Chapter 7: Think well or bad just think of me
“Don’t you have someone else to annoy?”
I growled in exasperation, hoping the man would go away. Lucifer was hell bent on discovering why I had started to cry in the middle of the streets. By crying, I mean a wet streak, magically gone in less than 2 seconds. Usually, whenever my period arrived I’d be very moody. Start crying for the most stupid things ever, maybe it was compensation for my lack of emotional response in general.
Lucifer made another attempt at investigation, but I decided to ignore him by humming a song. The man grounded his teeth in anger and I knew I had won the battle for now. However, the war was just at its beginning.
“I want to know why you were crying.”
Not really a question, just a statement as if it was my duty to answer his curiosity. I ignored it naturally, if I were an actress I sure as hell would be Oscar material. The sound of knuckles snapping told me I was officially a pro at pissing Lucifer off. He tried his luck again, “Why were you crying?”
And I shot it down…in flames, “Because your mother didn’t abort you.”
Ignoring common sense, he continued to try out my patience.“Is it just me or are you a real bitch today?”
I laughed sinisterly, “Oh, it’s just you being a little sissy.”
Lucifer muttered under his breath, “Go get laid.”
I shot him an angry glare, “I'm sure you want that. Anyway, are you going to walk back and risk getting raped?”
The question was meant as a snide comment, but also as a check out. I knew the Disraeli Corp. building was a little distant from here, but I wasn’t going to offer the jerk anything. Lucifer seemed to think about something before happily replying, “No. You will give me a ride back.”
I scoffed amusedly, “I’m a charity service now?”
Lucifer seemed to be having a good time, “No, I’m paying for it.”
And on it went. We bickered all the way back to the office in my cute little car. Lucifer would make some asshole like comment and I’d respond with a smart and venomous retort. Sometimes the words had such venom to them people in nearby cars would look in our direction fearfully. I didn’t even care if I lost my job because of the seriously out of line replies. Of course the quarrel ended up with my unbreakable silence. Lucifer, the spoiled brat he was, would growl and call for my attention, but I always ignored him while whistling blissfully and looking elsewhere.
We went in silence back to the building and I sure was very happy about it. The lift clicked with a loud ding and Lucifer made a bee line to his office not even acknowledging Sara, whom said a small, thoroughly ignored hi. Sitting down triumphantly, I waited for Sara to ask me what in the world that was.
The girl eyed me curiously, “What’s with the big smile? What did you do to Lucifer?”
I snorted in an unladylike fashion, but who cares after I made the diva angry, “We went out to buy his suit and I ended up finding my newest project.”
I gladly showed my co worker the dress. Sara eyed it skeptically, but I wasn’t discouraged at all. Some people just can’t visualize the future prospects of materials. After I was done, that dress would be more then magnificent and Lucifer’s mom would be green with envy and angry it wasn't as unnoticeable as she wanted.
The rest of the day was sinfully boring since working on Lucifer's officer didn’t really provide much work to do. The legal department in here was too competent. Overall, I was over paid to sit and rot all day long. Sara though, said it was almost a miracle that I had been hired. Not in the evil sense, but because I helped her do her chores and supposedly my helping hand would save the girl many hours of suffering.
We were happily storing things and finishing some papers to call it a day when I remembered something. “Hey Sara, are you going to the "Let's find Luce a bride" party?”
The blond made a huge no-no gesture with her arms, assuring me she knew what I was talking about, "What, of course not!”
Now, I couldn’t help, but be angry. Everyone knew about Lucifer's problems? I shrugged, but happily offered the girl, “Well, you can go if you want. I’ll tell them I invited you.”
Sara didn’t seem convinced at all, her face had disbelief written all over it. “Alexiel, they will never let me in. Besides I have a date on that day.”
With a huge grin, she seemed to contemplate about some stupid lovebird activity. I pondered if I should come out and tell her my family was hosting the party, but with her silly antics, rolling my eyes in disgust was the only option available. Really, why is everything about dating nowadays?
We said our goodbyes as usually and went our separate ways. I didn’t see Lucifer even once, it was too bad as well, I had remembered about paying him the money. I let it go for the day, my body simply ordering me to go back home. Rosiel probably cooked today. My face cringed a little with anticipation. He had the best intentions, but his cooking skills were beyond bad.
“This is really good.” I must have said for the twelfth time already.
Rosiel only gave me a nasty glare while thoroughly ignoring his boyfriend’s blushing thank you. As luck would have it, Rosiel had brought his date along in hopes of having some romantic time. However, once I arrived and jokingly said I’d kill the man if he did anything to my brother, I ended up killing the mood.
