Chapter 2: Captured

"Raito, I’m bringing Misa here," L said. Even under the bright light of the cell his hair was as opaque as his eyes. "And you will convince her to give me the second notebook."

So Misa did hide it. Good girl. She would be duly rewarded. Raito had thought to kill her after he was rid of L, but the girl had proven to be incredibly useful, and though far below Raito's IQ, she understood Kira's ideals and his will perfectly.

Misa somehow managed to know that L was coming for her and hid the death note. As for Rem, as long the notebook remains hidden, she'll not give away anything that will compromise Misa's innocence. Question is whether Misa relinquished ownership and lost her memories? No, knowing Misa, she'll want to stay aware of her abilities since she'll be useless to me otherwise. But if she buried it or something of the like, killings must have stopped the very day L arrested me. She will be under suspicion and strict surveillance.

...What am I thinking, she's already largely suspected as the second Kira and L has no doubts, he is just missing the evidence. Obviously, he has promised Rem not to convict Misa even if she is proven to be the second Kira, or else Rem would have killed him by now. ...It's no use, I need to get out of here and find out what's going on...

"Raito-kun..."

"You don’t honestly believe I’ll do anything of the sort? And here I thought you were smart."

L sighed. “I had determined Raito-kun wouldn't tell me anything. Even so, I thought he should know that if he cooperates he might be let off that jacket - to start. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to eat and go to the toilet on your own, without someone else's arms used in place of yours?" he asked glancing down at Raito's tied up sleeves. "I know Raito-kun values his pride."

The teen gave a sharp laugh. "Pride would require I tell you nothing. Besides you should figure out where the death note is; you're the world’s top investigator here."

"Where do you think she would hide it?"

"You don't give up do you?" he said with a dark smirk. “I don’t know and even if I did I wouldn’t tell you!” he sang scornfully.

After a long silence L rested a knee on the floor. The other was drawn up where he propped an arm while biting his thumb. "Kira, give it up. You lost.” His tone hardened and with a smirk, he added. "Kira-kun owes me; after all I did spare him from his worst fear – death."

“Fuck you! This isn’t over!”

“Yes it is.”

Raito burst into laughter. “As long as I live, justice will be served! Criminals will die!”

“Now how does Raito-kun know the killings haven’t stopped when I arrested him?”

Damn it, he caught on. Does that mean Misa is unable to continue writing names?

“Because Misa won’t fail me.” he stated firmly.

“I happen to have Amane-san under twenty-four hour surveillance. She is staying at Headquarters again.”

Raito shook his head, his long brown hair tickled his face as it brushed against the skin. “Like I said she won’t fail me. Criminals are being judged as we speak.” He bluffed.

L focused his narrowed eyes on the youth for a good minute before uttering, “Raito-kun is clever.” was all he said, and Raito knew that somehow Misa managed to find a way for the continuity of criminal judgments. Perhaps she found someone as a makeshift while both Kiras were incapacitated. Hopefully the substitute would do a good job of it.

Raito smirked. “You’ll never defeat Kira,” he sneered, “L.”

At that, the skin between L's eyes furrowed slightly and his nostrils flared almost unnoticeably, but Raito caught all his subtle gestures. That little jibe had piqued the arrogant bastard and Raito’s maniac grin split his face. Your pathetic feelings for me will be your undoing. If you had been smart, you would have let them sentence me to death. As long as I live, I’ll only think of killing you. I will kill you.

Releasing another long sigh, L closed his eyes, his face once again stoic as he shook his head sadly. "I hate seeing Raito-kun like this. He has lost his sanity. Was Kira worth it?"

That had pushed a nerve in the teen. He knew he was a genius; he knew his beliefs were controversial and extreme but that was because they were true. He was not insane!

Eyes flashing, he growled and thrashed hoping to land a kick on the cursed detective. L struggled to hold on to Raito's legs for a while before giving a frustrated growl of his own and pulled the legs forward. With Raito's body prone and even more vulnerable, L straddled his knees and covered his mouth.

“Don’t think that this will ever be over until I have every notebook confiscated and destroyed and Kira is wiped off this world completely!” His voice was uncharacteristically coarse with anger. “Don’t think, Raito that I will ever leave you alone until you have told me everything I want to know! I’ll break you if I have to…” he whispered.

At that Raito burst into a fit of muffled giggles. So much for “love”.

