Written as a drabble request for scarlett71177 on Livejournal using the prompts Edward/Bella and rose.
Bella nervously ran her hand through her hair, getting her fingers slightly caught when she brushed against the rose that Alice had pinned into her hair while they had been getting ready. Fortunately all the thorns had been removed prior. No unforeseen cuts had occurred. She had gotten through the ceremony completely unscathed.
Now she was married and standing mere steps away from her husband. In between them was the bed; their bed, and right now both the distance between them and the obstacle in the middle were a little bit overwhelming. As much as she wanted what was supposed to happen next, she was scared and both of them in the room knew it. She could feel it and she knew he could smell it. Bella's eyes crossed the gap between them and found Edward's eyes looking softly back at her. Bella had never seen him so dishevelled and uncertain of himself before. His tie had been loosened around his neck, top buttons undone of his shirt which was becoming more wrinkled as time passed. He was holding himself strangely, as if he were attempting to stand smaller than he really was, and immensely still. His beautiful hands loose to his sides, palms forward.
It hit Bella what he was trying to do.
Edward was trying to make himself look less threatening. Trying to make himself less dangerous so that she wouldn't be so frightened of him. The frustrated laugh bubbled out of her throat before she knew it was coming and Edward's expression shifted slightly into one of bewilderment.
"You never learn, do you?"
Edward's head tilted to the side, absorbing her words but not moving any closer. His eyes darted between the bed and back to Bella's face.
"I'm not afraid of you. I'm nervous about what comes next."
Edward's sharp intake of breath was the loudest sound he had made since they had come to their standstill. Bella saw his eyes drop to the floor and she could barely hear his words, but the message comes across crystal clear, "It's rather the same thing, isn't it?"
Her tone softened, "Edward, look at me. Please?" Edward's eyes re-met hers shamefully, "I'm not scared of having sex with a vampire. I'm terrified about making love for the first time with my husband." Bella felt the blood pool into her cheeks at her confession but from the relief that crossed Edwards face proved that she had said the right words.
Edward crossed the gap between them swiftly and Bella found herself suddenly sitting next to him on the bed, legs dangling towards the floor, golden comforter beneath them. Edward raised his hand slowly and plucked the rose from her curls and softly ran it down the side of her flushed cheek, making her tingle all the way down to her toes. He leant forward and grazed her cheek with his cool lips, turning her tingling sensation into a full body shudder at the contact. He rested his forehead against her temple as he took in the scent of her skin, hair and blood and Bella could feel the smile build on his face. "You are a remarkable girl, Bella Swan."
Bella turned her face to meet his and their lips touched briefly and she could feel him relax. This was the moment they had been waiting for and it was perfect. She pulled back slightly, which was met by a small groan from Edward, and put her hands on his shoulders and looked into his eyes.
"Cullen, Edward. It's Bella Cullen now."
