Casey paced around her room with the phone still in her hand, shaking her head in disbelief. Noel Covington liked her. It really shocked her. Well now that she thought about it, it shouldn’t have. He’d stayed in the musical and had practiced with her. He’d also accepted her compromise to make the dance moves a little easier too when it had all seemed hopeless to him.
Now Casey felt pathetic. How could she not have realized it before? Correction, before Emily had just told her less than ten minutes ago.
Casey let out a confused sigh. Did she like him? She had just got over her break up with Max and had decided to not date for awhile. Was it really smart to go back on that plan and start to date again? And date Noel?
Emily had been no help. When she’d asked Emily if she should date Noel, Emily had told her to go for it but when she’d reminded Emily that she wanted some time off dating, Emily had told her to do what she thought was best. That didn’t answer Casey’s question though. There was one person who Casey knew she could ask for advice from but that person happened to be making out with her step-brother on the other side of her bedroom wall.
Casey thought it over for less than thirty seconds before walking in to Derek’s room interrupting him and Sally.
“Casey leave” Derek stated while she stood there.
“Um, no Derek, I need to talk to Sally for a minute.”
Derek groaned in annoyance while Sally followed Casey into her room saying “sure what’s up Casey?”
Casey remembered how Sally had given her advice on finding closure with Max and started stating her newly discovered problem.
“Up for giving advice to a sixteen year old who’s having more boy troubles?” Casey sighed. When sally nodded Casey continued, “Well, Emily called to talk to me and she told me that this guy I know likes me. In fact, he liked me when I was still dating Max. The problem is that after hearing that, I think I might like him too.”
Sally gave Casey a sympathetic smile before she reminded her of her newly made dating decision. “I thought you were going to wait a while before you started dating again. It’s only been a week.”
Casey gave Sally a sad smile. “I know that I should just forget it but Noel is such a sweet guy and I think I might like him.” Casey let out a sigh, “I am so confused.”
Sally gave Casey a confident smile, “Casey, you are the only one that can make the decision. Noel sounds nice but do you really want to start dating only a week after you found closure with Max?”
Casey laughed. “Not really. Why does it have to be my decision though?
Sally got up to leave “Because it’s your life.”
Casey sighed. She was still confused but Sally made sense. Why not wait a little while before trying it out with Noel, or anyone for that matter. Casey laughed when she realized that Emily had tried to explain it the same way and she had gotten annoyed. Sally was just open to everyone in that way though. Even Derek . Casey didn’t know why she felt chills suddenly run up and down her spine at the thought of Sally being open with Derek, but she did.
Sally entered Derek’s room. “Hey Derek. Who’s Noel?” Sally asked curiously.
“Um he was in the school musical with Casey.” Derek answered pulling Sally closer to him. Before he covered her mouth with his he added, “I was in that play too, the ever sexy Pirate Pete.” Sally laughed before she was cut off by Derek’s mouth.
Casey got ready for bed hoping to forget about her troubles. She admitted that high school added pressure to date but was that why she wanted to date Noel? That made it seem so shallow and wrong. It couldn’t be the real reason.
Casey sighed, “I wish I could skip the next five years” she said softly. Casey closed her eyes and missed the shooting star that could be seen from the window and had no idea what was in store for her.