L glared at him before getting off and stepping back. “I see I’m getting no where with these methods. I didn’t want to revert to more persuading tactics, but Raito-kun leaves me no choice. I’ll return later with Misa, and if you don’t convince her to loosen her tongue…you’re intelligent enough to figure it out.”

Raito laughed bitterly. “Heh, and here I thought you loved me, L.”

The detective’s face betrayed nothing, but it was that indifferent exterior that conveyed his distress. “And I do.” He admitted as if he were stating a common fact. “But that won’t stop me. That’s how it is.” Black eyes so cold they reflected not a single speck of light bore into Raito’s; opaque with a ruthless nature. “I have our entire life spans to force your tongue loose. How long do you think you will last,” he smiled calmly. “Kira?”

A bilious fear of the promised impending torture and humiliation incited an incredibly powerful animosity towards the detective. Raito hated feeling scared because it rendered his abilities and made him weak. And weakness caused him to go mad with rage.

“I’LL KILL YOU! I ‘LL KILL YOU!” Raito screeched and thrashed to get that jacket off him with force.

He was God, and even the average mind had been proven to perform miracles when in desperate need. He would rip these restraints and then L’s throat would follow their fate.

“I’LL DIE BEFORE I EVER TELL YOU ANYTHING!” He laughed harshly, his face turning red with the exertion. “I’ll...I’ll” He gasped between his tittering fits. ”I’ll let you die...without ever knowing...without knowing why it happened...isn’t that...hehehe...what worries you?”

L’s face was stoic but he could not keep the slight trace of pity in his eyes. He turned on his heels and exited with Raito’s incessant laughter following him.

Soon after, a male nurse with a guard hurried in with a 7.5 mg injection of aripiprazole to tranquilize him.

There was no God other than Kira. That’s how it is, L.

Religion and Government were the greatest crimes of all and Raito would rip them to shreds. A new Authority would rule the minds of men - Kira. This was not insanity, it was genius - no, merely common sense. The state and police feared him for the same purpose as criminals did – for the same reason L feared him. Kira would take all their control away, and so they used the media to make Kira the villain in the eyes of the ignorant masses.

But they would fail.

Raito chuckled to himself as he felt the sharp prickle of the needle against his neck followed by the familiar dull ache of the anti-psychotic entering his veins. Immediately he felt sleepy, his body relaxed and his skull felt light.

He had all the time in the world now. He was not being pursued; he was not on borrowed time, or on a race against a rival genius. All he had to do now was sit and think. Even the drugs they used to sedate him wouldn't stop his extraordinary mind from turning its wheels, nor would these restraints curtail his determination to better this rotting world. Kira's will was absolute, and it would be integrated into the thoughts of every human. It was possible and he would succeed no matter what.

(Three months past)

Raito kept thinking, I can’t believe I’m doing this, but more than that, I can’t believe I don’t mind in the least.

He would have never let anyone, man or woman, dominate him in this manner. He never really felt any sexual attraction to anyone, and preferred releasing his tension by masturbating instead of getting close to anyone. Because sex usually involved some form of emotional attachment – even one night stands. He had to deal with an individual unnecessarily.

But he found that he did not feel the least bit dominated or uncomfortable with L inside him, rocking their hips together, or wrapping his arms around him. Within the gentle embrace of the frenzied man, it felt like L was the one submitting - worshipping his enemy - and this made Raito grin lazily up at him while crying softly in pleasure. L groaned as if that naughty smile enhanced his excitement.

“L…” He dragged the detective’s alias in a lusty moan. “Faster…”

L slammed in harder but kept his pace; making circular motions at intervals that made Raito throw his head from side to side and scream louder.

Raito bit his lip. He sounded like some wanton woman but it was too much to keep his voice from escaping from the powerful new sensations coursing through his blazing body. He knew the sounds also made L go mad with want, so he determined that where he lost control over his own vocal cords he gained more control over the older man. Interesting, he thought, and admittedly, incredibly sexy.

There was a sudden pause, barely detectible in L’s pattern, but Raito felt it acutely. Peering up at the older man he noticed L’s eyes were staring at something above Raito to the right with a troubled look. Raito threw his head back to see what had caught L’s attention more than having Yagami Raito beneath him in the throws of passion, and gasped in surprise when he saw the upside-down form of Rem staring at them.

