You're all intelligent readers. I'm sure you can figure this one out on your own. I was in a ranting mood, so... here.

Disclaimer: Props to TSE!!

The moon was rising to a tentative height, looking down upon her Jellicles fondly as they gathered for this year’s Ball. Her pale light shone brightly, illuminating the Jellicle clearing so all could see. The light glinted on their groomed fur, softly echoing her shine. She could not help but smile down upon them, for they were her children, her family.

Well… not that one.

That one had come into the junkyard mere minutes after she had risen, walking with an air of grace and perfection the moon had never seen in another cat. Her fur was so sleek that its sheen rivaled that of the moon’s own shine. Her footfalls were light and caressed the earth with their soft touch, barely making their sound audible, even to feline ears. When she spoke, which was not often, he voice had a lilting melody to it, entrancing those near.

She had not made the acquaintance of many of the Jellicles so far this night, but the moon knew it was only a matter of time before she had every one of them wrapped around her little claw. She had targeted the resident magician first, flicking her tail in a sensual rhythm, brushing it gently against his flank. The moon had frowned down upon the two of them, disappointed when the magician had not been able to resist the queen’s charms.

However, snaring the most sought-after tom had not been enough for this little queen, for she had then abandoned the magician and took to charming the Curious Cat with a slight swagger of her hips. The moon did not hear what she said, but it must have been pleasing to him, for she left him dumbstruck.

Next she had visited the kittens, laughing a high-pitched giggle that sounded like the tinkling of bells. She had shown off her dance and song, possessing skills far greater than any of the others.

As such, she was immediately instructed to dance and sing the invitation all by herself, an event that had never happened in the history of the Jellicles.

This newcomer was loved by all the Jellicles, be they queen or tom. The queens did not care that she had snagged the affections of all the toms. The toms all spoke in whispers when she came near and fought silently over who was to have her when she was away. The leader himself announced that she was his daughter, something the moon knew to be false.

For you see, this creature was not a Jellicle, or even a cat. She was merely an imitation, fashioned by the minds of the weak in their struggles against a plague commonly called ‘writer’s block.’ The moon knew how these creatures came to being, but that did not make her bathe them in her loving glow, accepting them as her children.

These creatures were nothing more than an outer shell, a marble statue come to life.

The moon smiled contentedly, watching the creature below twirl in and out of the crowd of Jellicles, stealing the others’ dances without missing a step. This may have upset the moon in previous years, but she knew by now that each of these creatures met their end at the close of the Ball.

For every time one of these marble shells wandered into the Jellicles’ midst, they were miraculously chosen to ascend to the Heaviside Layer, to her domain. There she may do as she will with them.

The moon turned her face away from the Jellicles, leaving them in darkness. She had no desire to watch the events unfolding below her, for, come morning, her children will have escaped from the clutches of this monstrosity. They will have delivered this undeserving creature into her care, and will continue on as if it had never crossed their paths.

This, inevitably, is the fate of the Marmories Sui.
