“Elendra wake up it’s your 21st birthday after all,” Hermione said knocking on her sister’s door hard

“Elendra wake up it’s your 21st birthday after all,” Hermione said knocking on her sister’s door hard. Elendra wasn’t Hermione’s real sister. Hermione’s parents had found her when she was a baby or so Hermione was told when she was old enough.

“Five more minutes you evil witch,” Hermione heard her sister call.

“Fine but Mum and Dad are waiting with your birthday cake,” Hermione said.

“Fine but I get the first piece,” Elendra yelled back her voice somewhat muffled by her pillows.

Elendra pulled herself out of bed and went to her adjoining bathroom. She took her hair out of the bun she wore to bed and placed it on her bathroom sink. She turned on the hot water and splashed her face. When she looked in the mirror a cry rose from her throat.

“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,” Elendra screamed. She reached up to her ears and felt pointy ears instead of round ones. Her skin was getting a glow to it and her hair became longer and got waves through out its length. She had also grown taller.

“What is it Elendra,” Mrs. Granger called up to her adopted daughter.

“HELP,” Elendra shouted back examining her new ‘look’. The door burst open and revealed a stunned Hermione and a worried Mr. and Mrs. Granger.

“What the bloody hell happened Elendra,” Hermione asked.

“Hermione Jane Granger watch your language,” Mrs. Granger said trying her best not to shout at her daughter’s use of language.

“But you didn’t shout at Elendra when she got a tattoo or when she announced she would live at home until she graduated from Auror training and got a good enough salary to get a good apartment,” Hermione said.

“Because Hermione she was 18 when she got the tattoo and the low priced apartments were just plain nasty and the neighborhoods were horrible,” Mr. Granger said.

“Okay now that, that matter is settled can someone explain my change in appearance and why it happened now,” Elendra said.

“I think we must show you something first,” Mr. Granger said as he led the girls and his wife upstairs. They walked upstairs and to the attic. The Grangers led them to a door. Mr. Granger took out a key and unlocked it. He opened the door and reached through the cobwebs to pull out a small wooden trunk. It looked so old with many ancient carvings in a language that none of them knew.

“What’s this,” Elendra asked her adoptive mother.

“This is what you were on top of when we found you. There was also a letter that we were told to give you when you went through your change,” Mrs. Granger said pulling a letter from the top. It looked old and worn.

“Are you it was from my real parents,” Elendra asked drawing her wand from her back pocket.

“Yes we’re sure,” Mr. Granger said.

“Okay then,” Elendra said putting away her wand and reaching for the letter. She opened it and read.

Our Dearest Elendra,

It is with great sorrow that we must part from you. You are our daughter nonetheless and one day it will be time for you to see us again. But this letter is not all about our love for you. Since you are reading this letter it must mean that you have reached the age when the enchantment we placed upon no longer works. Now we only have a short time before the evil that lives in the east knows of our plan. Now our dear Elendra is where we inform you of your heritage. You are not a normal witch. You are Elendra of the Lothlorien. You are an Elf in all respects which will help explain your change of appearance. Elendra now we know this information might not settle easy with you but you must accept it. Even now we fear that evil is spreading in our world and when you receive this letter it might already risk the destruction of our Elven lives. It is of the utmost importance that you do not tell you adoptive family the contents of this letter. You must travel back to your homeland Middle Earth and to Rivendell you must travel on the mearas Alevan a horse who I have foreseen you riding home on. I know that it is a great burden to ask you to turn your back on everything you have ever known but we ask this not only as people but as your parents who gave you up for your own protection you decide melanin. At the first hour tomorrow go to the back of your childhood home place your Evenstar that was a gift from Elrond to you on and look to the west. The moment you enter Middle earth you will land not far from Rivendell. Just whistle the tune you remember us singing to you as a child and Alevan will come. To get inside Rivendell say that you must see Lord Elrond. Tell him your name and he will know what to do. You will be trained in archery and sword fighting. Your Ada sits next to me as I write this and he hopes you will inherit his spirit and ability to learn quickly. This trunk has everything you’ll need a sword, a bow, arrows and traveling robes with shoes along with a traveling bag. Your armor will be given to you by Elrond. One more thing bring the trunk with you. We assume you know the enchantment. We love you our little elf always.

Your Ada and mother,

Lady Galadriel

Lord Celeborne

Elendra read the letter five times over. Her parents and adoptive sister looked at her with questioning eyes.

“Well Elendra what’d it say,” Hermione asked. Elendra looked at her parents ignoring Hermione’s question.

“Have you ever looked inside the trunk,” Elendra asked.

“No we have not,” Mrs. Granger replied, “Why did they mention that we could look?”

“No they said for you not to look and for me not to read the letter to you all,” Elendra said closing the trunk.

“Why,” Hermione asked.

“I don’t know they gave me no explanation. Now how about we dig into that cake,’ Elendra said earning a laugh form her adoptive family all except Hermione.

“Now there’s our Elendra,” Mr. Granger said as he left with Mrs. Granger. Hermione watched her parents leave and then turned a hard eye on her sister who was locking the trunk and about to levitate it out.

“Tell me what the letter said,” Hermione asked her sister. Elendra turned to Hermione.

“I can’t do that,” Elendra said as she left the trunk trailing behind her leaving Hermione to wonder what the letter said.

The rest of Elendra’s birthday went well but everyone could tell that Elendra’s mind was not on her birthday. When it was eight Elendra excused herself for a moment. She went in the backyard to think or get some fresh air is what she told the Grangers. Hermione looked from the window and saw her sister sitting in her favorite tree and she could tell by her sister’s face that she was thinking about something very important. Hermione kept watching her sister until she came in. She watched her sister’s every movement. But when her sister asked to retire early to her room Hermione knew that something was wrong. Elendra never retired early she was always up late and could go days without sleeping. Hermione eventually came to the conclusion that her sister would tell her when she was ready.

Elendra waited until everybody was asleep before packing a light traveling bag that was in the trunk. She packed the extra traveling clothes that she was not using as well as the extra boots. She wore a light green riding outfit and dark brown boots. She took the cloak she was given and put it on along with the pendant that her mother mentioned. She strapped the sword on as well as her arrows which fill their carrier. She shrinks the bag and puts it in a pocket on the inside of the cloak then she looks at the time. It is ten till one. She makes a grab for her wand and hides it in her left boot. She looks at herself in the mirror and sees herself looking much more mature than ever before. Elendra silently closes her door and walks outside trying not to wake anyone. She quickly stops by her parents room and leaves a letter and gives them each a kiss on the forehead. But unknown to her Hermione was still awake.

Hermione couldn’t sleep. She feared Elendra would never tell her. Suddenly she hears a sound coming from Elendra’s room then the door closing. Hermione soon hears the house door open and close. She runs to her window and sees Elendra in the backyard looking west. She quickly dresses and runs out to meet her sister not noticing that it is five minutes before one. She runs out and sees Elendra looking very different.

“Elendra what are you doing out here,” Hermione asked walking up behind her sister.

“Hermione get back inside,” Elendra says.

“No not until you tell me why you’re dressed this way,” Hermione asked.

“Because I’m leaving and not coming back,” Elendra says. Hermione backs away from her sister and is in shock. Hermione lets the information sink in. Then in a spur of the moment decision Hermione lunges at her sister touching her hand just as a white light appears .
