Chapter 1: Play Ground
“I don’t understand! I raised her right. She’s never done something like this before!”
‘Lies...you knew this would happen.’
“My baby is not a murderer!” balled the tall, skinny, bleached blond women. Her bright blue eyes were red and puffy and so was her nose. She blew into her fancy hanky and looked up at the women in the white doctor’s coat who was looking over a chart
. “Mrs. Jackson, I suggest you leave her here for us to take care of. She needs help.” The women known as the girl mother looked up with a shocked look. “Help?! Why!? She’s not crazy! My Ruin is NOT a killer!” The blond protested.
“She was found standing over the victims with the murder weapon.” The doctor stated dully as if she’s been through this over a hundred times. Flashes of blood and screaming raced through Ruins mind. “I know its hard to handle but this is for the best.” Her classmates fell around her feet while making gurgling sounds as they choked on their own blood. Her mother sighed and looked at her daughter. The teen stared down at the ground with a glazed look in her eyes. She was quite, and wasn’t protesting against the idea unlike her mother at all.
Her long raven hair covered most of her face as she hunched forward. “We can help her more then you know, Mrs. Jackson.” The two women then walked out of the room leaving Ruin and a large man standing next to the door alone.
Ruin slowly looked up at the man and he raised a eye brow at her. “What are you looking at psycho?” He grunted making Ruin giggle a bit. For someone that works with mentally unstable people you would figure he would know better then to call someone names, such as ‘psycho’.
That was two years ago to this day. Ruin could still remember it so clearly too. She eventually stopped talking to most adults. After that her mom stopped coming for visits, Ruin didn’t really notice. She made friends with a old man named Nickels, who didn’t seem to talk much except to her.
The small clicking sounds echoed off her slippers as she made her way down the hall. She had a bright smile on her pale face and she looked up over her shoulder at the buff man that walked her every where she went. He hardly talked to her except to warn her if she did something wrong or to scold her on wondering off when she was suppose to be in one place. The man?...His name was Jason. It took forever to convince him to tell her. Ruin shared the same feelings for him. He was no fun, boring.
He stopped in front of the doors that led outside to the ‘play ground’, as she called it, where the patients got to walk around and get some air. Ruin took this time to talk with Mister Nickels. He told her exciting stories about his dreams and things of his past. He was a vary interesting man in Ruin’s eyes. Apparently he was here because of random fits of anger.
Ruin made her way over to the man sitting in a wheel chair. A dark green checkered blanket was draped over his lap. “...Hi Mr. Nickels.” She said softy and sat down in front of him. He slowly glanced down at her and let off a dry smile. “Ah, Ruin, you’re back to see me again...”
Ruin simply nodded with a sheepish smile. Her Dead looking gray eyes stared up at him. Her eyes scared everyone, sometimes even Mr. Nickels, but he would never tell her that. It would break the girls heart.
He was so nice to her unlike other patient. There were a lot of them that would call her worse names then ‘psycho’. She’s even been called a Devil child. She was called names in different languages that she didn’t understand.
“Mister Nickels, you were telling me a story of when you were a boy. Do you remember?” The old man nodded and scratched as his dark cheek. “Yes, Yes, Would you like me to continue?” Ruin nodded excitedly as Nickels continued telling his story. He wasn’t sure himself if what he remembered was the truth but it was the closest thing to it. Right in the middle of his story he stopped and stared somewhere behind Ruins head. His eyes became wide and he paused with his mouth a gap. Ruin raised a eye brow and glanced over her shoulder but saw nothing. When she turned back to the old man he had a scowl on his face. His eyes glared hard at her and he began to yell. Ruin didn’t understand what he was saying...it sounded like German. He held his fist up into the air and started to shake it at her then swung. Ruin fell back holding her cheek. Nickels continued to scream at the top of his lounges as two male nurses came out and tried to calm him down. He just turned his sudden anger on them as he went to punch one. They held him down and stuck a needle into his arm and then pushed him off back inside.
That’s what Nickels’s bursts of anger were like. He would stare at something that wasn’t there in complete horror and then start yelling at the first person he sees. It saddened Ruin sometimes when he would do that. He’s hit her a few times before but she forgave him. It wasn’t his fault after all.
Ruin sat quietly for the rest of her time outside. When Jason came out to fetch her she didn’t get up right away. “Your friend won’t be coming outside anytime soon.” He grinned and watched Ruin look up at him sadly. She got up from her spot and allowed Jason to guide her back to her room. It was small with a bed and a window with bars. The walls were a annoying bright white color.
As soon as she got to her room she plopped down on the bed and wiggled her way under the sheets. “...poor Mister Nickels.” She mumbled as she eye lids slowly dropped and she drifted off to sleep.
