Chapter 1: Bad news

“Joe, give me the remote! We’re not watching that!” Kevin said to Joe on a Saturday morning…

“Oh common Kevin… Why not? This is a great show!” Joe replied.

”No it’s not! And Frankie is coming down any minute and this isn’t a show for him to watch…” Kevin told Joe

“But can’t we just watch it until then?” Joe asked Kevin…

“Oh just let him watch it Kevin…” Nick said as Kevin was going to reply to Joe… “Okay fine we can watch it but as soon Frankie comes down you change the channel…” Kevin told Joe.

Few minutes later their father came down stairs…

“Oh hey d-… what’s wrong?” Kevin asked when he saw tears in his father’s eyes…

“I’m afraid I have some bad news boys…” their dad said to them…

“What’s wrong dad?” Nick asked… looking serious…

Their dad sits down in front of them… “There is no easy way of telling you this… I just got a call from the priest… grandpa is dead…” their dad told them…

“What?” they said anonymously “But how?” Kevin asked… “He was so healthy…”

“He got a heart attack last night…” their father said.

“This was a wonderful ceremony Kevin… your dad would have been happy about it…”

Kevin saw that man talking to his dad… “Hey Joe do you know that guy?” Kevin asked Joe.

“No… maybe it’s just one of grandpa’s old friends…” Joe replied… “Let’s ask Nick”

“Nick… do you know that guy?” Joe asked Nick “No I don’t… I don’t know half the people here so it’s no good to ask me… Kevin was the one who knew grandpa the best”

“Yeah… he seems pretty down… but do you remember when we came to grandpa and he was with his friends or something and he got mad when we came in and disturbed him…?” Joe asked Nick.

“No… well maybe a little but I think I was only like four then or something…” Nick said.

“I think this guy was one of them…” Joe said “Yeah I think you’re right Joe…” Kevin said.

“Well I’m going to get some cake… want some?” Joe said.

“Yeah sure… Why not?” Kevin said “Nick?”

“Sure… there’s a chocolate cake there…” Nick said.

Few days later…

“Okay what do you want to do today?” Joe asked Nick and Kevin.

“I don’t know what do you think Kevin?” Nick said.

Their dad comes down… “I have an idea… How would you like to check out your new house?”