Now, all three of us set happily eating at the table, the two lovebirds on the right side and me, the mood killer, all alone on the other. I took a spoonful of the soup, ignoring Rosiel’s go the hell away looks. I knew I was being a third wheel, but there was no way I would let these two alone. “So, what do you do Katan?”
Katan shyly brushed his silver bangs behind his ear, a red hue on his cheeks from all the teasing. Very shy type. “I’m an assistant to a very rich lawyer.”
I nodded in response, having one of those sixth sense moments I decided to check it out. “Is he famous?”
Katan seemed to relax around me for a bit, I was being nice after all. It’s not like I was evil or something. “He doesn’t work with it anymore, but I heard he was a hit in his younger days when working with criminal law. Cain Hargreaves, you know him?”
I almost laughed, but Rosiel’s well placed kick on my knee kept all of the mirth at bay. I was seriously making an effort not to simply state ‘having fun in dad’s office, little bro?’ Not wanting to be a bitch, I kept quiet about it, playing dumb instead. “No, don’t know him.”
Rosiel smirked pleased by my cooperation and decided to let me know my company was not welcomed. “Big sister, you have that dress to fix right? It’s getting late and the party is coming up. You should work on it. ”
He eyed the mentioned fabric while silently uttering for me to get lost. By the way he said should as a must, there was a risk that if not complied to he would throw a fit or even worse give me the silence treatment. I gave them both a fake smile. “Yes, I’ll have to leave you now. Good night.”
Katan looked like he wanted to say something, but whatever it was Rosiel quickly grasped his attention, leaving me to take the dress and make a straight line to the bedroom.
With the gown in hand, I closed the room’s door tightly and kept the CD player ready if the need for it would arise. Getting the scissors and taking some line and needle, I set to make the dress presentable for the incoming celebration. The first thing I did was cutting its back to get rid of the noticeable tearing at the end.
The material was fairly easy to cut and the bodice design made it easy to take off fabric without ripping any important detail. After I was done removing the back, everything else was a piece of cake. I was just finishing stitching it when Rosiel came in. “It’s just 10, since when do you finish this early?”
He eyed me curiously then pointed in the direction of the clock. “Its 1 am.”
I gave a start, throwing the needle over the bed carelessly. It was true too, the clock marked with its big, glittering, red numbers 1 am precisely. I was so entertained by the dress, I didn’t realize at all the hours. I gathered the sewing material and practically shoved it inside the box, waiting for Rosiel to come to bed. He was busy putting a few spare cloths inside his favorite backpack though.
“Not sleeping here today?”
Rosiel zipped the pack then looked at me deviously. “You have the bed all for yourself.”
He kissed me goodbye and went jumping gaily to the door. I scoffed at his careless attitude, getting rid of the heavy covers. Slipping in something more comfortable and laying down, it didn’t take long before my eyes closed and I went into peaceful slumber.
My breathing was ragged and short, each intake of air loud and accompanied by a sharp moan. The sensation was overpowering and made my very knees go soft. I could feel hands roaming my whole body, pinching and exploring making involuntary sounds surface. I was close to the edge just a few more moves and I would be there, screaming my pleasure. “Please.”
I heard a familiar chuckle, realization hitting me like a slap in the face. Black hair and tempest eyes, his smirk was sickening. Before I could say anything else, he made a sharp move sending me over the last border. In my efforts to breathe properly, I could hear his triumphant voice. “You can’t deny me this, you belong to me.”
Jolting out from bed, I screamed in desperation. “No!”
My breathing was ragged once more, but not out of pleasure as it had been earlier. I was distressed beyond comprehension. Why would I dream something like this? Everything was registered into my brain, his laugh and his claim. My body was covered in sweat and something else, confessing my shameful desires.
It was almost 8 am, so taking a bath and going on my way was the best option. Only in the way to the work after my brain had started to think straight did I remember who I was going to meet when I arrived. However, my stupid pride couldn’t let him have this power over me. I would walk through the door just like in every other day and I’d be fine.
In a rare moment of sheer luck, I didn’t run into Lucifer even once during the earlier hours. He had gone out to do some important task and I was not needed. From ten am to four pm, I stood writing down papers and answering phones, dreading the very instant Lucifer would come through the door.
My neurosis trigger finally arrived at five pm, walking as if the place was his, which it was, but he didn’t have to walk like there were huge angry crimson letters on his forehead saying ‘ the owner’. He made his way to me and Sara, causing my heart to beat faster than usual. I couldn’t speak as the images from the morning came back to haunt me. You can’t deny me this, you belong to me.
