Whoo-hoo, first chapter! All right! Let’s give me a big hand!

(crickets)

Or don’t…that works too…

Anyway, this is the first chapter of my WT-themed sequel to “Maybe”. Please enjoy!

Song—“Our Farewell”

Pairing—Feathertail x Crowpaw (because they rock enough for me to do a third songfic for them)

In my hands

A legacy of memories

I can hear you say my name

I can almost see your smile

Feel the warmth of your embrace

But there is nothing but silence now

Around the one I loved

Is this our farewell?

I remember the day we set out on our journey. You were so very cold, so self-reliant, so completely aloof.

And so utterly lonely.

Sweet darling, you worry too much

My child, see the sadness in your eyes

You are not alone in life

Although you might think that you are

My dear, sweet Crowpaw, why must you be so independent? Relying on others, making friendships with them, loving them—those aren’t signs of weakness! Oh, my darling soldier…

Never thought

This day would come so soon

We had no time to say goodbye

How can the world just carry on?

I feel so lost when you are not at my side

But there is nothing but silence now

Around the one I loved

Is this our farewell?

I am truly sorry for this sacrifice I’ve had to made for you—I know this will hurt you more deeply than anyone else, and oh, I am so sorry! But Crowpaw, you only have one life, the same as I, and I would truly rather die than live a life with the memory of you dying right in front of me, when I could have—so easily!—saved you.

Sweet darling, you worry too much

My child, see the sadness in your eyes

You are not alone in life

Although you might think that you are

Crowpaw, I apologize, but I do not regret. I know that you are young and strong and will live many more moons, and you will find another, someone to fill my place in your heart.

I swear to you, I will stay with you and do my best to guide you until the end of your days. Now please, let me go. Don’t worry, I won’t be gone forever! Your world is ending no more than mine is—and mine is not ending, it’s just undergoing a change. I am not leaving you, I’ll simply be there in a different way. It’s all right, Crowpaw, I swear it is.

So sorry your world is tumbling down

I will watch you through these nights

Rest your head and go to sleep

Because my child, this not our farewell.

Oh, my sweet Crowpaw—I love you, I truly do. I do not wish to leave you any more than you wish for me to go. But this was unavoidable. I will see you again someday—never forget that!

Remember, we aren’t saying “goodbye”—this is just a more permanent form of “goodnight”.

Please, Crowpaw, stop worrying; I see sadness lingering around you, and I do not wish for you to be sad—oh, you cannot imagine how many times over I would die before I wished to see you in pain! I cannot come back from this for you, but I can watch over you and hope that you are happy. And then, eventually, we will be together again. So, remember…

This is not our farewell.

AWWW, wasn’t that CUTE??

(crickets)

DAMN YOU, YOU STUPID BUGS!! (grabs random fencing foil and yanks off the rubber tip) DIE! DIE! DIE!!

(long pause)

Okay, I have officially lost the war against the crickets! They pulled my mom’s iPod out on me, and I was forced to surrender.

Well, anyway—I personally think that this was a pretty good chapter, right up until the end, when I kind of lost it and couldn’t think of a way to wrap it up. So I was doomed to repeat myself over and over. Ah well, this is a pretty difficult song to write for—it repeats a lot too!

Review!
