This was written for honda's First Love challenge on HPFC. I had to include the prompt 'People don't marry their first love.'
In case it's a bit obscure at first, this is about Teddy & Victoire. They aren't together anymore, they both moved on and married someone else. And Teddy doesn't really love her anymore, he just loves the memory of his first love.
To honda, for inspiring me!
People don’t marry
Their first love ; alas, real
Life is no fairy
Tale, knows no ideal.
-
He loved Her all the while
Loves Her still at present
Tense, loves her hair, her scent
Her lips, her Golden Smile.
-
But his love for Her is different now
Distant, heartbreaking like stranded ships
Which forgot their naïve, childish vow.
Today, he kisses another’s lips.
-
He no longer wonders what her name means
Victoire is the best of all life’s scenes
Victoire is feelings fading into gray
As years pass by, your regrets are kept at bay
-
Victoire is a bittersweet recollection
Which he will always treasure, an eternal scar
Which doesn’t hurt, an image of perfection…
Victory’s finding happiness without Victoire
-
Even the truest hearts change with seasons
People don’t marry the first love they won
First love means first loss, and needs no reasons
They chose different paths, and life goes on
This sounded much less confusing in my head! Please tell me if you understood something to this, and if you enjoyed it. And if you did, you'd most likely want to read my collection of poems, Hidden Shadows.