In the dark gray room, the shinigami was a white glowing specter all the more ghastly when flashes of lightning illumined her skeletal form as if she represented death itself watching over them. For some reason a feeling of cold dread pooled in Raito’s morrow sending shivers up his spine. Underscoring the smell of their lovemaking lay the stench of death.

His shock swiftly transformed into anger. “What the hell?”

L stopped completely, unable to pretend that nothing was amiss (pervert, Raito thought) and glared at Rem. “I didn’t know shinigami were into voyeurism.” His voice was husky but the sharp tone of agitation was clear.

Rem ignored the sarcasm and glared down at the younger male.“I know what your plan is, Yagami Raito. I figured it out.”

L frowned and Raito suddenly found it most difficult to breath. The detective was still inside him but neither of the men gave any inclination to move – L with compelling curiosity and gradually growing suspicion, and Raito with a paralyzing terror.

“The task force has been calling your cell. L, it appears you request was approved.”

What?

“However, there are a few things I must tell you.”

No!

“Yagami Raito has planned all this from the very beginning.”

L turned his saucer eyes sharply to the boy underneath him.

“I know,” continued that cursed creature, “Despite the position of the other members in this case that you still suspect Misa – it is why you are going to test the thirteen day rule.”

Shut up, you stupid shinigami! What do you think you are doing? Misa will…oh shit…

Rem planned to confess in order to save both Misa and herself. Raito was the one being sacrificed for Misa.

How could I have been so stupid!

The shingami pierced her yellow cat-slit eyes on Raito; they glowed with disdain against the dull light engulfing the room. “Yagami, I will not play into your hands. You had planned to compromise Misa’s safety so that I would be manipulated into killing L in order to save her.”

L’s eyes bulged and time seemed to stop all together.

Damn it! Rem, you bitch!

“…I see.” was all L said. Slowly he turned his head down to look at Raito, emotion all gone save for a calm rage that made his eyes all the more disturbing. “Yagami Raito, you are under arrest.” His voice was strained as if holding back the pain that threatened bare his heart.

Raito could not move for a moment before the panic sank in and he made a swift movement to get from under L, but the detective slammed himself on top of Raito and with lightning speed he grabbed hold of the boy’s wrists and pinned them next to his unruly head. Raito struggled but his kicks were fruitless with L between his legs and his manhood still lodged in his ass; neither could he shake off the man’s iron grip.

“Damn you, Ryuuzaki! Let me go!”

“Now why would I do that, Kira?” he hissed venomously.

L switched his grip to one hand, and though this could have been an opportunity to dislodge him, Raito was deprived of momentum because the bastard was pinning his lower body with his dick.

Raito heard a “clink” and knew L had cuffed him to the bed with the same chain that had linked them. Soon after, the detective pulled out, and strangely enough he was still hard.

“Getting off on this are you, you sick fuck!”

“Childish and temperamental; this is Kira when he doesn’t get his way.” L’s voice was much too devoid of emotion, and that is how Raito knew he was hiding his disappointment.

L turned back to Rem. “So, you would kill me if I convict Misa?”

“Correct.”

“And Raito knew this?”

“Yes.”

“I see. We have much to talk about Shinigami-san.”

Fully clothed downstairs, L sat by the mainframe computer and Raito stood seething in the center with his arms handcuffed behind him and Watari and his father flanking him.

“There must be a mistake! Ryuuzaki, how do we know the creature isn’t lying?” pleaded the teenager's father.

L felt genuine regret and sympathy for the elder Yagami, as he too wished that this was all a lie. A whimsical wish and detrimental if indulged. “Why would Shinigami-san lie?” he challenged coldly.

Soichiro made to speak but L cut him off. “Regardless we are about to test the thirteen day rule. Raito will be locked in a cell upstairs for thirteen days. Watari make sure you confiscate any personal items.”

With a nod, the elderly man began to search Raito’s pockets. The boy had only a black jumper and tan slacks so it was not too difficult. Watari removed his wet and useless cellphone before feeling down his arms until he came to his watch. Raito flinched slightly.

Taking it off, he brought both objects to L. “These are all his possessions. He’s clean.”

L nodded and pocketed the items. “Take him upstairs.”

