My Close Encounter
Kat Hamilton
Disclaimer: I own no one, this is fiction.
Warning: Bizarreness awaits you my friend.
Personal Favor: Bitch at me if this sucks or if I get some continuity wrong. I'll deserve it. I've only seen the complete 1st season and then a lot of random episodes on Comedy Central.
Timeline: I'd place this somewhere between "My Cake" and "My Lunch".
"Talking" / "Thinking"/ Daydreams
We good to go? Let's do this!
Trivia: My girl names for JD in this fic will have theme. It'll be a little harder to guess the first couple of chapters. Also so will my patients names.
"There is an alarming number of patients in hospitals around the country becoming miraculously cured-"
Turk turned the TV off and threw the remote across the room.
JD dove for the device and scrambled to get the TV back on. "Hey! I was watching that!" He got it back on and was disappointed to find that the anchor had already moved on to another story
"Dude. You've been watching CNN, MSNBC and all the other news channels practically non-stop for two days." Turk tossed him hoodie and backpack. "We gotta go to work today."
"Alright." He sighed as he threw on the hoodie and followed Turk out the door. "I've been trying to see that news story for the past two days. I always manage to somehow just catch the ending of it. It's like every time I want to watch the Scorpion King on TV."
JD steps in the door dressed in his scrubs as Turk is eating popcorn transfixed to the screen. "What's on C-bear?"
"Dude. The Scorpion King is... AWESOME! You have GOT to see this next time it comes on."
A couple of weeks later JD steps into the apartment dressed up in pirate outfit. "Trick or treat?"
Turk is on the couch dressed up as a zombie staring blankly at the screen. "Dude, the Rock is amazing in this movie."
Then next JD comes in the door holding a bunch of presents in his hand. "Turk? Can you give me a hand here?"
Turk has a Santa hat on and doesn't even look behind him at JD. "In a minute JD, the movie is almost over."
JD falls forward and the presents go everywhere. After a few seconds JD climbs up onto the couch and looks at the screen. "Scorpion King?"
"Yeah man you should totally watch this movie."
He'd promised myself that later on in the day if he ever got the chance to sit down for ten minutes he'd flip through every news channel and find the damn story. All JD knew was that patients at hospitals all over the country were being miraculously healed. The story kept getting bigger and bigger, but he kept catching the tail end of it and it was driving him nuts.
Carla had to go in earlier than us they did so JD gave Turk a ride on the back of his scooter. "You ready C-bear?"
"High gear baby!" Turk let out a woo as they sped down the street on the scooter towards the hospital. Halfway to the hospital he yelled out. "Wheelie! Come on!" As JD leaned back and actually got the scooter to do a wheelie Turk raised his arms. "WWOOOOOO!"
And then it happened, a pot hole. JD ended up falling to the side, Turk went backwards and landed on his head. JD panicked and ran up to him. "Turk are you alright?"
"JD? Is the Scorpion King over yet? I wanna watch Sanford and Son."
Carla wasn't too happy when she saw the minor bruise on her husband's head. "What is wrong with you Turk? Were you telling JD to do tricks on the scooter again?"
Turk rubbed the back of his head. "At least I was wearing a helmet."
"I thought those were supposed to protect you from head injuries." JD rubbed the back of his best friends head.
"Bambi you have to stop doing stupid things like that. You could get you or Turk seriously hurt."
JD nodded. "Yeah yeah. Won't happen again." He was too busy admiring the shine of Turk's head. "It's like a crystal ball. I wonder if I could tell the future in it."
JD's face appears on the back of Turks head with a turban on his head and his face painted blue. "Mecca lecca hi, mecca hiney ho. JD better look behind ya bro."
"Why am I blue?"
A sharp whistle brought JD out of his trance. "Now Pam, I know you want to make sure that your make-up looks okay but we do have lives to save." He turned around to see Dr. Cox and receive a pile of charts. "Mrs. Copeland has been on the crabby side today too. It seems she's going through menopause and PMS at the same time. I told her the pharmacy was fresh out of Midol and that I would hunt you down so I could get 2 or 28."
"I get it. I'm a girl."
Dr. Cox started applauding. "Bravo Newbie! I knew you would get over the denial of your parents lying to you all these years." He started to walk away. "But Joan, you're a boy, we promise! Let's throw all these dolls out, have a Tonka truck, no no put the My First Manicure playset back..."
"He's in a slightly better mood than usual." JD noted.
"He got you to admit you're a girl in front of half the ICU." Turk pointed out.
"Damn it."
JD went on his rounds and passed the Janitor standing in front of the elevator. He had a determined look on his face as he was buffing the stainless steel. "Are you actually cleaning something other than the floor?"
Janitor glared at him. "If you must know I'm a busy man around here. I can't take the time like you can to check myself in the bathroom mirror. So I'm gonna polish this baby up so good, everyone will be able to see themselves in it like a mirror."
JD went to touch the smooth metal. "It's really shiny-"
Janitor slapped his hand away. "You get a single finger print on this... you'll pay."