“What’s the matter with you?”
I choked, but after a little hoarse coaxing from my hand, my voice was let out of its confinement. “Nothing.”
Lucifer let it go for the time, but his curious look let me know he would ask about it later. “The party is tomorrow, don’t forget. I’ll let you go earlier and at 7 pm I’ll catch you.” He contemplated if anything more needed to be said and found none. “You don’t look well; you may go home if you want.”
Eyeing the clock once more, I sat down trying to cool my head a little. I still had a day more before going to the party, my anxiety skyrocketing to almost an impossible level. It was really funny if one thought about it. The party was going to be hosted by my parents and in my old house no less, but it didn’t make difference for my emotional state, going home or not. Even if I tried to look at it hopefully, going to the party meant having to tell my parents where I had been for the past two years, to update them on some things and also having to keep Lucifer in check.
The hours passed rather faster than I wanted, faster than I could take it. With a fading grin on face I said my farewells to Sara, Taking the same old way back home, I opened the door with much effort. My feet seemed glued to the floor.
Rosiel wasn’t home yet so I figured he was having loads of fun somewhere with the new cute slave boy my father hired. I let go of those thoughts as the warm water run through my hair and neck, washing away the sweat and stress of the day. I spent a good thirty minute wasting the planets precious fluid before I felt relieved enough.
Forgetting about the next day, I let sleep take over hoping I would not be assaulted in my dreams by the handsome and frosty prince charming. Funny, prince charming seemed like such a good word for him as of late.
Dream*
The house wasn’t any different from before. Still the same bolstering Greek like pillars, my father loved so much, a steadfast base for the triangular shaped roof and the white solid walls with its huge collection of glass windows. The garden was decorated with the same old statues of angelic women and the fences still so green they seemed more likely to be made of plastic.
Paying more attention to myself I realized I was a child. A perfect copy of my long past eleven years old with ridiculous ponytails and all, but more importantly, I was in the middle of a party. Looking a little lost, I heard my mother call for me."Alexiel come here!"
I did as told, eyeing my mother suspiciously. When I was close enough I was surprised to find Roxanne, a man and a little boy talking to my parents. What was that old hag doing here? I noticed that she didn’t look as old, actually, this was Roxanne only 16 years younger! Time did wonders, ha! Once my presence was acknowledged Roxanne, giggled loudly, "Oh my, such a beautiful little girl, Kadamon."
My mother smiled proudly and brought me forward for inspection. By now, I safely assumed the man near her was my dream representation of Lucifer's dad. The boy was obviously Lucifer himself. Being bold enough, I smiled for him and got a nervous reaction. Lucifer hid behind his mother's leg, trying to ignore me. In turn, she scolded him and pushed him forward to play with me. The adults left, leaving behind this sullen expression kid.
Because I was always a nice kid, the dream 'me' made a move before I could say anything. "So do you want to play?"
The boy was snide in return, answering with a superiority air around him, "I don’t want to play with you."
Even then he was infuriating, "Why not?"
Lucifer looked at me, but instead of being superior he was hesitant, not so sure anymore of the reasons why he didn’t want to play. Kid me thought this a yes and pushed him to the water pound by the hand. I was so cute. "Come on, let's play."
Snobbish and difficult, Lucifer quarreled with my grip, yelling for me to let go. Just for spite and knowing he would fall in the water, I let go. Little prince fell down with a scream, splashing water in everything near, including me, but I was too engrossed in laughter to be angry at it. Coming out of the pound, he surprised me with a malicious grin. Just as I was about to ask him what, he grabbed me by the arm and pushed me forward into the water, grinning victoriously. I fell down on top of him, but strangely enough he started laughing, enjoying himself. "You're strange!"
Lucifer lifted a smooth eyebrow in amusement, ignoring my question. "I bet I can swim faster than you to the other side."
Always ready for a challenge, I accepted in stride, "You're on! The winner gets a prize."
Then we launched ourselves with all the strength we could muster, two flashes of cloths making their way to the other side of the little lake. I was focused on my swimming, but every few moments glanced at my opponent to see my position. I swam fast enough, but in the end Lucifer arrived at the other side with a happy cry. His expression was sickeningly smug, "Now, I want my prize!"
Grumpy for the loss, I began, "Take whatever you-"
By then Lucifer pressed a chaste kiss to my lips, cutting my angry response in its middle. Too confused to do anything, I kissed him awkwardly, not knowing how to do it correctly.
End of dream* or was it just a dream?
Next up! The Party!