Raito gave L a final glare full of every ounce of hate he felt for the detective, before Watari led him away with the entire task force goggling at their retreating backs in disbelief. Soichiro looked like he was holding back tears. He strode to a corner facing the wall, head in his hands.

L felt murderous. He had suspected that Kira’s final move was in play for the last few days. Everything after Higuchi died had been quiet save for the uninterrupted killings; as if Kira had made a joke out of him the entire time he had investigated Yotsuba and the corporate Kira's heart attack was the punch line.

In any case, there was no stopping him from testing that rule, and if Misa was indeed the one that resumed killing criminals then there would be no doubt in his mind that Raito was the first Kira. Rem's accusation alone was not enough to convict Raito - especially since her verdict would be useless in court being a shinigami. But he trusted Rem's words well enough and took the measures necessary to protect himself. L supposed he was not surprised – yet, for some mysterious reason he boiled with rage. Perhaps the cause lay in how well Raito had breached his defenses by that sweet and sensual submission. For just a moment L had strongly believed he may have been wrong about Raito.

Kira would never spread his legs for his enemy.

Then Rem came. L never got to finish his consummation, which as absurd and imbecilic as it was, only added to his frustration. L had been attracted to the youth for quite some time, and though afraid to even make the slightest innuendo towards him in case the boy was homophobic (which he had assessed there to have been a thirty percent chance of being the case) he had used Misa as a conduit to send provocative insinuations at Raito.

He got what he wanted, and now he sat fuming, indignant, humiliated, fooled, and utterly disappointed that the subject of his wet dreams had almost tore down his standpoint on Kira. The worst was that not only had L been correct about all his deductions, but Raito had planned every move months ago, before he lost his memories. That said, L had been played like a pawn by Kira and for the first time in his life had come a hair’s width close to losing to his opponent. It didn't help his mood that the only reason he was still alive was because of Kira's own mistake of keeping L away from the task force during a crucial moment in the case.

How the hell did this kid predict the future so well? He obviously knows himself very well. Raito was genuinely honorable without the corruption of the death note and Raito knew that his honest act to disagree with Kira would dissuade me. It almost worked. This also means that Raito is fully aware of the change in him caused by the death note's power….does this mean Raito thinks his former self to have been naïve? How sad…

L was truly depressed; more so because there was a desire for the old Raito which underscored his hate for Kira. The Kira that tainted a brilliant youth with a promising future; the Kira that had outsmarted L. The Kira that fated him to meet Yagami Raito, ultimately cursing him to succumb to the gravity of passion that caused the greatest of men to fall from their pedestals.

Damn you, Kira.

(present)

In a drugged haze, Raito stared at the white ceiling of the sterile room as he lay strapped on a bed. His eyes were heavy-lidded and mouth slack open. He felt tired but was unable to sleep. His feverish body trembled and his stomach churned. These drugs made him feel like shit.

He vaguely heard the door open and footsteps nearing his bed. Turning his blurry sight towards the intruder he glared at the silhouette of a tall blonde man in a white coat.

“Hello, Kira-sama,” he said in a heavily-accented Japanese. His voice was oily and sickly sweet with false kindness. Raito felt a rough palm caress his cheek and immediately abhorred this man. “I’m Doctor Robert Kai.” The man chuckled and knelt down so they stared at each other eye to eye, though it had been a useless gesture since Raito’s eyes refused to focus. He could make out icy blue eyes on a round face.

“I must thank you, Kira-sama. I don’t think I have ever come across such an exquisite case of malignant narcissism. You took it to a level above a mere experimental diagnostic category and together I believe we will make your condition an official mental disorder. How does that sound?”

Raito abhorred this man. His unctuous tenor, the phony altruism in his voice, and that filthy hand on his skin.

A/N I’m already a slow writer, but because I’ve been away for little more than two weeks, I thought to update at least a short chapter to keep things rolling. The next one won’t come after I have updated One Last Chance, another L/Raito story in progress which has been neglected long enough.

Important! I have no beta reader so I have found quite a number of mistakes on the previous chapter (albeit nearly undetectible). The spell-check on Micro-Word and my own rereading of the drafts is not enough. I happen to reread my own works like five times before posting and still I find errors. Mostly homonyms – tricky thing. It's driving me crazy, so anyone with skill at editing, if you are interested I'd like some help!

Hope you guys like this one. It’ll be a very long fic so hold on to your butt cheeks and REVIEW!! XD