JD backed away from the Janitor to look over his charts and see the same thing he'd seen every day. Heart attacks, accidents, overdoses... It made him feel depressed until he came to his last chart. "Oh my God." Mr. Calloway a man who had come in with renal failure, who was literally days away from dying with a transplant was... Fine. Tests from earlier this morning showed that everything in his system was normal, like he'd never had a kidney problem. "This can't be."
"What's the matter Sadie? Did the plans for that Sex and the City movie fall through?"
JD ignored his mentor's comments and showed him the patient history. "Look, five months ago Mr. Calloway came in with Chronic Renal Disease. It'd progressed quickly, you can see he's-"
"Newbie. I get it, he was pretty bad off."
JD flipped to the most recent page. "He's perfectly fine. The scans, the tests. He's as healthy as if he'd gotten a brand new kidney."
"Did you see the patient?"
"Huh?"
"Did you see Mr. Calloway Anna?"
"Uh... no."
Dr. Cox shoved the chart into his hands. "This could've been a lab mix-up and for all you know your patient could be in extreme pain wondering, "OH DEAR GOD WHERE'S MY DOCTOR AT?" Do you really ever think-"
"Doctor Dorian?" A weak feeble voice said from behind them.
JD looked and smiled at the man sitting up his bed smiling widely. "Hello, Mr. Calloway. How are you feeling this morning?"
"Never better! I feel like a new man almost! You won't believe it but last night-"
Dr. Cox pulled the young doctor out of the doorway. "You got lucky." He stormed off down the hallway.
"I'll be right back Mr. Calloway." JD followed Dr. Cox down the hallway. "I can't believe he's-"
Dr. Cox stopped and turned to face him and said in a whiny voice, "you can't believe he's cured! It's a miracle!" When he saw the smile on his face he rolled his eyes. "There's no such thing as miracles."
"Actually they've been talking about it all over the news Dr. Cox. Patients miraculously recovering from all types of diseases. I keep catching the end of it, have you seen the story-"
"Newbie. I only have time to watch two things: anything sports related and Days of Our Lives. I barely care about the lives and problems of people I do have the displeasure of knowing."
"Ah ha! So he does care."
"Why would I care about the lives and problems of people I don't know?" Dr. Cox turned passed the nurses desk. "And why are you still following me?"
"I uh-" JD looked over at Carla and Laverne. "Oh! You're not going to believe this! One of my patients-"
"Oh God Lil. Can it! Just because a patient seemed to get better doesn't mean that they are. For all you know Mr. Calloway could be do doped up on medication he thinks he 25 years old again and the test results could be wrong."
Laverne put the phone down and turned to JD. "Like all those patients on the news?"
"Uh... sure exactly. About that story, do they have any clue as to what caused the patients to suddenly get better?"
"Well the patients have all had the same story. They said they saw a white light and felt like they were levitating. Then they saw figures floating around them whispering and when they were put back in their room they were never better."
"Aliens?" JD's eyes went wide. "My secret desire to be abducted and studied by beings from another plant might finally come true!"
"I'd say it was Angels." Laverne shuffled some papers around.
Dr. Cox smiled and started laughing. "I'd say it was bunch of coincidences as I don't believe in God, therefore do not believe in Angles, and I don't think that Aliens would ever want to visit this planet."
Carla sighed and grabbed her coffee mug. "Dr. Cox, can you at least try to believe in something for once?"
Dr. Cox started to walk away. "If aliens or angels are real they'd better come and take me to convince me."
And as if on cue two cylinders of light appeared on either side of Dr. Cox. Two human-like creatures stood next to him when the light cleared. They both were extremely pale and had no hair with long pointy ears. The older doctor looked between them, confused for a second while he scratched his nose. "Sorry boys but I think you're in the wrong place for a Star Trek convention."
JD cleared his throat. "Dr. Cox you should back away."
"Oh shut up Newbie. You don't I can't handle a couple of geeks with some special effects? Tell ya what, when you're more of a man than I am you can tell me how to handle a situation. Which I doubt will ever happen unless I got a sex change and even then I'd probably ooze more test-"
A bright white and a blast of hot air blinded everyone or knocked them to the ground.
Carla was heard screaming Dr. Cox's name as everyone got up. "Perry? Come on!" She was kneeled next to his body and shaking him. "He's unconscious."
"Time to take charge." JD crawled over to Dr. Cox and Carla. He checked for a pulse and thanked God that he had one. A moaning sound was heard as Dr. Cox started to move. "Dr. Cox you shouldn't."
"Newbie shut the hell up."
"Oh my God."
Dr. Cox slowly stood up and noticed everyone looking at him. "What are you idiots staring at? I just got clocked by a couple of Sci-Fi geeks."
"Dr. Cox?" JD's jaw was on his chest.
"Not now. I'm going to take a ten in the break room. Don't disturb me." He started to walk away and past his reflection a few times. It was only when he was passing the elevator. He turned to face it and saw his reflection in the now extremely shiny metal. He stared at it, and moved his body seeing the reflection doing the same exact thing. Then he felt his face and body...
And fainted.
