As I lay on the forest floor, looking up at the trees surrounding me, the dark, gloomy gray sky above me, I knew that I didn’t want to die. Not now.

Even though this pain was unbearable, even though I was far from home and in the middle of nowhere, with no chance of being saved.

The wolf had come out of nowhere; if it was a wolf. It was so big, so strong. It came from behind, and got my leg.

I was yelling in pain as the thing shook its head roughly, breaking more than a few bones on my leg, and that’s when I heard the howls. More came from out of nowhere, growling, snarling, biting the thin air. The wolf that was at my leg had then decided to move to my stomach, despite the continuing howls and snarls from his pack.

That’s when I lost most of the feeling in my body; the only thing I felt was pain. Pain and weakness; no way out. I just closed my eyes, knowing that this wasn’t going to be slow.

I was so confused. I didn’t threaten any puppies, did I? Did I stumble upon a hunt for a deer? Did I even look like a frail foe to them? For a girl my age, I was average. Fair height of five feet and a half, and not too much skin, though I did need some work on my legs.

I heard another growl, a tug on my skin, and then a yelp. They were now fighting, and I was feeling so faint.

Just as soon as they had come, they left. I heard a struggle between them, too afraid to look, and then I heard nothing.

So now, here I am, lying in pain, trying to get the image of what my intestines looked like, splayed across my chest, not inside my body. I was feeling fainter by the second. I began to try to call out. “Help. Help.”

Something loomed above me and I screamed before I could see what it was. An ice-cold hand came over my mouth to stifle my screaming, and I stopped, getting a first look at the guy. His hair was a golden red orange, his skin was a perfect pale, soft tone, and his eyes…. His eyes were a pure black. I couldn’t see any color.

“How… how…”

“Save me.” I croaked out, tears streaming down my face. Tears of pain, as well as happiness that someone had found me.

“I am, I am. Just… just…” the boy growled, and then he was gone in a second. I turned my head to my right to see him a couple feet away, his head in his hands.

“Edward?” I heard another voice say aloud, and I turned my head the other way to find a girl come through the trees. “What is it? You left, saying something about-” she stopped mid sentence, seeing me. She covered her mouth, her eyes wide.

“Bella, we need to save her.” Edward said aloud. I heard something come from the girl’s mouth, but I couldn’t decipher it. Edward seemed to hear her fine though, he nodded, and began to unbutton his shirt.

“So faint…” I murmured, and decided to close my eyes.

Something touched me; my insides, and then I felt wind flying through my face and my hair.

“Super Edward.” I heard the girl yell aloud over the wind.

“Just hold on tight, I need to hold her.” He replied.

I opened my eyes, and it was too blurry, but I could hear murmurs and yells, and beeping. Was I in a hospital?

“Not a hospital exactly, but you are being taken care of.” I heard Edward’s voice through the bustle.

“I just patched up your stomach and your leg. You’ve lost an extreme amount of blood.” A heavier voice said, and I saw a flash of bright blonde hair. “Jasper, get out of here. You need to stay away.”

“I can do it now, I’m strong enough.”

So many voices, I closed my eyes again, and tried to take a deep breath, but I felt more pain, and tried to cough, but something came up from my throat. I knew it was blood from the thickness and warmness of it.

“Alrighty, I think I’ll go now.” I heard the same voice say. I heard a deep and beautiful chuckle. That must be Edward.

“I’m right here.” I felt my hand being held by the same cold hand that stifled my scream, and I tried to relax, but the pain was too much.

“I’m dying, aren’t I?” I whispered.

“No. No.” the girl from the forest said, Bella. Her voice was so soft, but extremely shaky. “Carlisle?”

“Not right now.” I heard the deep voice say timidly. I felt a pinch in my arm.

“Ow.”

“Carlisle.” Edward said uncertainly.

“If you want to save her so much, why don’t you do it?” he replied.

“Because I’m still not strong enough. You and Esme are the only ones, and she obviously wont do it.”

“What about Rosalie?”

“No, absolutely not, not me. Not in a million years. Seriously.” I heard yet another voice say. My head was spinning, the voices were getting softer, and everything went black.

Something was touching my neck, my right side. It felt so sharp, and then I felt something tear into my neck, and begin to suck. My eyes flew open to find that the blonde man was sucking my blood. Like a vampire. I screamed, and he stepped back, not affected by the pitch, and went to stand near a beautiful woman. More beautiful people were behind them. They were all looking at me. I recognized Edward, and the girl from the forest, but the other faces were new; they had extremely beautiful and striking figures.

Then a new pain seared through my entire body, and I began to scream like no other.

Fire, needles, skin-burning acid, blades, anything you can imagine to inflict the worse kind of pain was happening to my whole body right now.

“Make it stop! Please!”

“I can’t.” I heard the blonde man say.

Something went into my mouth. A towel. Being gagged, what a joy. I still screamed though. My throat hurt, my body was still being tortured, but I still screamed.

The ‘vampire’ drugged me as much as he could, but nothing seemed to work. Edward tried to talk to me, and so did Bella, but nothing worked. For days, I was in pure and complete pain that I would rather die than ever feel again. I stopped screaming by the third day. I had moved down to whimpering.

I was alone with Edward, and he was holding my hand as he wiped sweat from my forehead.

“What’s happening?” I choked out.

“Try not to talk.” He said. “Just think about something else, other than pain.”

I tried to do what he told, and it seemed to work. I thought about what I was doing before the wolves had come.

I was running away. My sister failed an attempted suicide, by twin brother Tom (and best friend) was in rehab for overdosing and meth, and my parents had too much time on their hands to see that I had dropped out of school and had a job at a post office. I was getting sick of it, so I visited Tom, said my goodbye’s, and left without a note to the parentals. I took mom’s wallet and the emergency money along with my earned salary with me, and just left. I thought the backcountry would be a safer bet from being found by the police if anybody noticed that I was gone. Obviously lost that bet.

Edward squeezed my hand.

“When will it be over?”

“Soon.”
