Kiss of Eternity
Edward swept me up off my feet into his rock solid arms. I pressed against his marble chest taking in his sweet artic temperature. I looked up at him breathing in deep his glorious scent I yet to put a name to. His smoldering topaz eyes fell on me, a slight smile on his lips but it didn’t touch his eyes. I could only imagine what he was thinking. This was the last thing he wanted to do but he promised he would after we got married. I hadn’t mentioned my desire for a month after the wedding. I didn’t want to seem too anxious about the whole ordeal so I waited.
“Go ahead and ask him already.” Alice had said watching me eat a bowl of cereal this morning. “He’s going to say yes anyways.” She grinned.
I tried my best to conceal my excitement throughout the day as Edward treated me to a movie and bought the popcorn and whatnot. I was glad he couldn’t read my thoughts or he’d be driven mad how many times I turned the question around in my head trying to find the right way to ask it. Then I did on our way back to his house.
“Edward…” I said into the silent car. He rose his eyebrows to let me know he was listening. “I’m ready.”
That’s all I had to say. With great reluctance, he nodded and grabbed my hand. I waited for him to protest or try to change my mind like he had done many times over, but he didn’t say anything else. Alice was right. Tonight would be the night.
“Are you okay?” The vibration of his chest was soothing. It calmed down the jitters that had formed in the pit of my stomach. I nodded forcing on a smile.
“I’m better then okay. You’re finally giving me what I want. Well one thing anyways.” I blushed while he cocked an eyebrow obviously forgetting what I tried to force him into a few months back.
When we got to his room, he laid me on the bed, my bed, and sat on the edge. Anxiety shot through me like lightening. It was getting closer and my mind now decided to realize it. My hand was trembling as I reached out to touch his broad shoulder. “I’m ready.” I said shakily.
He grabbed my hand and I gasped at how cold his touch was. I wondered if he would still feel this frozen when I was like him. “I know,” he smiled kissing my fingertips. “But I don’t think I am.”
In a heartbeat he was over me pinning my wrist above my head. His eyes were bright, the brightest I had ever seen shinning honeysuckle and warm in their sockets. He wasn’t hungry so there was no fear that he wouldn’t be able to resists me.
“You’re not going to hurt me.” I reassured him. “I have faith in you.”
“You have too much faith in me.” He said lightly. “What if I can’t control myself?” Lowering his head, his nose graved across mine, his lips inches from mine. I titled my head to kiss him but he moved running his lips along my jaw line to my neck where he took in a deep breath. “Mmm,” he moaned into my throat. “You smell amazing.”
It took me a second before I found my voice. “Don’t I always?”
“Of course.” He whispered kissing up to the side of my face. “I’m going to miss how good you smell after this.”
“Is that all that attracts you to me?” I asked jokingly.
He chuckled. “No, that’s not all.” My heart leapt to my throat at the look of gentle hunger that washed over his calm expression. I didn’t know if that hunger was for my blood or for my body. “Are you sure you want to do this?” He asked.
I nodded, nervousness pulsing in my veins. “Yes,” It was so soft I didn’t even hear it but I knew he did. “I want to be with you for eternity.”
A flick of excitement flashed in his eyes as he brought his head to me neck. He rubbed his lips and nose over my skin breathing in my scent for the last time. My heart pounded, the blood beat like gongs in my ears. I felt his mouth open near my collarbone and I sucked in a sharp breath.
“Bella,” He groaned into my neck. “Don’t forget to breath.”
I let the air out of my lungs burning for more oxygen. “I forgot. I can’t do that until I’m like you.”
He giggled and kissed my lips tenderly. “Silly Bella.”
Again he searched my throat and stopped at the spot just above my collarbone. He hesitated. “Go,” I mumbled and he opened his mouth.
At the bite I gasped but kept breathing. His teeth were like a thousand tiny needles poking me all at the same time. I felt him suck in a few times and moan at the taste then he stopped and pulled away licking his lips before I could see the blood on them.
I searched his face, he was slightly panicked but it was well hidden behind the crimsons ecstasy that coated his parched throat. A second ticked by and I waited for the pain.
“Thank you.” I said wishing I could touch him but he still held my wrists.
“I love you.” He said.
I grinned. “I love you-“
The pain erupted making my eyes bulged from their sockets. The fire, that same fire, I experienced sprouted up gently then ran to a blazing thunder from my chin to my chest. I gritted my teeth as it continued, like acid being poured over my body eating away my flesh little by little. I squirmed under Edward clenching every muscle in my body so that it ached with the same fervor as the venom snaking slowly through my veins.
I tried to hold back my scream but the pain was excruciating. I needed and outlet. “Ed-Edward.” I struggled through my teeth. Tears welded in my eyes and I blinked to let them fall down the sides of my face in a stinging waterfall that only aided the horrible sensation running through me.
“Edward!” I screamed so loud it should’ve shattered the windows.
“It’s okay Bella, I’m here.” He said pained. I knew he was beating himself up over what he had done. He promised he would never hurt me and here he was causing me the most agonizing pain known to human and myth at the work of his own hand.
Another pair of hands was on me cupping my face. The touch cooled down the burning a bit but the true scorch was under the surface, unreachable. “Calm down, Bella, it’ll be over soon.” It was Alice.
“Alice…Alice…”
“Shh, Bella. Try not to speak.” She urged.
“Jasper,” It was Carlisle this time. “See what you can do.” He demanded.
“It hurts.” I cried. My back arched as the acid slithered down into my stomach twisting it into a thousand tight knots that started to snap under the pressure but no relief came.
“I know, Bella, I know.” Carlisle soothed. “Jasper.”
The fear and anxiety started to fade away only to intensify the ache. I surge of electricity ran down my back like a butcher knife slicing into my spin snapping every nerve that sent a painful stab with each cut. I lolled my head to the side to see Esme holding her hands clasped under her chine, face etched in concern.
Behind her was Emmett trying to hide the fear behind a hard face but it shined through in his hard golden eyes. Rosalie was beside him, brow creased and lips pursed but I could still sense concern on her. She shook her head and left the room.
“Is there anymore you can do?” Growled Edward. I snapped my head to look at him, a sting erupted in my neck and I whimpered.
“I’m trying the best I can.” Snapped Jasper.
“Try harder.” He demanded.
“Edward,” Scolded Alice from behind me.
A grumble formed in Edwards’s chest. “Put her to sleep then.”
The brothers turned to Carlisle for reassurance. “It’s fine, go ahead.” He said calmly. Carlisle was always the most controlled.
A strange pang of fatigue snaked through me. Bit by bit, my limbs went numb then my torso. My lids became heavy as lead and I struggled against it.
“I love you, Edward.”
“I know,” he grinned. “Now sleep my little vampire, sleep.”
I slept for the last time in…eternity.
