Sleight of Hand

The Eighth Doctor, though still recovering his memory, senses the Master's disturbance within the TARDIS, and works a hard bit of misdirection that outrages Dr. Who fans for years to come. Oneshot, almost a drabble.

The Doctor danced, happy in his new life.
He heard a cry in his head. TARDIS!
"This is the Eye of Harmony," he heard.
He sighed inwardly, and knew what he had to do.
Misdirection, always a joker's game.
And yet, who was the greatest joker of all?
He concentrated. Cells momentarily shuddered.
He opened his eyes, grinned at Grace. Seized her hands and hand, rehabilitating his sadly ruptured memory. Blasted regenerations!
He heard in his head, "The Doctor is half-Human!"
There it was. Success! There may be consequences.
"He knows where I am!" The Doctor slammed his eyes shut.
"Grace? GRACE?!"
