded. "My dad, his friends, and your dad and his friends had feud going on. For very good reasons..." Yes, Rose knew all about those reasons, even though her family had tried to keep it secret from Rose. Problem was, Rose had a way to know things about people without wanting to. A secret she was sure to keep...
She grinned at him. "Well, I know about all that. I just wanted to make sure you did too." He looked at her nervously. "I don't keeping up with family feuds I didn't start. Want to put a end to it?" Blaze and Robert looked at Scorpius, waiting for a response. He only hesitated a second before grinning and nodding in agreement. She was glad, as were the three boys with her. No one wanted to start seven years of school with a feud of someone else's making. With all that said and done, the four new friends, for that is what they decided to be, began a small tournament of wizard chess. Being her father's daughter, Rose beat them all.
A few hours later and the train came to an abrupt halt. It was a little too bit abrupt for the standing up Rose and she went flying. Scorpius quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her up, but not before she got a flash of something she didn't want to see. A woman likely sat shivering in a corner. The room was dark and cold. The woman was muttering something unrecognizable. Suddenly a loud bang was heard and there was a green light. Rose was pulled out of her vision before she could see anymore. Scorpius looked at her strangely and asked if she was alright. She hardly managed a nod and rubbed her burning left wrist.
Blaze and Robert were jumping up and down on the seats. Blaze started yelling at them. "COME ON! WE ARE HERE. AT. HOGWARTS!"Blaze grabbed Scorpius, Robert grabbed Rose, and they all hurried to beat the rush of students getting off the train. It was dark outside and would have been easy to get trampled if Rose's cousins Fred and George hadn't come along and picked Rose up as to keep her safe from the overwhelming crowds.
"Well, well, my dear little cousin, here we meet at last." Fred said with a smirk.
Next to him, George held a identical smirk. "Careful now, wouldn't want you to get flattened."
"Yeah then you'd have to go home and-"
"We wouldn't get to annoy you all school year." The twins said in unison.
Fred dropped Rose once in the clear of the crowds. He ruffled her dark red and brown hair. "Be careful now." With that the twins disappeared and Rose hurried to catch up with Robert and the others. The guys were stopped dead in their tracks and Rose had to look up to see why. In front of all the small first years stood the biggest and hairiest man she had ever seen.
"Hagrid!" Rose cheered happily.
The gentle giant grinned at her. "Well if it isn't little Rose. Last I saw you weren't much more than an pup." She couldn't help but smile at the big man. Her friends and some other first years were looking at her as if she were crazy. "Well into the boats. Only six in a boat please."
Although she had tired to sit next to Robert and everybody else, Rose got stuck with Albus, the boy he been talking to earlier, some dirty blonde haired boy with an sully face, and two kids, boy and girl, who looked like twins. The girl carried a book entitled The Dragon Goat, Real or Not? with an dreamy look on her face. Her brother sat off to the side, his gray eyes sad. Both shared blonde hair, but the girl's was almost white blonde and the boy seemed to have a darker shade. After sizing the two up, Rose turned her attention to her cousin.
"Sorry for leaving you earlier Albus. I just couldn't take sitting with so many new people in such a small space." She told him.
He shrugged his shoulders. "It's alright. But I've made some friends." He motioned to the two other boys in the boats. The boat rocked gently as the boy with black hair made a move to greet Rose.
"Jesse James at your service my lady." The boy grinned at her. She faked a smile at him, not sure what to make of him just yet.
When the dirty blonde haired boy made no move to say anything, Jesse nudged him. The boy glared at Jesse, but responded. "Justin Kirk Grunge." The name Grunge fit him, as even in the school robes Justin appeared to be someone who always had a grunge look about them. Rose was taken back by Justin's coldness, but figured that he was probably always like that. Or rather she hoped so. The twins in the boat seemed lost in their own worlds and so no one made a move to speak to them. It didn't matter anyway as soon the self-moving boat reached a stop and all students quickly stepped out of the boats, all eager to get the house sorting done and over with.
Rose rejoined Robert, Blaze, and Scorpius as the first years were led up to the dining hall door. In front of them sat an orange Taby with green gold eyes. All but Robert were glancing about, wondering what was going on. He already knew what was going on, having four older siblings in school already, and was about to relay his information to his friends when the cat suddenly jumped and turned into a lady in her late thirties to mid thirties. The students, Robert excluded, were all taken back. The lady glowered at them all with her glowing dark green eyes. Her face was stern, but it seemed forced to Rose.
"I am Professor McGonagall and yes I am Headmistress McGonagall's daughter. In just a few moments you will enter these doors and be sorted into your houses. There are four of them: Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, which is my house, Hufflepuff, and...Slytherin." She said the last house with a bit of venom. "These will be your houses for the rest of your school lives. Your fellow house members will become like family to you. Your actions here will earn you house points, or lose points. At the end of the year the house with the most points will receive the house cup. Now wait right here." She entered dinging hall and closed the door behind her. At once the students began talking amongst themselves.
Blaze turned toward Scorpius. "So, picked a house yet?" A girl Rose hadn't noticed before cut in before Scorpius could say anything.
"Pick a house?" Rose and her friends turned to the pug face shaped girl with short black hair. "You don't pick a house, that's the sorting hat's job. And anyway you're a Malfoy, I should know as our parents had a past you know, and Malfoys always get put in Slytherin. Tulip Parkinson, pleased to meet you Scorpius and Blaze." Tulip shifted her gaze to Rose and Robert. "But not a pleasure to meet you. Let me guess, red hair...you're a Weasley, even without the traditional hamey-down robes, I can tell." She turned back toward Blaze and Scorpius. "You know, you really shouldn't hang around with trash like that, even if her family has finally made an inkling of something of themselves. They're still less than dirt." Tulip fixed her mud dirt brown eyes on Rose.
Rose could feel her friends, Albus, and his friends growing in rage. It was sweet of them, but Rose honestly didn't care what this girl said. However, Blaze did. "You said Parkinson right?"
Tulip grinned. "Yes, my mother is Pansy-"
"Pansy Free Love right? Yep, your mum had a past with Scorpius's dad, but then she had a past with everyman she saw." Blaze smirked and others snickered.
"How dare you!" Tulip hissed. She was about to say more, but Professor McGonagall entered.
"This way please, orderly fashion if you will." She ushered them in and all confidence Rose had went right out the window.
